Your my go to guy and it works,so keep the correct way coming! I just need more practice and don't listen to my friends😅
So simply you are releasing on a slight anheyser in order to achieve a flat flight.
Aloha, I would say a slight force over. You are just trying to get the disc edge up . Not try to turn the disc. So it would be 30 ft putt. 20 ft on force over, roll to flat last 10 feet hit chains. If you try to putt flat it just rolls to hyzer to fast. I have newer putting video and I'm going to be releasing my 7 video series prity soon . So look for them. Aloha Michael
I like your teaching style. Thanks!
Aloha, Thanks. Trying to keep it simple and informative. Aloha Michael
When does the shoulder turn happen? Old school teaching was peak reach from the shoulder turn should be timed up with when the front foot lands. But it seems from what you do, you shoulder turn and THEN stride forward before you unwind and throw? Is this correct? If so, maybe a video? BTW I really enjoy your content. I learned in the era of "old school" methods, and I am trying to break my habits.
Aloha. Made a video will get out this week. The shoulder turn starts in middle of the x-step. Come into x-step, shoulders turn , leg strides out landing perpendicular, which locks in your coil from shoulder turn. Body shifts to front leg to make the throw. Then uncoil on release. Watch video because I think I got it explained really good. Need to hold your breath to hold your coil. Aloha Michael
ty, good pointer.
Aloha, When I first started trying to putt harder I couldn't hit the basket. My form just fell apart. It really helped starting close then keep moving back farther. Aloha Michael
Should beat the wind wobble misses also
Aloha, I would love to putt a radar gun on the pros 30 to 40 ft putt. Would like to know how much speed they are getting on there putts. It amazes me on how far out they can putt flat. Aloha Michael
I think they need wind socks on baskets in Kansas 😆
Aloha, ya that could help. You would know what angle to set the putter on. Aloha Michael
I think that might beat a mild 15mph Kansas breeze also
Aloha, Well it's been tested in 20 mph here. lol. Aloha Michael
Just practice throwing it harder? i was kinda hoping for actual techniques.
Aloha, This is just about using your putting style and learn to putt harder. When I first started to practice 30 ft to 35 ft my form was the first thing to fall apart. It took some work to get to putting harder and not having my form break down. I do have a putting series I'm putting together. Hope to get out soon. Aloha Michael

Bend, stoop, stagger on one leg. I need yoga 😆
Aloha. Ya takes some getting use to. But it will help you have better balance on your throw with the leg behind you. Shouldn't pole everything to the right as much. Aloha Michael
@DiscGolf101 I'll bust on that 12lb wall ball in the morning at the gym on one leg then 😄
Aloha, just be careful. Aloha Michael
@@DiscGolf101 I'll keep the bad habit for bending around a tree here in Emporia ks
Aloha, I drove thru your state two weeks ago. Nice looking state. From my car. Aloha Michael
Wow, this was helpful. Thanks bro. I was feeling this "stiff forearm" and the power it provided on stand still upshots. Also, the arm sorta becoming a "brace" for the wrist on the putt. Nice to hear it put into words. Gives me confidence I am going the right direction. The straight-arm bit really makes sense.
Aloha, Ya it seems easier to learn something when you have a idea of what you are trying to do. But the throw is all about developing the wrist. Aloha Michael
This video is precisely on point.
Aloha, Thanks Michael
Thanks for the advice. Been having this problem with my backhand release and your points on arm tension I believe are exactly what's missing in my bad shots where I try to to go straight but have no power on my realease
Aloha, I mess around with this all the time. I have noticed from a tighter grip I also get better spin on the disc also. Aloha Michael
Great video and explanation of the importance of the elbow inside vs out. Work on it today and at 25 to 30 ft all misses were center high or low but never high left and at 40 feet no air balls even on misses. Keep up the great videos !
Aloha, Thanks, I'm glad the video helped. Aloha Michael
I'll give it s try. One less moving part.
Aloha, Ya it really helped me put straighter. Takes a little to get use to. Hope it helps you. Aloha Michael
Makes perfect sense. Sounds like a throw is a putting motion, you described, with incorporating the coil and the walk up all combined together with rhythm timing and tempo. If I am missing something or not interpreting something correctly please let me know. Thanks again for all of your help and insight.
