That fluid is COOKED!
Is monster transmission one of daves businesses? They have an engine building shop too. If so, this is the second video in 2 days showing what kind of work hides behind the case. The other video was a Cummins engine. That’s what you get from one of those big money operations
Hoping somebody had this exact issue and knows the proper fix. 4L60E automatic. 228,000 miles. Tranny shift delays from 1st to 2nd, when at any temp. Will hang in 1st until 2,700 to 3,000 rpm, and shift softly when it eventually upshifts. I can also get it to up-shift by slightly easing up on fuel pedal, at about 2,400 to 2,700 rpms. It will downshift as it should when going up a hill at around 15/20mph, 2nd to 1st. Reverse and 1st always work good, cold or hot. 3rd & 4th work fine. Fluid is exactly Full and clean, when hot/level. No Check Engine Light or any other warnings or issues. Anyone have this same thing? Thanks!
Another junk Monster? All they have that's good is a name. Matt's Offroad Recovery went with a monster for one of their recovery rigs and it lasted only a couple months if I remember correctly. Incredible how they still have a trans business at all.
Are you using the same extremely scratched oil pan after you work on it
Would love to see you rebuild a 62TE
Kind of a neat transmission. Good money maker even under warranty. I've built a bunch of them as a dealer mechanic.
Does this apply to a 1995 Silverado 4L60e? When tranny is cold it will usually hold in 2nd until slightly warmed up and then it'll usually work fine as long as I am not stomping on the fuel pedal. Could this be a failing TPS? Or clogged filter? Fluid looks, smells good and is full. Or solenoids?
Chinese steels but premium cast silver paint!!!
Yeah it’s the little things 😉
excellent content!!
I'm glad you enjoyed the content! There's always more to learn about the 4L60E, so stay tuned for future videos have a Monster AOD up next day or so.
13:00 you need a larger tool box.
Is just my teardown box....
@@TriStarWWPO I study for 2 years and played around with a 99 junkyard unit. I then removed and rebuilt my 96 Tahoe 4x4 stock transmission. It had 285k miles on it. (If you are wondering how I got it to last that long. I change the fluid and filter every 40k miles.) It had lost engine braking and would slip going to 2nd and 3rd at full throttle. The aluminum forward clutch housing was cracked and losing pressure. It worked on the first try but it was leaking fluid from the front seal. Two years later, I rebuilt the engine and found out the tranny was leaking from the pump. I used the 99 case to line up the pump. No more leaks.
Just tap it .. a litttle tap tap taparoo 4:25
LOL
Keepem coming , love the content ❤
I'm glad you're enjoying the content! There’s plenty more to come, so stay tuned! Up nest will be an AOD Monster Trans failure.
Where would the input shaft bearing go in this transmission cause I believe mine is worn.
The one on top of the spacer on input drum ? If so is OEM # is 8642066 can get from many places
@TriStarWWPO would the parts number you gave me be the input shaft bearing
Awesome thanks for sharing
Anytime! Glad you liked it! Let me know if there's anything else you wanna see!
My father was a transmission builder for many years. He owned his own shop since before I was born in 1974. I worked with him for many years. One of my duties was to clean all the transmission parts in the solvent tank. He would always tell me if the parts are not clean enough to eat spaghetti off of them then I don't have them clean enough. I always liked it when the solvent was replaced with new fresh solvent. It was much easier to clean up the parts
Wow, if only spaghetti were the secret ingredient in a perfectly functioning transmission! I guess that means your dad's transmissions were always "pasta-tively" clean!
Can you tell me where did you buy the Bushings driver tool ? If you will please, and thats the name of the tool ?
Are you talking about the black round numbered drivers ? if so its an old Hayden/ now Atec Trans-Tool I believe out of San Antonio, Texas. Not sure if still around. www.signalhire.com/companies/atec-trans-tool-lp Bob is a great guy.
@TriStarWWPO Yes thank you very much for your time and your info 👍🏼👍🏼
🤜🤛🤙
Simply the ONLY way to set a hooley float!! all other methods are stupid/dangerous!!!
Glad you agree that this is the best method!
I don’t understand what you did to properly achieve the clearance. I have the same problem. 1.1. What do I need to change. I’ve had the upper apart 4 times. And nothing is missing.
I ended up using a 0.005" shim under the pump washer and replaced the intermediate shaft spacer/snap ring in the OD section, which was the main issue. In the end, it resolved the problem.
These are the best clutches for this trans?
Yes, these are the best-if you’re comfortable setting tighter gaps for thinner plates. If not, stick to OEM specs in these materials and call it a day.
@@TriStarWWPO0.25-0.30?
When running thinner plates, clearance at .020-.025-like with the Alto Power Pack-is ideal, with .032 as the upper limit. Custom longer anti-drag springs are highly recommended unless it's a race-only build. OEM springs won't cut it; you need the special ones from Alto. Unfortunately, some sellers leave these out of the kit-probably to save costs and secure the sale. Who knows?...
@@TriStarWWPO some good info right there I appreciate any help thank you,the kit your link is to has the longer springs correct
@@YoungerPrice yes I only ship them with the springs
I saw your can of 1st Ayd brake cleaner, they make some good orange gloves. I work in a heavy duty trans shop rebuilding Eaton Fullers and we have good luck out of their gloves, brake cleaner, conditioner pads, and definitely the spray paint, it's rebranded Seymour MRO.
