A visit to Strawberry Field in Liverpool, made famous by The Beatles and now a visitor centre and museum about the site's fascinating history as well as the history of The Salvation Army (who owned the original house and the current museum) and John Lennon, including a very famous piece of musical Memorabilia. Also, a look at the fab fours' childhood homes, which in the end involved a 12 mile walk (although it wasn't supposed to be 12 miles!).

A quick wander around the centre of Bournville, famous for the Cadbury factory and of course Cadbury World which is still a major tourist attraction. This suburb of Birmingham has slightly unusual origins and despite the city that has grown around it over the years, still almost feels like it could be a far flung village in the middle of nowhere. #bournville #cadbury #birmingham #walking #uk #e...

Abbey Road, London - A Dangerous Place For Tourists?

A visit to the legendary Abbey Road Studios in North London, and the infamous zebra crossing outside as seen in The Beatles Abbey Road album cover. Thankfully the studios survived an attempt to sell it off and turn it int...
Barbican Estate, London - Is it more than just a brutalist concrete jungle?
Просмотров 219Год назад
A visit to the Barbican estate in London, a unique and some would say brutal looking estate. Not built as typical social housing and very much a post world war two experiment. Was it successful? It's certainly not a cheap place to live. As well as the concrete, there is a surprising amount of history still to be found. A bit of further reading on how the estate came to be built can be found her...

    Hi, this was very helpful. As a big Beatle fan, I had never actually seen their childhood homes, so thanks for this.

    I live nearby and have walked the ridge many times. Your route was not one I've tried 😂 although parts of it are on variations I've taken. A better route is to drive up past Hergest Croft (which is well signposted) and park at the top of the lane. There's plenty of room and it's free. From there just walk up the rest of the lane and through the gate. Continue uphill on the clear track until you cross the old racetrack and reach the monkey puzzle trees at the summit. Better luck next time 😊

    was the town named after the chip shop?

  • @matthewtrow5698
    @matthewtrow5698 5 месяцев назад

    It does sadden me that the recording studio is no longer active - the fact that Radiohead recorded Pablo Honey where I now live is amazing. Keith Moon used to own The Crown and Cushion Hotel and Alex James of Blur fame is now Alex of Cheese fame. He lives just down the road in Kingham, which falls under Chipping Norton. Other than that, Chippy as we call it is a really nice town that could do with some more music fame! I liked your little intro to the town - "It becomes a market" is quite a strong term. Every Wednesday we have a scattering of stalls - vegetables, baskets, t-shirts with howling wolves/moon motifs, sometimes a fish van. The chip shop? - sadly it's awful. Ok, that's a bit mean, it's about as bad as the majority of chip shops that have no passion for what they do. You can get some greasy chips, oily sausages, battered fish with more batter than fish, eat it and not suffer too much the next day. Just like Radiohead almost certainly did - I like to believe the entire band waited inside the Chippy for their takeout, but I suspect the recording studio would've arranged a minion to do the waiting.

      Thanks it's good to hear someone with local knowledge. I'd forgotten about Keith Moon's pub. I remember reading about it years ago in his biography. The stories about that place were legendary!

    I Imagine that Studio had to be Quite Soundproofed with that traffic going by.

    • @goingmobile2514

      It was very high quality, so soundproofing would have been above average. Plus, I think the outer walls were thicker than average due to its age, I'm sure that must have helped.

    Thank you for this video. Chipping Norton looks a lovely place to have a recording studio. So many top Artists in their day & some signature singles recorded there. A good reason I looked at this video is that I've been searching out recording studios lately & it's a shame the studio closed in Chipping Norton; I'd of enjoyed the town & the fish & chips just the same as the experience recording there. Many thanks. Cheers👍

    The white cottage is used by the company who do those hardcore tours down some of the mines,. They have also opened up a "hotel" that you can stay in, basically takes 6 hours having to climb through the mines, stay overnight and another 6 hours back.

    Thanks so much for making the climb for us watching. Yes that's incredibly disappointing. Some people have a go at the Weoley Castle ruins in Birmingham, but at least there there's more than enough stones to see. Unfortunately it's not open to the public as much as it should be but they're worth seeing. This single stone isn't worth the climb, I'd have been devastated to have made the climb to see nothing there on the ground, but oh my, the vuew us fantastic. Give me some ancient rocks and some land rights & I'd happily build my Castle on that hill, moat and drawbridge and everything.

    • @goingmobile2514
      @goingmobile2514 Год назад

      Yes It's a bit underwhelming to say the least, but its worth the climb for the views. It seems that they used keep the castle area a little better and made the effort to cut the weeds and long grass in the summer, but that clearly does not happen anymore.