Aloha, years ago I watched a video and the guy said " when I do everything correct, I can throw really far" I have always remembered that statement. But I find the smoother I get with my throw the better I throw .It sounds to me you are thinking through everything correctly. Aloha Michael
Thanks for your reply. I have enjoyed your videos and your insight and instructions. Your tips have been very helpful in my journey of improving my throwing skills.
Aloha Thank you. Just remember to have fun. Don't rush anything. It takes time to put it all together. Aloha Michael
Thanks for the video! As with ball golf good weight transfer puts most of your weight on the leading leg. Disc golf is no different as you well point out.
Aloha, Thanks Michael
Horrible advice. Power comes from the back leg and it should never be off the ground before the disc is released. Congrats on making people worse at disc golf
Aloha, You better inform all the pros they don't know how to throw correct. Also I don't teach throwing a force over as your main throw. I teach flat to hyzer. Flat shot your head is on top, you drive off back leg to front foot to throw the disc. Ask whoever you watch to do some hyzer videos and you will see you can not throw a hyzer from a force over run up. You need head on top. Aloha Michael
@@DiscGolf101 they don’t throw like you. Most of the best pros generate power with their back leg
Aloha, I have been playing disc golf for 19 years know. I know what I'm talking about. But it's all good. Thanks for watching and commenting. Aloha Michael
@@DiscGolf101 you’ve been playing 20 years and you can’t throw 500 feet. Maybe you’re doing something wrong??
Aloha, there was some poling done by a disc golf company on how far the pros throw there disc .on average. Think it was disc golf world. There data shows that only 2% say they throw 450 ft to 500 ft . 8% are 400 ft to 450 ft. 22 % 350ft to 400 ft. So by this data I am in the 10% of pros that can throw over 400 ft. Not to shabby I would say. 90% of people can't throw 400 ft. So throwing one time 500 ft into a heavy wind with a understable disc doesn't mean you have a 500 ft arm. I'm doing 400+ with my Destroyers like the pros. So I'm good with my arm power. Thanks for wrighting. Yes you can look up this data on your phone. I made a video on it. Take care. Aloha Michael
So, while you're correct about the weight transfer, the importance of the back leg can't be reduced. You watch any slow-mo of pros and they're pushing from their back leg, not dragging it, and internally rotating at the hip. The back leg moves forward and then out and around because it has nowhere else to go. In other words, I'd wager you're going to have more people front-leg throwing, which will cap the available power, as well as incline the player towards leaning over their front leg, which is extremely common. Sling Shot Disc golf just posted a video about this.
Aloha, So first thanks for wrighting. Sling Shot guy teaches (what is called a force over throw) . I teach this shot but as a specialty shot with a overstable disc. He is teaches this shot as a this is how you throw all the time. The force over is throw standing up right so you can get the outside edge of disc up to force it to turn to the right. Kinda like a anhyzer throw. Because you stand up right to make the throw your back leg will come around on the throw to the front. Being up right you can't stop your forward momentum. I teach how to throw straight. Or straight to a hyzer finish just like how the pros throw. This is your bread and butter shot, throw straight. When throwing straight your head is on top , shoulders rotate up. You are bent over this alos you to stop your forward momentum and leg stays behind on this shot. So we have two different shot being tought force over, me a straight shot. So ask Sling Shot guy to make videos on how to throw a spiked hyzer. His back leg will stay behind. Or try yourself throw a spike hyzer see what back leg does. I've been playing disc 18 years and I can throw my Destroyers over 400+. I don't need understable disc to get distance like Sling Shot guy. I hope this help clear up some stuff. Aloha Michael
Yikes that's a 275 pound flamingo on one leg
Aloha, Just dropped 10 lbs. 215
I'm 25lbs lighter after the gym and disc golf, but this snow cramps my tree killing in Kansas till it melts
Aloha, lived in Oregon for a while. The cold finally tired me out. Moved to Maui. Know I'm warm . lol. Take care , stay warm. Aloha Michael
OK i get it, sounds useful, feels like what I'm trying to do lately while playing. But - is your front leg really bent? I am confused, as so many people say you have to have it straight to brace correctly. I watched your throws at the end of this vid and it looks like your leg is straight (ish?)
