    Great explanation. How do you feel about using classes rather than exclusively tags? For example could you have a note of class "meeting" (type) with "subject" property. Would that add any value?

    hey man, love your video. I bought the demo vault, however the logredis in the weekly, monthly an yearly Highlights and Day reviews callouts seem to not work. It does not give me any kind of error, it just says "no results for task query". Any clues on why this is happening?

    So if I understand things correctly, you have to use ```dataview with the back ticks, but you have to put a > in front of it to prevent it from becoming a code block, because if you don't put the > there, it doesn't stay inside the callout? And I see some dataview blocks where every line has a > and some that don't. For example, the Tasks callout on the daily note template only has the > on the opening and closing ```. There are others, however, that have the > on every line. That is not entirely necesary, right? Just on the dataview line? Also, some blocks have a closing ```, and some don't. I imagine since code block formatting is being escaped on the first line, that you don't need that last ```, right? I'm seeing this on the daily template, where On This Day and Notes Created This Day only have the opening ```, but the Tasks one has both opening and closing ```. Just trying to wrap my head around all this.

    • @construct_by_dee
      @construct_by_dee 7 дней назад

      You can write a log about a person anywhere in your vault. Let's say you want to "log" a something about [[Bob]]. anywhere in your vault you can do this by writing it in the following format: - [ ] I met [[Bob]] today. He is great at building things! He is a yes man. He always says he can! Next you need to create [[Bob]]'s page using the "people template". This log should automatically appear on his page under the "log" section. Hope this helps!

    • @construct_by_dee
      @construct_by_dee 8 дней назад

      Hi there! The <% %> symbols are used to signify template code in Obsidian. In the templates we've created, you'll notice that the created-date field is enclosed within these symbols. Essentially, when you create a new note, Obsidian interprets the code between the <% %> characters. It recognizes that you want to insert today's date and automatically populates the created-date field with it. Hope this makes sense. If not, let me know and I'll take another stab at explaining it.

      While I was making this video, I was thinking the same thing, although I really feel attached to the -2 to 2 rating system. The 10-point rating system feels like too much, as we tend to choose the extremes in any case (very bad, very good, or very neutral). I could change the numbers to range from 1 to 4, with 1 being the worst and 4 being the best, but my mind doesn’t like that solution. When I find a solution, or if I give up and go back to the good old 10-point system, I’ll be sure to let you know!

    Thanks for the roll-up, I really like the philosophy behind your vault. I bought your first vault a few months ago; and I am in the process of updating it. I have an issue with the Average section though. I get the following error message in the Weekly file "Error parsing YAML" . When I have a look at the daily file, there is a warning sign in front of each of the logs in the frontmatter "type mismatch, expected text" - I noticed that in the traditional frontmatter view your numbers are in quotation marks (e:g: "-2") mine aren't. What property type did you use for the logs in the daily template?

    • @construct_by_dee
      @construct_by_dee Месяц назад

      Hi there! If you already purchased a previous vault send me mail with your email address that I can give you access to the latest one! Regarding your question, it should be in a "number" format. If you see quotes around the numbers it probably won't work. It might be that there is a mismatch between the days in that week. Meaning some days might have the normal numbers (-2 to 2) without quotes, and some have the quotes around them. This might cause the calculation in your weekly note to break because it is trying to sum a number with a text. Again, send me your mail and you can see the latest vault in action ;)

      Hi there! The error you're seeing is expected when viewing the template itself. It should resolve once you activate the template for a specific month. I just tested it on my end, and it still seems to work correctly once activated for a specific month. It’s possible that something in the Templater plugin isn't functioning properly. I really like how you kept it simple. Just a quick question, what’s the difference between the highlights and the aliases. To me they look like they serve the same use. I know you said to only use the aliases for serious events. But if you let go of that and decide to instead think of one single thing about each and every single day and put that into the aliases,I think this is better structure. Overall this structure is really good, I just don’t understand what the difference is between highlights and aliases