Thanks for sharing your experience! It’s always great to hear about reliable products from professionals in the field.
25 year old clutch packs and solenoids that took at least 30 neutral drops and 100's of burnouts in their life. Next question!
So, the clutch packs and solenoids are basically the transmission’s equivalent of a rock band that's been on tour for 25 years? Quite the legacy!
What's the 2nd thing on the side he pulled out
I removed the output speed sensor first then the second thing would be the input speed sensor...
Is it a good idea to replace with a Vette servo, trans still in vehicle? (255k, no shifting problems, always serviced.)
I’m not a fan of using the cheaper aftermarket vet servos. A better approach would be to remove the valve body, completely disassemble it, and perform a thorough cleaning. This would also allow for inspecting and replacing the forward and reverse abuse plugs, installing an oversized AFL valve, and replacing the valve body spacer plate with a new one. For durability, I recommend using Torlon check balls instead of steel as they will NOT damage the plate as yours more than likely have. Additionally, it’s best to replace the factory plastic 1-2 and forward accumulators with aluminum ones, or, for an even more robust setup, upgrade all accumulators to Sonnax pinless, including the 3-4 accumulator.
Cool thanks for the link!
You're welcome! I'm glad you found it helpful. Let me know if you have any questions about the upgrades!
@TriStarWWPO actually bro I need help, my OEM 2nd gear servo won't come off the servo pin... I don't wanna mess it up since it a vette servo, is thier a trick?

My 94 chevy s10 2.2 has 662,735 miles and still has the original unrebuilt engine and trans ! Just did the 28th trans service last week !
662,735 miles? At this point, your S10 is practically a member of the family! Just make sure it doesn't start asking for a driver's license!
Thanks for the video brother. I enjoy seeing technical videos like these. Nice explanations
Thanks for the love! I’ll keep the tech coming-just don’t blame me if your brain starts overheating from all the info!
When it gets superheated doesn’t that mess with the material hardness of the parts? Or is it just the heat expansion causing things to come out of tolerance? Perhaps both?
Great question! Superheating can definitely affect both the material hardness and the dimensional tolerances of parts. It’s a complex interplay between heat expansion and changes in material properties.
What type of car is that?
1995 camaro
yep says in the title...
🤣
I know right !!!
🥲
yep
Great video and super informative.
I'm glad you found it informative! I always strive to share useful content.
Thanks for the videos. Appreciate your work!
My pleasure!
Just throw all that shit in a bucket.😅
My nose hurts just thinking how bad that fluid smells
Seriously, that smell is no joke!
I have like 20 jars for screws!🤔🤣😂😩🥴
Are you starting a hardware store in your garage?
How do you just throw all your nuts n bolts in one basket and remember where it alll goes 😂
30+ years ......
If I threw all my bolts together like that I'd never finish a project 😅
Lol, I feel you! Gotta keep those bolts in check to finish anything!
got the minner trap as a bolt holder
It's amazing how versatile the minner trap can be!
geez slow down you dont work at nascar there's no need to be speedy and put a customers car parts at risk of damage for working too fast cuz thats when mistakes are made
Thank you for your concern! I understand how it might look fast on video, but I assure you that I've been doing this for years "30+" and prioritize both speed and precision. Working efficiently doesn't mean compromising on quality or safety. Every step I take is careful and deliberate to ensure the best outcome for the customer's vehicle.
This guy could probably do this blindfolded. Calm down.
Yes sir, I'm sure I could... In fact, you know, I should do a complete teardown video blindfolded...
@@12yearssober i could do yo momma blindfolded😆 just messin lol
@@TriStarWWPO That would be awesome!!!
T45 FTW 🎉👍
Thanks for the shoutout to T45!
What type of grease you use? Is it save to be mixed with the transmission fluid? Would be safer if we lube the o-rings with clean transmission oil?
I use Transgel mixed with a mixture of slick 50 & trans fluid. you can use just trans fluid yes or even a little bit of engine oil
Hi guys. This the customer. If you have a finned deep aluminum pan you can add that to my bill. The sheetmetal ones are more prone to leakage anyway.
Sorry we did not and dont check here all the time.
My uncle has a 73 with the amc 304 and the 3 speed. I was thinking about swapping to 4 speed auto or 5 speed manual
That sounds like a cool project! Good luck with the swap.
Used to have a competition in auto-tech class to see who could tear-down and rebuild TH350s and TH400s in the shortest amount of time, while ensuring they ultimately and successfully performed on a test bench. Fun times.
Thanks for sharing your experience, it's awesome to hear about fun times in auto-tech class!
One thing I’ve learned. Leave the transmissions to the experts. Nice video.
I appreciate your support and feedback!
I put in new internal harness n it leaked would i be able take out n due that to it
if it was new it should not be leaking.... if was used "New" to you purchase sure I get that. Regardless yes and do to any harness to seal it up.
Did you end rebuilding it or swap in another transmission?
We did rebuild this unit.
@@TriStarWWPO that’s good! It was pretty messed up