Aloha, so first you want front leg bent, or popped. Not straight. You want a athletic stance when throwing, leg has a bend. The other people doing instruction are teaching to throw a force over throw. On a force over you stand straight up. Legs are straighter. You can't stop forward momentum so back leg swings around on the throw because of your stance. This puts disc on a right turn out of your hands. Not sure why they only teach a force over throw. I have videos on how to throw a force over throw. Difference is as a specialty shot. I teach head on top, shoulders up on the throw. For a straight shot , or straight to hyzer flight. Standard throw everyone does.
The ROC!! My favorite disc I have multiples of. Do you “cycle” your disc and have minimal molds.
Aloha, ya my bag is prity much set for the two course's here that I play. I really like the disc set up I have. I got my wind disc for are one course. Then I have my mountian 4500 ft level disc. I use to mess around with different disc but know (18 years DG) my bag is prity much set.
Wow so throw it more will break it in? Thanks man
Man you uploaded this EARLY if you’re in Maui! But it’s takes a lot of humility to throw putters I don’t know why 😂
Aloha, ya but once you get that DX plastic beat in. They are really fun to throw. Just don't throw it into a tree at high speed. That seem to be my thing. I have broken a few putters. Aloha Michael
@ it’s either gonna be the tree or the disc. Sadly the tree wins 99.9% of the time.
So true, lol
Roc3 Hyzer throw. I'll start experimenting with it a bit higher for different flights. TY
Aloha, my favorite mid-range is the Roc. Just a great flying disc. Aloha Michael
The visible difference between the towel popping and not popping is your elbow. Can't see your wrist well enough to tell if it does anything different, but when you say loose arm, you start rounding and extending your arm rather than getting to a power pocket. When you pop the towel, you bend your elbow, pull into the power pocket, and extend out of it properly. I am trying to work on wrist snap, but what I see here is a classic example of rounding versus power pocket.
Aloha, So snapping the towel I am trying to throw straight shot to get the snap. That is why arm up higher. Never tryed snapping on a hyzer. My be I give it a l try. That is why arm is up, but there is no why you can round off the throw (towel) and get it to snap. I recommend doing a straight shot to do towel drill. I grip the towel just like a disc and hold on tight. Aloha Michael
@@DiscGolf101 I understand the concept. My point is, in your video, your arm is rounding on the towel pulls that do not snap. It has nothing to do with hyzer. When you keep the hand close to the chest and pull through the pocket, you snap. When the arm extends away from the chest and rounds, it does not snap. Just a comment. The theory seems sound, and I plan to try it.
Aloha
I have found that this walk around technique is the best method to stay connected to your body and helps in maintaining consistency in your shoulder turn and coiling of your core muscles. Same technique we learned by our tennis coach when we were junior players. One would center the racket in front with a bent firm arm and take the racket back with your body and shoulder. It put you in a better position to hit consistent forehands or backhands. Incorporating those thoughts with your techniques I believe have made me a better player of disc golf. Thanks for sharing your tips. Keep them coming.
Aloha, Thanks. I'm glad the videos are helpful. Take care. Aloha Michael
Have been incorporating a firmer grip and forearm along with getting my legs bent more. Coming from a tennis and sports background it makes sense because one is about to make a powerful athlete motion. I also have a better sense of being connected and balanced. Starting to throw further on full speed drives and becoming much more consistent. I was taught the older method's starting out, and like you have found the more modern methods just work better. Keep up the great work with these very helpful tips and techniques. Thanks again for your help.
Aloha, Thanks I'm glad the videos are helpful. Michael
Lower to the ground + nose up = max flight 🫡
Aloha, Correct if having trouble getting nose down. I watch beginners here throw there disc 30 feet up in the air all the time. They got to keep it lower to learn first. Aloha Michael
Cool thanks nice review.
Aloha, Thanks Michael
Aloha Mike. Wonderful and sound advice. I am well on my way to getting on the pro circuit someday soon hopefully, and have watched most every disc golf video out there to get my game where it is now. Your simple and sound advice was a nice reprieve from the over analytical videos elsewhere. I really like how you simply stated that it is very hard to throw high launch angle shots, compared to lower ones. That sounds like a scientific truth to me. That made me realize that I have never taken that into account when choosing a shot. Now I will remind myself before choosing a shot that it's fine to aim high, but the higher I aim, the lower my chances are of executing said shot shape. Keep on truckin' Mike.