    • @construct_by_dee
      @construct_by_dee Месяц назад

      Howdy! It's open to interpretation. For me, "aliases" would be things like: reaching 10k subscribers on my RUclips channel, quitting my job, getting married, moving to Japan, or going into outer space. On the other hand, "highlights" are anything and everything that made you happy or proud on a specific day. For instance, playing with a puppy, enjoying a fantastic coffee, having a good consulting session, helping a granny cross the street, going to bed early, having an interesting thought, or enjoying playing the guitar. So, in essence, if you create an "alias" for every day, it becomes a little diluted. The big moments won’t stand out as much. With highlights, the intention is to use them in your weekly reviews to track the things that make you happy and fulfilled, with the aim of maintaining an optimistic, rose-colored lens through which you view your life. Hope that makes sense! :)

    Thank you for this review, I agree with a lot of it. Though i dont agree to making folders for the daily notes (year, month etc). We have dataview and various search methods we can use. Making folders is redundant.

    • @cmx-v3x
      @cmx-v3x Месяц назад

      I can appreciate how folders aren't necessarily required, but i fail to understand how folders are redundant. As you can drive behavior in Obsidian given a folder a note is in, can't folders serve a purpose? Try eliminating templates from your graph unless the folder they are in is excluded. Putting templates or other system oriented (not note related) items into an excluded folder seems efficient. Also some are more visually oriented and folders can serve them. I do believe folders are often overused when YAML properties or tags can better serve the intended purpose. The flexibility of Obsidian means that there are many ways to accomplish the same or a similar task in a multitude of ways. No one size fits all, it seems.

    • @beastmode9460
      @beastmode9460 Месяц назад

      @@cmx-v3x You are right, folders can serve a purpose. I should not have said "redundant". But in the case of splitting them to distinguish between them, in this case, isn't required.

    • @construct_by_dee
      @construct_by_dee Месяц назад

      Hi there! I agree-the folder structure isn't always necessary. My thought process is to avoid unnecessary folders in my system, but when a note clearly belongs in a specific folder, like a daily note, I don't see any harm in creating it (if that’s what you prefer). For me, having a designated folder makes it easier to find a specific daily note by navigating through the folder structure in my storage system (Google Drive). If I were a chef, I might have just one folder called "Recipes" where I'd store all my recipes. That way, it would be easy to find or share any file from my Google Drive in the future. So, in conclusion, you can eliminate the journal folder if you prefer-but personally, it's a folder I still enjoy using! That is the great thing about Obsidian, so many different ways of doing things :) Thanks for the comments! I always enjoy testing some of the beliefs I've built up.

    my guess is you are looking to automate the wheel of life to populate off the rankings given in the lower explanation, correct? so you replace a "5" with a 2 or a 9 it would update above. This resonates with me. A suggestion is to change the font intensity (change color to grey) for the explanation reminder in the template below each life area so it is distinct from your comments, which is what you want to readily review.

  • @cmx-v3x

    my sense is that your system works best as a recap of what has been accomplished and the tasks are more higher level - like project milestones rather than every task. I have hear you mention that you have integrated TodoIst into your Obsidian workflow which makes sense for someone with a lot going on. I think the beauty of GTD is it can help me avoid overwhelm. I can plan out a project, look at all the tasks, I can make to-do lists, but at some point there is a gap between managing the system and doing the work. My mind works well on what to do, but processes which help me prioritize and focus on keeping the projects moving forward to achieve the next milestone is very helpful. This system seems to have enough flexibility to allow for that - detail if required but it isn't demanded. There are projects that seem to demand detail and some that just need some brute force to get them completed. 2 minute rule, etc... Quickly logging "dones" accomplished based on significance builds momentum for me. I look at a project and I usually know what's next, or most important. I get lost in the tracking. so basically, thanks for this and for keeping things focused and fairly simple, while allowing for complexity.

