Jake "the snake"👏💪
I was there with my brother clay and a few friends 1993 I was 16 years old best times ever
I was therw
I was there! It was a great day to be a Mountaineer.
Only WVU game I’ve ever been to. Didn’t figure I could top the experience.
ZIDES sideline jacket, who else bought one? St C Mall, cost me an arm and a leg, but i had one LOL
this is the most anyone ever scored on joe pa
FYI, Ted Kennedy was 13 years old when WW2 ended.
I was 13 years old when this game was played. Always a Mountaineer fan ❤
Great it was kids grew up together, amazing, like the Wright brothers.
I was eight years old in 1985 living near the West Virginia Virginia state line in Bluefield and what a wonderful time in my life to grow up I love both West Virginia and Virginia miss those innocent and prosperous days
Parsons shop N Save still has a mural of this flood. It’s crazy as a local seeing people I know in this video, what a small world after all. By the way, Rowlesburg is just fine these days, but it’s a shadow of its former self like every other town along this river. They call it the Cheat for a reason, they say it will “cheat” you out of your life”
Hopefully Ted Kennedy wasn’t driving…
I still weep today over what these floodwaters did to my beloved Parsons, WVa. It isn't the same town I used to know whenI grew up. It hurts me so much. The simple times, the familiar places... the 1950's and 1960's. And I would be away again. 'Cause I was also raised in Ohio. But that' another story. Precious memories😊😢😢😊
I love that movie..i tend to watch it every year or so
Remember when we could have banners and signs in the stadium. We were awful. :)
Great movie n story
Jake the Snake 🐍
This was a fluke back in 88
Didn't FSU shaft an undefeated conference champ West Virginia that year to get into the national championship game...... It didn't bother them then now its a problem
As we respond to crises abroad are we responding to crises at home? We haven’t improved much
This was my first game at Mountaineer Field. I was 17 years old and had enlisted in the Navy under the Delayed Entry Program. My mom asked me before the season started which game I wanted to go to as she wanted to take me to a game before I left for Military service and I picked this one. What a game! We were sitting on about the 35 yard line lower level around 10 rows up on the press box side. I’ll never forget the excitement and experience!
I live on the ohio river and i have a creek that run past the house i get flooded but its just back water im so glad its not fast moveing water
The real sobering event I recall was watching a 5,000 gallon fuel tank from Interstate Lumber hit the old Ices Ferry Bridge a couple of times, then it slid under, and popped up on the downstream side like a cork! I imagined the bridge was a goner, but it survived decades to finally be replaced and demolished. After seeing that I had to leave because the end of Mont Chateau Road is one low place and it was about to flood.
I was living in Morgantown when that happened. The debris at the dam was huge.
I was there
Music sucks
Man we tore the whole town down that night. It was crazy. Damn good times.
Joe knew before kick off this game was going to change everything.... He went to the Big 10 and never wanted to play the ole Gold & blue again...
And not one in ten has Flood Insurance, sit back vote MAGA and expect the gubmint to take care of them.
Reagan was president, you heartless puppet. There wasn't even the concept of a MAGA then. WV was largely democratic and union centered at that time.
Democrats want everyone dependent on the government.
?
At 17:20 is Duane “The Rock” Johnson.
WV should go back these uni’s
Nice! Then they got blown out by Florida.
When I saw that Miami had gotten blown out in their bowl game that year I thought, Oh Sh _ t!, they aren't as good as we thought.
Up until August 31 2024 !! When PSU come to Motown !! Let's Gooo Mountaineers!!
That game STUCK in Joe's crawl till the day he passed !! I was there !!