Aloha, Thank you very much for your comment and I'm glad this video was helpful for you. I try to make explanations as simple as possible so it's easy to understand and implement... got a lot of videos out and more coming so hope you stay tuned. Best of luck with your game and excited to hear how you do. Aloha Michael
Happy New Year, any chance you can lower the volume of the intro. music, I tether my Chromebook to my TV that runs to a receiver so I usually need to turn the intro. down so I don't wake the house up and then turn it back up to hear the lesson. I like the music fit's the Island feel.
Aloha, thanks for letting me know. Ya I will see what I can do. Didn't realize this so appreciate the feedback. Happy new year! Aloha
F yes!
Aloha Wilfredoriverajr, Thanks
Thanks for all the great vids i always have trouble walking into the stagger
Aloha, thanks! Ya so sounds like youre standing up too tall walking into the throw. Try the "athletic stance". So to walk into the stagger.. I would try starting by walking in slow. Make a deliberate step out. Also walk in with your head on top, with a slight lean. This will help you to step into the step out easier. Walk in with a bend in your legs. Will also help you step into the step out. Let me know if this helps! Aloha Michael
For a lot of players it comes naturally but my issue is that often my rear leg stays on the ground perpendicular which prevents the hips to come through and makes me so to say roll the wrist.
Aloha, So back leg is on the ground when you throw forehand. Sounds like a weight shift thing. When you run up x-step or just walk up to throw you need to make sure your head is on top or in front of your front leg. This will unweight the back leg and let it come around. If your head is in the middle you will have trouble because you are evenly weighted on both feet. So get your head on top of your front foot. Also make sure your front leg is open on the throw this will help you to spin on the balls of your feet. Aloha Michael
Happy New Year Michael 🎉
Aloha, Happy New Year to you as well. Aloha Michael
Old School guys for the win! You solved my nose up issue got my mids out to 270-300 today, got some faster disc to fly better and parked a few shots today in field work. I was wrecking my brain trying to pour the tea like the Mad hatter. Come to find out my setup was off. THANK YOU!

Excellent advice. I tend to over think things as you describe. When I throw poor shots I have to remind myself that even the pros throw poor shot from time to time as well. Also wanted to let you know that your tips on body positioning along with a firmer arm and grip has really helped my consistency. Thanks for your advice and help.
Aloha, Even after all these years I still have days were I get up set at myself. But in the end you need to have fun. Let me know if ever have questions. Thanks for watching. Aloha Michael
could you do a video on the difference between shoulder coil vs. just "turning backwards" one video you had you mentioned a mistake a lot of people make is "spin with the disc" rather than actually throw the disc, and i wonder if its due to poor coiling.
also, when you coil, i have an issue knowing how far away from my body the disc should be. it sort of looks like your arm is tucked in close under the chin.
turning your shoulders creates more upper body tension, and keeps you from swaying.
Aloha, The old school word "reach back " it makes people think you just stick your arm out backwards on the run up. So they are not thinking coiling, body tension. The more modern word "shoulder turn" is being used because when you turn your shoulders you can't help but put coil tention in your core. So people do it by default. The better coil the faster you can turn back to the front. The front braced leg helps keep the tention in your body from the coil. If you spin on your front leg you will release the coil tention. Stand with front leg perpendicular, coil you'll feel tension then open front foot you you'll notice the tension goes away . Spinning is from standing up to straight. You can't stop your momentum if you stand up tall. Head on top you can stop behind your braced leg.
Aloha, So old school they thought arm down your body line. But you would hit yourself in the chest on occasions because disc is too close to the body. Today guys are about one disc away from body . So the throw is kind of a out to in throw. Out from body on reach back then pull under face to release. This way you don't hit yourself in the chest anymore. Aloha Michael
Aloha, the thing is by turning your shoulders You build body tension without knowing it compared to reaching back and not building body tension. Aloha Michael
I agree. I like to initiate the coil with my left shoulder .
Aloha, I think it's a better way of thinking about coiling. Aloha Michael
@@DiscGolf101 Seems to me keeping the disc close to the body and letting the stride give u the reach back and focusing on giving the disc spin is more consistent. Maybe if your an advanced player you can add a little extra reach back. Thanks for the tips and insight.
Ya I agree, I really like just thing shoulder turn . Then pull. Aloha Michael

Aloha, I will try to put more me playing the course this next year. I liked making that video. Thanks for watch Aloha Michael
