Anything is possible, but basically no without totally trashing the current PCB and housing. USB C requires additional board components to function correctly. I would instead suggest trying to find a barrel-to-C adapter that lives outside of the module, like a dongle.

How did you repair a broken pin?

With a soldering iron kit.

@@leof4838You can’t if it’s broken, only bent. Just opened up mine now using this video. One of the ports wasn’t charging anymore, pin was bent. When I tried to set it straight it broke off. Very poor quality unfortunately, have to buy another station.

Hi! That's definitely an option. If you want the setup that will make the system feel the fastest I would get an mSATA and put the OS on it. From there you could leave the HDD as is and choose to boot to the mSATA. Or you could swap in an SSD for the HDD and move your data over. Or you could move the HDD to a caddy so you have lots of storage. Lots of possibilities!

There shouldn't be a limitation on SSD storage size, only physical size.

Its relatively easy until you have to remove it. I recommend having a large engine lift and attaching a tilt mechanism. Getting the engine and transmission over the radiator brace is a challenge, but being able to tilt it makes it easier. I also recommend draining your transmission because it will leak out of the output once the driveshaft is removed and makes a big mess.

The hard drive is housed in a "hard drive caddy". This should be the one for this laptop: www.ebay.com/p/1275646172, but you'll want to double-check.

Buy the official charger, works great.

It's a good question! The mSATA is used for the operating system and so booting will only happen from it, and the original HDD was switched over to use for storage. It is possible to copy your HDD directly to the mSATA as an image, IF the mSATA's total size is larger than the partition you want to move over from the HDD. There are multiple tools out there to do this, but CloneZilla (clonezilla.org/ ) is the main one I've used. If you want to start relatively fresh with the new boot drive you can also just keep your old drive as-is and just choose to boot from the new drive by default. You should still be able to access the data on your old drive. As another option you can just copy over the data you need from the HDD and then wipe it to free up space for more storage. There are a lot of options for how to move, manage, and access your data so feel free to ask more questions! :)

@EDGE+ thank you very much! I was planning on doing exactly this but I dropped my laptop the same day I commented, and it stopped booting the HDD head is.... not good haha but the plates are still good, going to head swap so I can save the important stuff, then just get a SSD for it.

sorry for the delay, we used a brown general spray paint for the bottom layer and then yellow for a light top coat. both the spray paints were from a department store like Walmart or Fred Meyer. the track parts are black paint and then just some grey acrylic paint from a department store as well. I unfortunately did not not exactly what paints I was using.

Simply cutting the cord and splicing on a male USB will likely fry your board. It would likely require a capacitor change/addition to the board but I couldn't tell ya where. I'm a mechanical engineer not an electrical engineer 🤣 That being said if you got dispensible money send it and lmk how it goes!! Will likely not work tho