I had a fishing cabin on the Potomac in Cabins ,WV . When I went back to see what was left I couldn't even figure out where my cabin used to be . The entire river valley had changed forever. There were dead cows in tree tops
0:50 - The big double-track railroad bridge at Rowlesburg was taken out by all of the upstream wreckage lodging against it and the ensuing water backup ripping it off of its piers. B&O had a single-track trestle and traffic restored within three weeks, which was somewhat amazing considering the "St Louis Mainline" between Grafton and Parkersburg had already been taken out of service in the summer of 1985. If CSX had been running the show, one wonders of they would have bothered restoring rail service at all. Reportedly the tower operator at MK Tower (M&K Junction, Rowlesburg) was stranded in his tower for several hours because water had backed up Salt Lick Creek and flooded out the access road. The railroad suffered a fatality when some engines on a westbound empty hopper train (the "coal cars") slid over the hill near Bond, Maryland on Seventeen Mile Grade, killing D. S. Ake who had gone back to restart one of the units. B&O and later CSX never bothered to put another trestle in to restore double-track service; the otherwise two-track main between Cumberland and Grafton was reduced to one track between Rowlesburg and a point just west of town (later cut back to Blaser / Tunnelton). MK Tower remained in service until December 2010. Trains still roll through Rowlesburg several times every 24 hours, but it is no longer a point of operating significance. There are a lot of empty lots along the river where houses once stood. It is weird to be in the basement of the former Rowlesburg High School and think that for several hours in November 1985 it was completely full of water and the water got close to the ceiling of the first floor. Most of the time, the Cheat is a lazy, peaceful river but there are times it turns into a raging torrent that cannot be trusted.
My cousin had a book about " the flood". We used to look at it on our way to Seneca Rocks.
Now there will be one about the flooding in Tennessee and North Carolina.
It appears VP Pence lied to him because we did not go back to the moon by 2024
Was a cold night.
I was out to game and I saw a woman in a Fur coat for mine coming up the steps and I will horn. West Virginia beat Miami West Virginia beat Miami.
Happy belated Birthday Homer (Feb. 19, 1943).🎉
One of the cool moments in the film is when the boys are "borrowing" the railroad track and the train passes by. The guy driving the train is O. Winston Link, who was a wonderful photographer. He took lots of great images at the end of the steam locomotive era. Some of his photos are my favorite images. Be sure to look him up.
I was a new member of the West Virginia Army National Guard. After two weeks of rain in the eastern panhandle we were called up to assist in flooding back state. First spot was Paw Paw until the water receded, then to Franklin for a week and a half of traffic control and road construction. Ironically, while the waters were receding in Paw Paw, it was headed to slam the Eastern Panhandle where we lived. I retired from the WVARNG in 2011 with many "small flood" call ups, but the flood of 85' was etched in our minds and by far the worst. Images of death and destruction like nothing I'd ever seen.
Im from morgan co. I was born in 85 but ive always heard of how bad it was in 85
What a great game and season, West Virginia pride here!!!
Was in the parking lot all day, one of the coldest days in my life. Cooked a Turkey under the bank drive through roof which acted like a wind tunnel. Great times.
My family had season tickets for 1993, but only 4 (I think) per game; it was my first time seeing the Eers. I remember at the beginning of the season, my older brother (a sarcastic teenager at the time) was irate that I was going to the Eastern Michigan game, and he was 'stuck with' the Miami game ticket, and for weeks all I heard was 'It's okay, Joe can see them win, I don't have to see them win. I'll go to the Miami game'. It's been 30 years... I still give him hell about it.
My freshman year and greats memories of what WVU football used to be. The pride, passion, feeling you got on gameday Saturdays, its not like that today and hasnt been sinethe mid 2000's
My dad was there with the National Guard. He was there for about 4 weeks helping to clean up. He brought home a 6 pack of Anheiser Bush water. I still have them to this day
Turn that stupid music off!!!!!!
Yeah, I remember it well. My son was all Miami, he was way too cool to be a Mountaineer fan, Kept telling me that West Virginia didn't have a chance against the Mighty Hurricanes. I didn't say much at the end of the game, didn't have to, just the look on his face was enough. Great memories.
