The last video I watched with a similar concept (garage elevator into attic) received lots of comments regarding safety, so be prepared for that kind of feedback.
Probably. There's a lot of "experts" out there. To be honest, the elevator will probably be primarily used to send boxes up,,,and,,, down. No people. Though I've ridden it a few times and feel perfectly safe
@@Rosskenpo1 - some of the safety, besides humans riding it, stemmed from the possibility of a pet or child being beneath the unit when it comes down. Probably not something you’re worried about, but other people will bug you about that.
@@stevebabiak6997 well climbing a ladder 11 ft up carrying a box on my shoulder is more of a safety issue than my lift for me! Thanks..
love it!

It's a bugger to install, but it can be done; just be patient and as the other guys mentioned, get the right tools to get in there.
Right in my own back yard, pretty cool seeing something on youtube that i am part of almost everyday
Glad you enjoyed it! I'm on rt 101 often, on Pack often too
13 years later, this is still valid!
i got mine installed. Lessons learned. Go ahead and remove the shifter. 8 bolts that are easy to get to including the parking brake. Take old rags and stuff inside bell housing before starting so when you drop something, which you will, the part will not fall to the bottom. Thirdly. I tried everything to get to the bolts. The best and only thing I found to work was a 1/4 drive ratchet with a 1/4 to 3/8 adapter (this also works as an inch extension which is about perfect) and a 5/8 inch shallow socket. ) Once I figured this out it went pretty quick. Fourthly, I used two 3/8 deep sockets as guides to install the seal. I was having problems sliding the metal sleeves of the seal into the transmission case. I slid the sockets from the gear side into the case and through to the bellhousing and then slid the sleeves over the sockets right into the tranny case. Been about one week and no leak so far. Lastly the 600w oil from any Model A parts house is very very thick and in fact it is so thick it slows down or prevents leaks
Nice ! I fought w this thing until 2am last night- what a biooooothhhhhhh for real ! I got the replacement nylon insert coming in the mail plus this hack. It should do the trick Ty. Thank you so much! God bless
Reporting back. The mod has been done. Planning to test it soon. In the future I’m planning on adding new bushing flange insert and a small shaft collar clamp to keep things even neater and out of the way. Will report back, again once completed. Cheers and God bless !
He’s a good boy. 🤘🏻
Enjoy the ride I would fun with the oldies👍
Very beautiful vehicle nice and simple to fix👍
Did the Real Deal Transmission Seal fix your leak?
Well, It fixed one leak, the major leak. It was worth using as now I don't have to constantly top off the transmission oil. I have a second transmission I'm going to rebuild and seal up to eliminate all the leaks.
@@Rosskenpo1 Thank you. I have a minor leak into the bell housing and found this as a possible solution. It doesn't look too bad to install compared to removing the transmission, and if it fixes the leak so I don't have to keep adding oil and dumping it in the bell housing and on the floor, for now, I will do that. I do expect that someday, one day, I will have to pull the trans, I just don't want to do it today if I can avoid it.
Give it a try, and I'm sure it will help reduce leakage.
Is the hand break on in the forward or backward ppsition
I ended up getting an oem original hand brake lever as that repop lever worked right..
Parts 1 & 2 are great. ✅🇺🇸

Give me good idea!!! Thank you
Excellent idea....I appreciate it! Sitting here thinking how I might fix this same problem and in one minute search came to your video. Thank you!
Glad to help!
You my friend- are a fucking genius! Thank you 🙏
His head is too low, and a small hose from the pump to the car would help. Thanks for sharing
yes, all was sorted out and it's still spinning at a friends house, thanks for the comment
Intimate misfire? Was it trying to seduce you?
Awesome drive 😎 in the old ford 😃
Hello Ross...Mark here...a few yrs. ago I acquired a Riley Whiting tall case, wooden movement and thru research, I dated to early 1800s, 1815 to 1825...What th...!!! This master piece works like a charm...concrete-ish weights, two piece pendulum shank about 4 ft. long... I run him once a week to keep him in shape haha Pine case...I believe it was stripped clean of the black lacquer that was used back then...it's evident on the inside of the 'removeable' bonnet and the coating on the inside of the belly door. P.S. I tried to send you some pics of this Ben Ben but it ain't workin'...Such a chunk of history tho, in this piece of early techno. Two hundred years later and Riley's still tik-talkin' and chiming to me!! def look at more of your clock vids! Tempus Fugit
Nice, I own two. The one in my shop needs repair. I'll get to it this Fall and post a video. I did have it working, but the weight cords finally let go. The weights should be tin case filled with metal pieces