    • @construct_by_dee
      @construct_by_dee Месяц назад

      Let me start by saying that I truly appreciate all your comments! Please continue stress-testing everything I'm preaching; that's what will help make my system better as well. :) As for tasks, they're not a big deal for me. I generally have a good sense of what the "next" task for a project should be. However, I understand that others rely heavily on a robust task management system, and I don't think Obsidian is quite there yet for that purpose. When it comes to projects, the most important thing for me is not to lose any "useful" information, even if I'm working on it sporadically. That's why I find the "sprint" methodology of tracking efforts particularly valuable. After each sprint, I can clearly see the "tasks" I accomplished. Stay hydrated!

  • @cmx-v3x
    @cmx-v3x 2 месяца назад

    thank you for this. an expansion of the concept that can be carried or expanded virtually anywhere! considering the update of the daily note "log" using the intent tag to it gets removed when "done", and perhaps adding a note that didn't exist at the time that should reference the first log or notice of the "thing" - a trick or what-have-you. wouldn't you just label the task as complete and build a line which would exclude any completed task from the log? curious if that could be the optimal solution to maintaining accuracy on your daily notes yet also factor in it being removed from lists?

  • @cmx-v3x
    @cmx-v3x 2 месяца назад

    heartening to see prior comments be implemented in your dataview codes. for those less dedicated or consistent that Eli, what do you think about a tag of log/exercise/fail or log/exercise/skip and eliminate the description tags around intensity and duration etc.? on the Workout Log could have a place showing skipped or failed occasions? thanks!

    • @construct_by_dee
      @construct_by_dee Месяц назад

      I have since removed a lot of the description tags in my personal workflow. So glad that people are choosing what to keep and what to take away! Simpler is always better! For the "fail" or "skip" that would mean that you had to set a goal for yourself. So I would imagine you have a goal of how many times you wanted to go and didn't. If that is the case this is definitely a good adjustment. In my latest daily to yearly rollup I built in some "habit tracking" -ish functionality which would probably be more useful for reviews.

  • @cmx-v3x
    @cmx-v3x 2 месяца назад

    thanks again for your effort on these and continuing to flesh out a system that works well for you in Obsidian. i paused when you suggested at about 10:20 that the log of the [[Cafe more exploration]] #intent/to-go tag would just be removed when the place was visited. It was my intent on day of the note. then when it was visited, it will still show up as a place to go even though it was visited based on the coding. So the tag needs to go, or at least change, and that it WAS my intent on that day I still want to note. It would go away from the note listed, perhaps it would have it's own note... so perhaps #/intent/was/to-go would be appropriate? this of course depends on ones sense of propriety about the accuracy of past daily notes. and the workflow set up around managing updates that impact how tasks and tagged items show up in MoC's and Lists. Have you decided on a solution for this that you follow personally?

    • @construct_by_dee
      @construct_by_dee Месяц назад

      There’s definitely room for improvement and personal interpretation in my workflows, so I’m glad you noticed this small gap. Although this issue doesn’t particularly bother me, it’s something I’ve considered in the past. Ideally, the best solution might be to have the log checked and include the date, similar to what you'd expect from the Tasks plugin, to indicate when the "action" or "intent" was completed. This way, you could create a Dataview to retrieve all unchecked "intent/to-go" logs and another Dataview for checked logs to see which places you actually visited, along with the "completed date." But honestly, this problem has many potential solutions, and I’m not completely sold on any of my ideas yet. I’d love to hear your insights!

    • @cmx-v3x
      @cmx-v3x Месяц назад

      @@construct_by_dee i think i am getting ahead of myself a little bit and need to wait for the problem to pop up before formulating a solution. i do have a hard sense that changing the daily note sometime in the future isn't a good one, as it's changing history. so completing could work and having the dataview syntax check for this and show uncompleted and completed in the same MoC note. thanks!
