The NEW Greens Lick is OPEN - Bent Creek - Asheville, NC - Mountain Bike
After nearly two decades of little to no maintenance on Greens Lick the awesome folks at Pisgah Area SORBA worked with the USFS and local trail building company Elevated Trail Design Llc, as well as a small army of volunteers, to rework the trail from top to bottom in 6 weeks! This trail is an absolute blast!!! It has so many options for so many skill levels and in all honesty should be a shining example of what can be done with exemplary vision and modern trail building techniques. Please click the two links below to check out PAS and Elevated Trail Design and thank them when you see them! Also, make sure you join, donate or volunteer for a trail day!

The hottest gravel event on earth!! - Southeast Gravel Series - ASMR
Просмотров 995 месяцев назад
Well, after a brief time off of the bike due to an injury I was finally able to put some miles in. 2 months off and 5 pounds heavier certainly didn't help my cause. I raced the short course which ended up being right around 42.5 miles and 184 feet of elevation gain. This was a very "road" course in its design and certainly not my area of expertise but I got it done anyway. Conditions were hot (...

Join me on a mountain bike ride!!! Not my fastest effort but not too bad either. Just a casual and fun solo ride. It was fun getting back out on the big bike after mostly riding my short travel bike and my gravel bike. Hot Springs Gravel Gauntlet - Southeast Gravel Series
Просмотров 2207 месяцев назад
The second race in the Southeast Gravel Series happened just outside Asheville, NC in the small river town of Hot Springs, NC. Both the short and long courses were shorter than average for this series but what they lacked in length they made up with elevation. With sustained climbs of 14% and punches of up to 18% it reminded you that you are in the mountain for sure. But the downhills were supe...
Greenwood Gravel Grinder - Spirit of What?

Well, I decided to dip my toes into the gravel scene. By "dip my toes in" I mean I signed up for the entire Southeast Gravel Series and I got my butt kicked at the first race. The first race was in Greenwood, SC and the long course was supposed to be around 72 miles but ended up being 78.5 after multiple reroutes due to flooding. I learned a lot at this race and it is my longest ride to date by...

