Donizetti - Lucia di Lammermoor - Sutherland, Turp, Rouleau, Shaw / Pritchard - Edinburgh 1961
This audio recording was recorded from BBC radio during the Edinburgh Festival of 1961. The sound quality is very fine for its age ! Joan Sutherland is in glorious voice, it was only 2 years after her first Lucia's at Covent Garden. The applause was heavily cut, probably to save tape ! Enjoy ! The recording starts with the national anthem.

Bellini - Beatrice di Tenda - Sutherland, Cioni, Elkins, Zanasi / Rescigno - Napoli 4 May 1962

This audience recording was not made with good equipment, there are pitch problems, distortions, sometimes muffled sound, but also clear passages. Anyway this recording is a unique document in opera history and I am afraid that no better exists ! You can get a good idea of the performance. If the sound is disturbing for you, go to the Scala 61 Beatrice ! Siamo felici

This is a broadcast recording from Italian radio, recorded by a friend from Milano, Renato is his name , he was a great fan of Leyla Gencer ! The pirate Lp's and CD's originate all from this source. The wonderful black and white pictures were provided by Mr Akai, who is a great Sutherland admirer ! This occasion was the first time that Joan Sutherland sang the opera on stage and if I remember w...

This is a very fine audience recording of the Beatrice di Tenda performance, which marked the debut of Joan Sutherland, as well as Marilyn Horne in New York. It was an evening of glorious singing and of course a great succes !!! The recording you hear is the unfiltered version, copied from the recording made in the the Hall. I remember that the pirate label Bella Voce issued the recording, but ...

Here is another audience recording of the Fantastic Puritani performances from San Francisco with the two BIG stars : Joan Sutherland and Alfredo Kraus. Here they are, like in the other performances of the series, bel canto singers, who are exemplary and very hard to surpass. Siamo Felici

This is an audience recording of a MAGNIFICENT performance of Puritani. The two big stars are Joan Sutherland and Alfredo Kraus at the very peak of their career ! This is a dream performance ! The sound is good for such a recording, only in the loud passages there is some distortion. But listening to the music, one forgets this ! Siamo felici
Mozart - Don Giovanni - Sutherland, Kraus, Lorengar, Siepi, Flagello / Böhm - Met, 17 January 1967

This is a performance of Don Giovanni taken directly from the Metropolitan's housewires. There are disturbing interruptions in the music by the stage director cuing in the singers. A strong limiter was used during the recording, therefore the voices sound rather dry, still very clear. The recording has historical value because of Alfredo Kraus singing the Ottavio. In the broadcast the role was ...

This audiorecording is the Metropolitan broadcast from the direct relay, unfiltered, just as it was. The quality is nice and clear, better in quality than the filterings that have been done by the official releases by the Met. The cast is quite outstanding........so enjoy ! Siamo felici !
Rossini - Semiramide - Sutherland, Horne, Rouleau, Hoekman, Montal /Bonynge - Boston, 7 Febr.1965

This is a good audience recording of an exciting performance of Semiramide. Sutherland as well as Horne in one of their most glamorous roles ! In fact they made them their own, because there is nobody who equals them in this opera ! Vai records has issued a live recording of Semiramide as well from Boston, but they used a recording of the first performance, which was given on February 5. This i...

This is a good audience recording of a Gala with Joan Sutherland at the Met in NY . She is partnered by three great tenors of the time ! Together they perform : Traviata - Act 1 with Sandor Konya, cond. by George Schick Lucia di Lammermoor - Act 3 with Richard Tucker, cond. Silvio Varviso La Sonnambula - Act 3 with Nicolai Gedda an Giorgio Tozzi, Varviso conducting In the picture you see Sandor...

This audience recording is from technical standpoint quite terrible, because there is a lot of microphone disturbing noise, BUT the quality of the performance, especially Sutherland and Gedda deliver some glorious singing. Try to ignore the mike noise and listen to the singing ! Gedda produces some STUNNING high notes ! Siamo felici !!!!

Semiramide was one of Joan Sutherland's greatest roles. This audience recording was made during the famous Australia tour, which she did in 1965. For her it was: back in her home country and it became a great succes. Even the young Pavarotti went along to Australia . Together they performed there: Lucia, Sonnambula, and Traviata as well ! There are not many good sounding souvenirs of this tour ...

This amateur video was made from the balcony in the theater in Utrecht ( Holland ). The camera was a bit heavy, so together with a few friends we managed on turns holding the camera ! Joan was amused when she heard about our undertaking ! Later that year she was preparing Lucia at the Met with Kraus. She wrote me a postcard, saying : Dear friend, I am singing Lucia at the Met and it will be tel...

