Foil sailing prototype testing of the effectiveness of trailing arm ride height sensors to operate hydrofoils and provide input for both pitch control and unlimited stability. Includes a demonstration of the maneuverability possible when using foot pedal steering from a central cockpit.
Quick Foil Fix for Silent Speed

The FlyTri prototype foiling trimaran became noisy during testing after 17mm was cut from the trailing edges of the "T" foil lifters in order to move the centre of lift forward. Whilst only 2 mm thick, the fat edge produced a significant howling sound which was easily fixed by sanding on the beach with a battery powered angle grinder. High speeds without the noise were then easily achieved.
Foil Sailing in Choppy Waves

Another outing with the prototype FlyTri foiling trimaran. This time we had 12 to 18 knots of wind and a lot of chop leftover from a few very windy days, The FlyTri with its forward sensors performed effortlessly in these conditions with high average speeds achieved both up and downwind. The unlimited stability that comes from incidence controlled "T" foils provides great power and security and...
How to Sustain Flight in Light Winds

Another test sail of the FlyTri foiling trimaran concept being developed by Hydrofoils Australia. This high speed foiling multihull is extremely easy to sail and features an automatic self levelling flight control system which can be deployed by the pilot whenever desired. The boat is also very easy to transport and quick to rig with a clever folding cross beam arrangement. This video was taken...
Foil Type Comparison

Comparison of 2 foil shapes and ride height sensor systems. Shows Hydrofoil Australia FlyTri prototypes sailing with inverted "T" foils operated by height reading forward sensors and then with "L" foils and trailing arm sensors. The test sails show that both sensor types provide excellent pitch and roll feedback provided they are positioned a significant distance ahead of the foil strut pivot. ...

Foil Sailing Made Easy

Hydrofoil trimaran prototype sailing on Pittwater in Sydney. The video demonstrates how easy it can be to sail fast on foils even in very light winds. The boat used is a forerunner to a soon to be released production model called the FlyTri marketed by Hydrofoil Australia.
Hello my friend. It says production version available in 2023. is this the case?
@@SamuelLanghorn hi Samuel. We are a full year behind our planned release date. It’s not that we have encountered any problems but it’s not our full time job. Stay tuned though as we believe the final product will be worth the wait. Thanks for your interest. Cheers Peter
WOW! This is exactly what I envisioned how this would work, and you have already done it!!! I want to build a trimaran with this in Hawaii. It would be huge. Would you help me?
Fantastic! Thanks for posting!
That is so cool. Where can I get one 😂
AMAZINGNES!!!
very cool!
could we have a diagram of foils and sensors
👏👏👏👏👏👏
Why don't you put foils on the tinny 😊
It looks as though the surface sensor controls the angle of the complete t-foil, not just a trim tab on the horizontal wing on the bottom. Is that correct?
Can you stay on the foils while tackling?
Impressive iteration I like the no fuss flight controller! Many thanks for sharing, do you have an email contact? Cheers Ken
wow, surprised to see that it looks like the sensor is simply directly connected to the pivot of the entire foil/board. I see a pylon to lift the foil up, so it looks like the foil has a few degrees of pitch, and can be raised and lowered. It's a much simpler system than a moth foil. I'm wondering if the forward sensor ever dives? does this work well in bigger waves? hmm from the lawn shot I see the foils look at least a meter high, but you fly it quite low.
wow! angle grinders on the beach! that's my kinda style!
looks fantastic! how fast are you going here?
looks neat! how fast are you going here? may I recommend mounting the camera on a long stick so we can see more of the boat in the shot?
looks like an old Tornado rig and maybe even the center hull
Muito legal o projeto
Oh that is a great design. The akas look strong and so does the foil system. Nice
Thanks for the positive feedback. The whole thing looks pretty clunky at the moment but we are building a new aero production model with integrated sensors which should have strong market appeal. Cheers
@@hydrofoilaustralia6956 Have you got a ball park on price yet?
Great design . Looks fast and stable.
yeah. I don't have a flying sailboat yet. But it seems to me that the better hydrofoils are those that tilt the entire wing. As used by SKEETA/NIKKI and GLIDE FREE FOILS, also from Australia. By the way, hey Peter, check your mail box (maybe in spam) - about RAY sailboat.
wow. very comfortable and those fast turnings.
