Ser Dontos Hollard on vocals
My biggest fear: To like an uncomplete song
The way he talks about Colon at the start you think they’re going to completely rock out, yet they’re tame campy indie.
I know Norm Macdonald is dead but you don't have to carry on his tradition of explaining the joke
This is what Alan Partridge would have sounded like if he had been an indie DJ .
The Beautiful South isn’t it?
Everything you know is wrong
Those camera moves for indy club 😆
Just brilliantly accurate
So on the money, indie bands were being hyped so much and then most were twee strummers knocking out a nice but instantly forgettable tune. To be fair to the Fast show somebody there had musical talent as loads of the throwaway songs they used like this are actually pretty good.
This sketch sounds exactly like the way Jo Whiley used to talk about Coldplay on Radio 1. Perhaps Travis and Coldplay killed the this 90s brit-pop era. Massive hype in the media but then slow and melancholy music.
This branding around indie music continued after this, particularly around the 00s. This band are dangerous... theyll change your life. Nah, its just good pop tunes... which is what we're after. Great sketch.
The mid 90's summed up in 1 minute and 37 seconds
Thing is back in the day I really thought bands that sound like Simon and Garfunkel could bring down capitalism. Especially if the NME told me so.
Can anyone find the full version of this?
Seems there isn't
@@JohnnyInTheBasement shame, it’s so jolly! 😀
@@secretgoldfish931 It's so oasis-beatles
Being a teen in the 90s loved this sketch
Grrrrrrroundbreaking
Add uber distortion = RIDE
The singer of "Colon" is Tony Way who appreared in a lot of Ricky Gervais comedies, Doctor Who, Edge Of Tomorrow and a lot of other rolls. This seems to be his earliest credit on IMDB.
And Gary from Mongrels. A sadly missed show.
I think this is the same guy who had a comedy sketch show on BBC3 about ten years ago called Titty Bang Bang?
Ahaha, I thought it could be him! Hilarious!
And Ali G In Da House 😂
Better than Blur and Oasis
Who? I only listen to Colon
It could literally be a Teenage Fanclub song.
Love this sketch. Tony Way is so Paul Heaton here :)
Oasis sounds like colon omg
Screw you Oasis, Colon is the way...
It's impressive writing a song with comic timing
Jazz Club...and the on-off Indie Club were wonderful parodies of late night music programming. What was genius was that, for the uninitiated, the sketches were hilarious...for the jazz fan, there were all sorts of little musical "jokes" to get! Desolate Shore is James Taylor Quartet, for example! John Thompson, Lous Balfour here, once said "But I do have a little sympathy for the uninitiated. When people say “weird”, I get the impression they’ve encountered free jazz, the musical equivalent of Tracey Emin’s bed. The late Tony Wilson, my friend and the boss of Factory Records, said he would never go and see jazz because he couldn’t tolerate the idea of the musicians having a better time than the audience. I laughed at that, but there’s an element of truth to it. This avant garde form of free jazz, with no melodic structure, is what we were parodying in The Fast Show. But there’s much more to jazz than that."
"No-one's heard anything like this before". LOL!!
It implies here they are an Indie band, but I've always filed my Colon albums under Acid Skiffle.
The Beautiful South are much better than this it must be said
This is very funny. If you want a more indepth piss take of 90's music look up smack the pony songs.
It's early Primal Scream and Alan McGee!
The popes colon got mentioned and I immediately thought of this sketch.
Is the singer the fat reporter from After Life….?
This track is actually more than halfway decent. The frontman looks like Curly Watts from 'Coronation Street'.
Due to an acrymonius split, Colon have decided to have their bass player "polyip" removed.
No word of a lie, if I could I'd go out right now to Virgin Megastore to get a tape of Colon's 'Kick In The Sun'. Probably grab a Calipo on the way home as I'm SO HARD CORE.
You haven't lived or died unless you've heard Colon bootleg underground subway mix of kicking in my spleen recorded by deliberate mistake 17weeks ago
Never sure if Zane Lowe on Radio1 based his entire act on the opening monologue….
It reminds me of Gary Crowley who used to do a late-night indie music show on ITV, I think, sometime in the late 90s/early 00s. Everything was "the best band ever."
Colon's lead singer is in Afterlife
Edd chi spoof
I've decided indie is shit 😂
Such a pity Colon split so soon into their career.
I really got into colon, back in the day.
NME talking about The Stone Roses
Sounds like the Bluetones lol! God I hated that era of music.
Nice.
I like how they set up the rhyme to deliver the titular line "kick in the sun" but cut before they get to it. I assume it would be something along the lines of getting your kicks, in the sun.
"like a one hand grenade" Never understand why it's not "like a hand grenade" or "like one hand grenade" No one says "a one"
It's a mistake.
ironically, pretty much the next 20 years of comfortable background british guitar bands then based themselves off this performance
Sounds like teenage fanclub

Ha Ha this is how Zane lowe used to talk back in the early 2000's, the 16 year old me would have seen this, rushed out to HMV to buy their album before my mates could. I was such an NME whore. The amount of money I spent on cd's, don't regret it at all, still own many of them.