Vintage Live Classical....the best recording of Puritani I have heard since the Serafin conducted '52 recording with Callas / di Stefano....Pavarotti's high note in " A Te A Caro" is exceptional.
Manca Letizia Giuliani!
It’s just amazing the people out there who question the sheer massive amount of power of that voice. What’s wrong with them?
THE GLORY DAYS OF OPERA AUSTRALIA. SUTHERLAND AND CO DIVINE!!!
I saw Cossutta's first Otello at the ROH which is also on RUclips. and I saw all these performances. Chiara wonderful, pity she only sang this and Liu in Shuard's last Turandot's at the ROH. Cossutta still my favorite Otello,Carroli great on stage but a unusual voice. Patane was always great.
ni la orquesta puede con ella....................................
la voz de sutherland es atmosferica.......lo abarca todo el terreno pero cuando......la eleva aun mas...es un misil atomico................................

Memorable concert, historical document.❤❤
OMG!!! I must listen again. Thank you!!
Thank you for this incredible treasure. I attended a later performance of this run. I was thirteen years old at the time and it inspired me to become an opera coach. Now at age 62 it's a miracle to have found your recording and relive the thrill. The sound quality of it is remarkable. PS I have been a coach at the Met for 34 years and still am. Yours most gratefully!
Hello, thank you for your work. One wish: can you upload the trio concert with Suterhland, Pavarotti and Horne again? I've been waiting years to see this concert... and was so happy about your upload. Now it is unfortunately offline again.
I am sorry to tell you that my upload of the Trioconcert was blocked by You tube ! I can send it to you, but need your address ! Regards André
Thank you so much for posting the entire concert. I saw them in performance together, and they were unparalleled. Absolutely wonderful!
I attended too, but not this televised concert. They added another performance a few days later, and that’s the one I saw. I still have the program. P.S. I assume this is configured to disallow downloading; I was going to download it to my computer so that I could watch sections at my leisure (I don't have 2-1/2 hours at one time!). Oh well.
You should be able to download the program. Try another downloadprogram like i-Tunes by example !
❤❤❤❤
Another gem! Thank you for your generosity!
Thanks for all your excellent uploads. Do you have Aida from Covent Garden in 1968 with Gwyneth Jones and Jon Vickers? There is supposed to be a recording with them from 24 January.
I am sorry, I dont have it !!!!

Thank you so much. I bought it, in lps when I was 16. They are for me still the best. Sutherland the greatest.
Such a GREAT concert! Thank you SO much for sharing this!
Amazing Quality! Knowing the old vhs quality this is a Great improvement!! ❤thank you!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! At long last, a decent quality version.
This seems a lifetime ago. I was 34 years old and bought a ticket for this concert. I shall never forget this special evening.
How lucky people were at the Edinburgh festival 1961 to hear this Kings Theatre?
Greatest soprano of her time! Incredible!

What a night! Great singers, obviously. They are the main draw to recordings. But I also have to applaud Richard Bonynge. It's clear that this is one of his favorite operas to conduct. In many operas the cuts that he opens feel unnecessary. Here, those openings are very welcomed.
Un maravilloso documento. Grandísimo pianista, que tendría que ser más conocido, tocando música gloriosa. Gracias por compartir.
Дякую за розкішний подарунок
❤❤❤❤
Was this transposed down? That was a high D in Spargi D'amaro Pianto! Or is it just the recording sound?
What a magnificent performance. Sutherland and Pavarotti are glorious. I can only imagine the impact of hearing this in the theater. Opera doesn’t get any better than this.
No one will ever sing this role better than Dame Joan !
Il baritono può cantare anche da tenore. Immenso Bonisolli, alle impervie vette del re bemolle nel terzetto.

52:06 What happened to Barnaba's 2nd verse ("Spia coi fulminei...")? 2:09:29 Povero (and povera) indeed... A role maybe too heavy for Renata...
Absolute vocal perfection!!! 💜💜💜
Glourios times and Amazing concert, thank you for sharing, regards fro Portugal.
If this was recorded by an audience member, why is there a radio announcer on this recording?
It was not the radio announcer, but Tony, the collector !!!!!!!
Incomparable !!! The best !!!
Coppia eterna. Inarrivabili. Hanno segnato un'epoca ❤❤
"The wonderful black and white pictures were provided by Mr Akai, who is a great Sutherland admirer !" Indeed they do! Thank you both for this upload! It's a time machine!
Sutherland on glorious form. I wish I'd heard her in this role in the theatre - I first saw her in London in Lucrezia Borgia in 1980. It was a unique sound. Tourangeau also a very interesting voice; I cherish her "Arias from Forgotten Operas" with Bonynge and her other French roles with Sutherland and Bonynge. Thanks so much for sharing.
