Martina Hingis was one of those players you loved to watch, against any player, but especially vs either of the Williams sisters. Where many feared and were steam rolled off of the court, Hingis was masterful, creative and seem to not labor much while she took care of business. It was Martina, that the Williams sisters feared. Well, maybe not feared, but either of them knew they were going to be in a battle, and probably come up short, in the end. In hindsight, the head-to-head was close, no matter what Williams Sister, but it just seemed Hingis was the crafty one that made the win look effortless. Of course she was made to scramble, but at some point it would seem that Hingis would say "enough of this" and switch up her style and that's when tides were turned. They were fun matches to watch, because the challenge was there, in the form of a Showdown.

The depth of the women's game back in the 2000s was just incredible, we got a 5 time and 4 time GS winner out there and to think they were not even the best ! And Martina retired aged 21 and came back what 26 ? Crazy, but the game moved on - the age of power had truly started.

The Swiss Miss can still play and has good speed as well. Her forehand is alittle soft, but the rest of her game is still dam good.

This match was a turnaround for Venus. The best she played against Serena in years. Baby sis thought it was going to be one way, and Venus had to let her know. Serena was tight after this match. You can see she was caught off guard from the beginning, and it rattled her.

I thought Hingis was banned/retired from the sport and could only do demonstration matches. Plus what happened with her heel/ankle injuries? She said she couldn't play anymore because of it.

It seem like Sharapova underestimated Venus. I could be wrong.

How Hingis can lost with that unknow player....

She was such a technical genius. Her forehand is nowhere close to the way it was in her prime where she always hit it so deep and could hit winners at times on that side, but that backhand is still world class. It's an honor to see her play even now.