Well....this is cool! Santa Cruz Megatower!!!!
Looks awesome, will ride. Thanks for the video!
@@HendersonvilleBikeShop thanks for watching!
OK, now BC is gonna blow up once and for all. ;) This looks sick, gonna try it today.
its finally gonna get busy out there on the weekends I suppose.
Some sections are better while others I did not like as much (like the weird rocky water bars in the upper section). I think it will improve as it gets ridden in over the next couple months.
100% it will get better with time on those areas for sure.
How's the climb? I'll be in the area this week. Might add it to my list
Its long but not bad. The easiest but longest way up is via gravel and double track. There are multiple ways to get up there though. I think it is around 1500 of elevation gain or so.
Boyd branch road to Little Hickory top takes you to 5 points. From there it's the second part of Northern boundary. It's 40 min unless you fly.
@@glenntaylor3186 This is my favorite way up since the LHT work. The elevation comes so gradually with a couple bits of fun to boot
@@benwigginsbikes This is how I went up. It was a bitch of a climb for my old, fat ass. Had my first OTB wreck and first bear encounter on the way down, so all in all it was an adventure! 😀
@@SpammsMcghee that sounds like an eventful ride for sure!!! I hope you didn’t get too banged up!
I believe I'd try a hard tail on that one. Nice video man.
fire it up!
My old Kona Honzo was great on the old greens lick. I'll have to get over there this week.
I'll be there this Friday morning. 😄
Can’t wait to check it out.. looks good!
Nice! Great video!
Thank you!! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
it looks like they took the jumps out that were at the top section just before the final descent back into down to the gravel road 😞
Its still looks good though, like its nice and flowy now...
@@D1RT_THERAPY there are wall rides with gaps off, hip jumps, some hidden doubles, a shark fin or two, the hip at the bottom is a foot taller at least....I would say more features have been added than removed for sure. There are also significantly larger features. As long as assholes dont come through and knock the lips off itll be awesome.
@@benwigginsbikes nice!, cant wait to try it out.
@@D1RT_THERAPY I think you will dog it. :)
to be fair it does look like they added quite a few more jumps on that section, overall it looks better. But I will miss that rock built jump right before the lower section lol
What up Man? You doing any Go Nuts this year?
Yo!!! Hows it going friend? I might try to hit one in the fall series late in the year depending on my new work schedule. How are things going for you? Are you racing the fall series?
@@benwigginsbikes Sweet! I'm going try hit a couple. Hope see ya at one!
ya rode it sunday..luv it way better now..lil soft rn but itll wear in
So much better and itll end up bedding in nicely I think.
12mm pins crank brother stamps,, 5010 shoes treated with wd40 sticks like you wont believe. , wd40 makes a grippy shoe more grippy. I have the same exact thoughts and fears as you, and for now going to stay with flats.
You are upright and not bleeding! Congratulations. - I was worried for you in the root section! Simple take on this: Mtn bikes are made for that terrain. Ride one there. The Fargo is on the very capable end of the gravel spectrum. Perfect for touring, bikepacking or going over rougher gravel trails and smoother single track. You will love it loaded up and bikepacking as it is stable. If things progress along and you really want to bikepacking more ambitious MTB trails, you would be better served on a hardtail. I think Fargo’s go a lot of places that might break other bikes or their riders, but suspension is a good thing if you are going to push. Have fun and always stay in the drops when descending!
I love my mountain bike and I also learned that my Fargo is capable....but it isn't my MTB. It was fun experiment that I will never repeat.
Where is this location?
We pedaled from Bent Creek in Asheville, NC up and over into North Mills river area and back. The majority of the ride was on Bent Creek Road and Wash Creek. I think the actual road is FR5000.
I guess it could, but doesn't mean one should.
very true.
This very well may be one of my favorite go-to loops in Pisgah. What are some of your favorite loops?
what trail is this
Spencer Gap and Fletcher Creek in North Mills River
Great vid man
Thanks Pat!
That was pretty cool, Scooter.
Thanks man!!!!
I promise I still mountain bike! I've got a couple of MTB videos coming up so stay tuned! Do any of y'all ride gravel and MTB? Lemme know what bikes you are on.
Cafe Bustello! All downhill to the finish are the best. That looks like a fun course. I've only ever done the Dirt Diggler. Need more gravel racing in my life.
It's a fun series!!! I legit hit 45.1mph on the way back into town.
Hey I see me in the turnaround crowd 😂
Such shitty weather
The Redshift suspension stem and suspension seatpost are heaven.
amazing...
Thanks!!!
Guide service? I wanted to do that.
Mt. Tamalpais >>>to>>>Moab (40 years) >>>headed for Ashe..... Learned to ride/race '70's. How's e biking rounds there.??
Most of the areas around are still closed to e-bikes ( Piegan National Forest and such...) but there are certainly opportunities and the law doesnt stop folks from riding them everywhere.
