CM5 Gamepad/Gyro Test

Testing out the controller PCBs which now use an RP2040 instead of the original ATMEGA32u4. Still a few tweaks to make here and there, but basic functionality is working.
Retro Lite CM5: Alternate Mode over Type-C (DisplayPort)
Просмотров 723Год назад
A quick working example of an external USB-C PD controller implementation, with SuperSpeed mux flip and hotplug detect to negotiate alternate modes over Type-C - Armbian 23.11.1 with Radxa CM5 & RK3588S SoC. I used the TUSB546A and TPS65987D from Texas Instruments to get this working & will feature in the final CM5 build.

Nice Switch bro
Is that a modified Gameforce Ace?
@@ilkeryoldas Nope! It’s built from scratch by myself and a good friend. github.com/StonedEdge/Retro-Lite-CM5
@stonededge nice.. how much did it cost total?
@@ilkeryoldas Not sure, probably around $400 for one single unit.
@@stonededge oh wow.. I'm going to spamm Powkiddy and Anbernic email address with your GitHub link until they make a clone for cheaper :)
Can you make a tutorial because it looks cool
@@baltazar_gaming Tutorial for what exactly? I just installed the precompiled APK.
@stonededge for the RetrOLED CM5
Damm thats cool ! Tutorial when ?
Smooth-looking :)
Awesome! Frame lows? Anything unplayable?
@@Jgreb314 50 FPS drops, with most games unplayable unfortunately. I wouldn’t consider this a Wii U machine but the emulator is extremely immature at the moment. Need to wait a while for better CPU optimization.
Looks cool!
where can i buy one?
@@nwokodi215 Sorry, they aren’t for sale…
Where can I buy your case?
They arent for sale. I have everything open sourced on GitHub for those who want to have a go.
I want to build one I want one with glow in the dark filament
Pls do an tutorial i w a n t it sooooe baaad
Lookin good my man.
Just shut up and take my money !!!!!!!
so amazing!! have you tried steam games on linux with it?
@@XINN1X Yeah, for now we don’t have access to DXVK on Linux but anything that will work with Panfrost will work. Portal, Dead Cells, Hollow Knight to name a few
looking good! cant wait
For what exactly? 😊
It doesn't fit inside switch lite?
@@ilkeryoldas Unfortunately no
Awesome work!! - the grips look very ergonomic ... is it possible to see the internals? - a teardown perhaps
Oh wait - it's the CM5 Lite but with an OLED display? - you already did a teardown.
@@DavidFilskov Yeah, pretty much the same except an OLED.
Great - but I can't find a CM5 Lite teardown - is the CM4 Lite a lot like the RetrOLED CM5 too, then?
Looks amazing!
sell me that thing
I really love this thing and I hope to build it eventually! Have you ever thought about making something more akin to DS? It think that would be an extremely valuable project since I am not aware about any emulation handheld device which would try to mimic that design yet (other than expensive Aya NOE Flip DS).
tutorial for how build it 😅
@@toutatra This is a DIY project. It’s not meant to be hand holding :) All the details are on GitHub. Good luck.
why are there less than 500 view, this diserves more
Appreciate that! Probably because I’m just haphazardly talking behind a camera.
Super dopeeeee
Just watched Nacho's video on the CM4 version. This is so cool!
Rpi compute module is available with built in wifi. While I'm sure your solution is much more performant, it also adds a lot of complexity. What made you decide to go through all this additional effort?
Sorry, do you mean in the context of WiFi or the Compute Module? The RK3588s is much more performant than the CM4 (they use different SoCs entirely).
@@stonededge cm4 module is slow but the chip you added is 🏍
@@stonededge oh crap sorry, does this no longer use a cm4?
@@stonededge I'm not sure I follow, this thing uses a rpi compute module right? I was just wondering what made you decide to add in an extra wifi chip, because afaik wifi is built in into the rpi compute module. But I could be wrong.
This one had some really cool improvements looking forward to checking it out first hand 😮
Thanks man. We’re long overdue for a catch-up.
THIS IS SO COOL. Can't wait to see the final product :D
Beautiful work! I read on your github "Why do this when you can get an equivalent handheld from Aliexpress for $150?". I don't think you get something that plays Wii @720p for that price? This makes more sense than you give credit for!
Thanks for this - great work! - looking forward to see some more emulation testing.
*Impressive!* Well done! 👍
Better WiFi support than any expensive gaming handheld!
Very Cool!
Amazing! It looks so TIDY 😍
Ayy thanks! I really liked your recent PS4 video too. Nice job!
@@stonededge Hey thanks dude 😃
This is looking awesome!
Very cool! Looking forward to this! Keep up the great work
Looks absolutely fantastic!
Cheers!
The Retrolite CM5 is looking great. The color choice on the shells are sweet too. That purple iridescent color is awesome 👌 Cant wait to see this one in person. ❤
Great work. You have a much needed skill in my world.
I love it when people manifest their passions into reality. Great job on the handheld
This is looking great bud. Looks real comfortable with a nice kick to it🔥
hopefully, you have a store that could sell the kits. Kind of like the freeplaytech GBA. maybe even make one that fits inside a switch lite case or just use the switch lite front faceplate.
I am excited to get my stuff set up and ready to work on this
I love seeing the progress on this. I hope to build one myself!
THANK YOU
Well done mate, looking even better than our original version!
This is so incredible ive been dreaming of a rg556 competitor that runs linux and the fact this is ultra repairable and upgradable when new Computer Modules are release is so amazing! only thing I would want in future version would be some additional back buttons similar to the Steam Deck and the cut outs for the fan and speakers (which maybe could be front facing in the future?) Great work!!
How much will this be and when avaiable
@@scottamero7909 No dates yet.
Looking great! Wish RUclips would auto rotate a sideways video! Makes my neck a little sore to see all the wonderful hardware!
Yeah. Sorry about that… I usually use a browser extension but I don’t have any decent camera/mic setup to become a RUclipsr :) So my phone will have to do.
@@stonededge you can rotate it using a video editing app on your phone or even the media player on windows. youtube might even let you rotate it from within youtube itself
@@stonededge actually You don't need "special" camera/mic. Only knowledge how to use VST in SonyVegas (to make sound and video decent)
@@stonededge And sound in this video is fine :D
@@stonededgejust waiting on the juicy follow up showing the insides!
i came from the wii sp and saw this was just uploaded lol
Dude, you’re unbearable to listen to. Even with only subtitles. Seek speech therapy, or something. Jesus.