Good fix. I remember freezing my you know what off one winter screwing with those damn washers on the shift fork. I was swearing too!
good idea. That is easier than installing a new bushing. I was thinking of drilling a small hole on the shaft and installing a roll pin to hold the shaft but what you came up with is much easier to do.
I was going to do the same until I saw this video. Thanks!!
Great video! Saved me last year, I somewhat modified this piece and used a old ikea bracket and a ziptie.. might have to use your method as it looks more permanent
Great! Glad it helped
@@Rosskenpo1 currently having a issue with the traction/gear cable. Looks like previous owner didn't know how it went together but it looks like it should be a simple fix - I just need a replacement nut and bolt
Just did this on my 2000 Sea Ray 180br. Worked great. Watch SEI Marine video on how to replace cable to see the disconnect at the motor.
Made this repair on my Mercruiser shift boot today. Takes two people less than an hour to complete the job. Can provide instructions if anyone needs assistance.
If you could please send me the instructions it would be greatly appreciated. Starting the job in the next few weeks.
Instructions please
If you could provide instructions that would be awesome
If you still have it, can you forward to me? Thanks!
Dude, blow your nose! Everytime you suck up your snots I cringe. Otherwise, good video.
Did this yesterday, hardest part was getting boot on the cable. What I did was, just get the boot started over the cable and then push it so that it becomes inside out. Then it is easier to see. I also used a funnel shown in another video to push it along. Grease helps. Did not use anything to guide the cable back through the transom, that process took all of 3 minutes. Another part that some guys might find unfamiliar is the fastener that holds the cable on the linkage, mine was just 2 small square bolts that unscrew on each side in the normal fashion. After finishing this job, I could not imagine removing the outdrive to get it done and I have removed outdrives and motors several times.
so how do you remove the end peice? the metal shifter peice the wire goes into ??
Thank you ! Due to your video I decided to fix the leaking bellow myself. Took me a little over an hour.
Thank you! Saved me a couple of hundred $ !
How can anyone say this was a good video.
I never said it was a good video. It's meant to help people as an overview of a quick repair for broken shift bellow
@@Rosskenpo1 It helped me save $700. Thank you. i created a small video where i give you credit.
Well I can, it gave me enough info to do the repair and save me a lot of time by not doing it the other way. Let me guess you are a boat mechanic and you are pissed you didn't get to do this exact job the same way but for $500
I'd say this guy has issues. I don't get anything posting videos. I figure if I can help some regular guy, I post it as paying forward. I'm always looking on RUclips for advice. As unlike this complainer guy, I don't everything!
@@offdutyfishing2312 Doing ours this week, thanks to you and Ross Thoms both your contributions have been very helpful!
Thanks just gave it a try! And it worked!
Glad it worked for you
Thanks for the vid. I had water coming in and saw my shift cable bellow was bad. This will make for a quick easy repair.
Thanks for the video and updates. I just failed inspection for the same reason. Did you need to replace any brackets or were the old ones still ok? We have an 02 Odyssey.
No, the replacement came with everything I needed. I did reuse the bumper bolts
Where is part 2?
Yeah, I've been slacking. I did compete the job. Used 3m weather strip yellow glue and tie wraps on the new boot. Snaked the shift cable back up from behind the engine using a bent cloth hanger. Difficult, but doable and reattached the cable to the attachment point on top of the engine.
Thank you! Saved me in the middle of a blizzard. I probably need new bushings and washers as they are worn, but thanks to this video hopefully the zip ties I used to accomplish the same thing will get me through the winter.
Great! Glad it helped you out
Thank you, works good.
What brand was it?
Thanks for the video, it was very helpful. I just used JB Weld to glue the cable end directly to the cam on my 2001 Odyssey. Not as robust as the approach with the sleeve, but hopefully it will last a few years. So far, so good.
The reason for two different spark plugs is because one side of the engine was assembled at different factory.
u still have the oem glass? mine broke😔
Sorry, no. I think it's long gone
No, I did have the glass, think I threw it out
I'll look
In process of this repair now. Thanks for the detail. Not sure if my fix (based on your idea) will hold. Thanks for the video.
Sorry, the video isn't great. But it sounds like you get the idea. An aside, I sold the Accord a couple months ago with 200k miles, still running well and the cruise working as it should.
Well, what I did was the "JB Weld" patch, after fabricating a brass 'socket' for the cable end. I wasn't sure that it would hold, though, so I also patched in a thin piece of wire through the socket, and threaded that through the 'tab' in the cruise-control cam. VERY frustrating that such a significant part isn't available. I was trying to figure out if another throttle cam could be adapted to serve as a cc cam, but no joy there. We're taking the vehicle on a cross-country trip, starting tomorrow. I'll let you know how we fare...
Holy crap! I was struggling with this for a while. Great alternative fix! Thanks!
do you happen to remember the order of the springs, bushings, and cams? I feel like I've tried ever order possible and still can't get it reassembled right.
Ross, I know its been a year however do you have a record of the part# from partsgeek? They offer at least 2 alternatives. Have you been happy with your choice since you did the repair. I have a 2000 Honda Odyssey with 240K needing the same repair.
Sorry, I don't really remember which one I chose. Still looks good after one winter. I did spray the van underside with Fluid Film in order to keep it rust free. I think you would be safe using either one offered.