@@benwigginsbikes ..I call it 'e bigotry', usually from people who never rode one. I was a cat 1 roadie/tracking and early klunker (before mt. bikes), but im 70 and velove that I can feel just like it felt when I was 20. I'm bringing all my bikes.
@@itswitzmoab go for it. I am not here for the pro or anti-bike discussion.
How was that ride?
It tasted and felt like zero fucks given.
Looking for advice from a guy who rides the Spire. I’m caught between the Patrol and the Spire. I do ride my local bike parks here in the PNW. But I also rode my local trails and put in some climbing to get to the top of the mountain. Any advice?
My apologies for the delayed response! I wouldn’t hesitate to get the Spire if you are more park heavy than long trail rides. It climbs pretty efficiently for what it is so the trail days won’t hurt you too much. I did a few 30 mile / 3500 ft elevation days on mine in Pisgah National Forest.
@@benwigginsbikesthanks for the reply. I picked up a Spire and love it. It climbs just fine. I’m not looking to do any cross country or enduro races on it. The only issue I’ve had is on narrow trails that have deep ruts is peddle strikes. But other than that it’s awesome.
I bought a Fargo in 2022 and spent 9 hours on it the first serious ride. It was all asphalt riding though lots of steep hills and it was a total blast!! The only thing I would like to change, is the high gear. I feel like I am needing a little more top end gearing, however I get its a gravel Bike and that I can load it up with everything but the kitchen sink. And still be able to climb decent hills, but I like the road race feeling on the asphalt! Maybe someday when its not allergic to dirt, I will find a single track to tear down.
I totally get that feeling about the gearing for sure. I did install a new chainring that was larger by two teeth and it has worked out well. I was spinning out at times on the long flat sections that connect some of my gravel routes.
I have just come across this video and really enjoyed it. I am a prospective Salsa Fargo buyer in the UK. I am keen to use it for bike packing. You mention this and if you haven't seen this video on this bike packing set up. ruclips.net/video/Mc-wOjY9IM0/видео.html
Best bike ever!!🔥
Lets freakin go!
So pro!
Awesome! Gonna add this to my list of places to ride.
hi there, good video.. Question, did you bottom up the rear shock ?? multiple times?
I actually did not bottom it out on the trail I tested it on. It was pretty stiff and I didn't have a shock pump so I didn't want to adjust it too much. I do think the suggested settings were way off. for what it is worth I tested a Transition Spur shortly after this and that is what I went with and I don't regret it at all. Lighter, simpler and way more fun but also climbs really well.
@@benwigginsbikes do you have a video of the Spur review?
Stay tuned!!! It is coming. @@rlopez9044
@@rlopez9044 I will reposting one from a ride yesterday so stay tuned!
Hey man, great vid You said the SB 115 you ride is size L, how tall are you? 👍
I was just demoing the bike but it was a large. I am 5'10" and still felt kind of compact coming from my size large Megatower. I think that had a lot to do with the overall feel and wheelbase however.
Great informative review. Much appreciated. It's been 2yr since you said you were going to get into bikepacking. We need a status update. Fargo is the legendary bikepacking bike. I ordered one today. Let's hear it!
There is very little the Fargo can't do front rack with panniers it gets wobbly but I have no reference the Fargo is only bike that is have loaded up excellent bike how far can you go
You know you did it right when your bike is worth more then your car! 😁 Jealous dude!
I wouldn't say that the obstacle course is beginner friendly. I just went there for the first time and just about ate dirt.
When you think u have the good angles down
spire is my favorite bike of all time, somehow it still pedals well yet handles anything downhill
Its s good bike for sure! I am selling it however and getting back on a Santa Cruz.
@@benwigginsbikes I know this is an ancient post, but it somehow popped up on my feed. I wanted to ask why you went back to Santa Cruz? as I’m currently looking at going from SC nomad to transition spire 👀
@@Bigbobbydazzler123 in all honesty it was too long and too slack. I love riding rowdy shit but I do it in an area where pedaling big days is the norm. I also never felt like my frontend was really taking on as much traction as it should no matter how far forward I was. Additionally, the leverage ratio was weird to me. It took a lot to get things moving from sag position. I am 100% happy to be back on a Megatower.
@@benwigginsbikes Nice, thanks for the insight. I was just about to go for the spire, but might hold out for a deal on a megatower now. Cheers 👍
Just watched both videos, you definitely held your own with Kevin!! I’d say it was equal 😃 great video just subscribed 🤘🏻
Thank you! It was fun for sure!
Schooled in Pisgah, don't feel bad. Ha. Great video very entertaining!!!

Fun day on bikes.
Looking forward to the next one!

Biltmore has great beginner trails as well!
Perfect music for the Spire 😂
Race bmx than time trial road. Than WOW I seen beach mountain dh park. Well now I race😂
I've just picked one of these up in the UK after 35 years of riding hardtails. Sore back requires a shift to the FS dark side, this yeti seemed to tick the boxes. Hoping for great things 👌
