    Please forgive me if the answer is obvious, this is my first time using 3D printing for a project. I followed the steps in your video but for some reason my whole model will disappear. Which might sound like it's fixed, no issues, but there is a red part in my model just like it shows on your screen. So before hitting H, if I go into my model I see the red (blue spot was moved to transparent). But when I hit H, the whole model disappears. It also will say it has no geometry data when put into the orca slicer, so I know there's something wrong with the model. Do you know why the red part may be removed too when I hit H?

    • @notverygoodguy
      @notverygoodguy 3 дня назад

      A possible reason might be if the hollow part of the model intersects with the outside so that when you try to select the inside of the model (the red part) is also selects the outside. Then when you press H to hide the vertices, they are all hidden. One thing you could do is to try this in reverse but you won't be able to use the l key to select things. If the model isn't too intricate you could use the circle select option c and then control the size of the selection circle with your mouse scroll wheel and then paint all the outside of your model to select everything you can actually see. Then hide these with h and see what is left. If it looks like it is probably the inside of the model, select everything and delete and unhide the ones you hid before. I hope this works. Let me know.

    • @notverygoodguy
      @notverygoodguy 3 дня назад

      The most likely cause of this kind of thing is if the normals on the model or the cutting tool are wrong. I suggest tuning on Face Orientation in the viewport overlays and checking these first. Let us know how it goes.

      Often when something completely weird like this happens it is because of incorrect normals. Have you turned on face orientation to check you don't have any red faces where you shouldn't? I made a part of my Tree hollow. To save filament and time while printing. I doesnt work with the FDM Printer. It prints like there is no hollow Part. Is there a special Method? • @notverygoodguy
      @notverygoodguy 24 дня назад

      This should work with both FDM and resin printing though of course for the hollowed out part it is a little more difficult to add supports in an FDM printer slicer. I would suggest turning on face orientation and then looking insider and outside your model to make sure the normals are correct. I have a video on what normals are all about on the channel too if you are interested.

Before i hollowed the Tree with boolean tool and a slighter smaller copy from the tree..... ... but with solidify it is easy and works for me. Thanks a lot ... • @notverygoodguy
      @notverygoodguy 25 дней назад

      When you mention a texture are you expecting the texture to remain as a colour texture such that you might use to make skin on a human? This technique uses the texture or even better, a displacement map to adjust the vertices on a mesh in one direction according to to the brightness of the corresponding area in the image file or texture in this case. I have some faces on the hair of my model that have inverted normals but are not selectable. It looks like they're the "underside" of the hair strands and flipping the normals makes the inverted ones on the outside. If you were to imagine the hair as a wig, the inside of the wig is red while the outside is blue. Can I ignore this for printing or will this ruin my print? I cannot figure out how to get 100% blue. The top of the upper eyelashes also are inverted and cant be selected without inverting the entire eyelash top and bottom.

    • @notverygoodguy
      @notverygoodguy 2 месяца назад

      Sounds unlikely that the hair would work but you could always load it into a slicer to see what it makes of it. If only some of the hair faces are inverted and not selectable AND the hair actually has some thickness you might have to start hiding the faces around them to really see what is going on. Sometimes what is poking through and red is not coming from where it looks like they are. If you have a link to your model I'd be interested to see it. Eyelashes and eyebrows are often a problem for 3d printing. I tend to just remove them and create new ones.

    Another way to accomplish this is to select in Edit Mode, go to Mesh > Separate > By Loose Parts. This will give you the inside and outside parts in the Scene Collection tree, select the outside and hide it, then the inside will be visible. Select and delete it and you now have your solid.

    • @notverygoodguy
      @notverygoodguy 2 месяца назад

      This absolutely does work although would be very annoying with models that actually already have a lot of loose parts. That said, it's an option I hadn't thought of so thanks.

    • @RRSF09
      @RRSF09 2 месяца назад

      @@notverygoodguy I've had that experience as well, although I've found that at the bottom set of parts the outer shell is either the first or second listing from the bottom. I just turned visibility on and off, and when I located the outside I just shift+clicked the rest of the parts in the list and deleted them wholesale, leaving just the outside. And thank you for this, it let me figure out how to do it that way - I was having a heck of a time trying to get a solid from an STL so I could print it properly.

    • @notverygoodguy
      @notverygoodguy 2 месяца назад

      @@RRSF09 I will play with this idea a bit and see how it stacks up. It makes more sense than just trying to find the insides. Actually, just selecting the outside from the start is probably better than what I have in this video anyway.

      Can you explain which parts you felt were missed? It is always a balancing act getting the amount of detail right. If you go into too much detail you end up saying the same thing in every video and it turns people off. On the other hand of course you want your video to be helpful to as many people as possible.

    • @notverygoodguy
      @notverygoodguy 2 месяца назад

      That's odd. I just tried it and I got the same result as you. I restarted Blender twice and it works again :/ The correct sequence is ALT-B. A big cross appears. Move the mouse to position the center of the cross to the top left of the part you want to hide. Left click and drag should create a box which you drag over the model and when you release the left mouse button the part covered by that box should disappear leaving you with a cross section. ALT-B to get it back.

    HI! thanks again for your videos! I am brand new to blender and your videos sped my learning time up a lot. I Now am running into issues on the procedural steps of creation. running into errors at the end. attempting a posed bobble head. 1-make a basic shirt. 2- attach to rig with cloth and collisions. 3- sculpting shirt , displace a texture. 4 subdivide. 5 solidify. 6 pose character. 7 smooth and manifold ? does this sound right ? I thought this would work however I continue to get crashes and poor clothing texture and geometry as I get to the end.

      What you are doing sounds reasonable. Which part breaks your model at the end? Is it the make manifold part? If you are starting with something that isn't manifold you are likely to have problems later.
