    Regarding the Dairy...there's 'lactose free milk/chocolate milk' ...a greatn alternative for those intolerant.The lactose free icecream is AWESOME! Vit D and B12 comes in a spray which is absorbing through your mouth ,or oil drops and Capsules for vitamins/ minerals are unlike solid pills which don't break down even in a person with a functioning gut. I have Crohns and Colitis with no large bowel now and only two thirds of the small intestine I don't absorb any amount of so many things necessary for sustaining life ,of certain things like B12 Vit D magnesium and water depending on how much of the small was removed through surgeries. it is non existence so I must go for IV in the hospital hospital 3 X weekly for minimum 3 hrs for magnesium and ringers lactaid (electrolytes)infusion . Having this has greatly impacted my life and looking for any info on Jpouches to decide if this would be an alternative. From other informative videos it doesn't appear favorable for me unfortunately . I DO BELIEVE DIET IS CRUCIAL as you do point out . I wish parents bringing up their children make sure to watch everything they digest to try and AVOID these life altering and unfavorable consequences and digestive diseases.: Your info is so important and wish I had this knowledge BEFORE I had to get the bag and deal with this , since and currently. . I WAS very active and outgoing with training my horse , skiing,dancing and working, as well as being a gymnast medal winner BEFORE the last bout of surgeries,prolapsed ileum surgery 4 months after the iinitial ileostomy operation. Then a number of 'errors' by surgeons so likely 2 much scarring now for a pouch.. Keep up with your videos and information young lady!!! Your videos greatly help us all! A bidet is a must!

      @@rosierosehealth3138 thanks for the reply... One question I have when you have an opportunity is whether you'd have the jpouch surgery again knowing what you know now and having been through it already, or do was life easier/simpler with the stoma?

    • @rosierosehealth3138
      @rosierosehealth3138 3 года назад

      @@Toronto.real.estate absolutely. I would definitely have it again. It was the best decision I ever made. I got used to the stoma, but having a J Pouch is much better. Easier. Of course, be prepared to have some hiccups. Everything won’t be perfect right away. And you basically have to re-learn how to use your body again. Going the bathroom with a Jpouch feels different muscle wise. But once you understand what makes it work, it gets easier and faster. My BIGGEST tip is to recognize what triggers issues (i.e. butt burn, leakage, watery stool, swelling). Once you know STICK to the things that you KNOW won’t trigger any issues.

    I also have another questions for anyone who reads this....what supplements help you guys?? I take Milk Thistle, Vitamin D3, probiotics, I take apple cider vinegar here and there which helps cut down on the weight quick I only do it sporadically when I feel too bloated an I just started zinc which seems to make my mouth dryyy lol. Also does anyone use entocort as a maintenance med? If so how has it helped, They put me on that because my last flare was sooooo frecking bad....I didn't think I was gonna make it ugh but thank God I'm still here. What do you do for your mental state if anything? I've had my pouch since 1998 an as I've gotten older my mental has been off which makes me sad because I really don't like taking meds for that an was hoping to find something so I don't have too before my appt comes up I was hoping to find a natural alternative you know I had bad experiences with the pharmaceuticals AND they make you put on weight at least that was my experience which made my joints suffer even more because of the weight.

      I'll preface this by saying that I still have an ileostomy and haven't had my takedown yet. I've been taking Naturelo multi vitamins which is whole food & organic and have found that it has really helped with keeping my energy level pretty high & consistent. I purchased it via Amazon, it comes in male & female versions, and I've been using the 4 pills per day version, as opposed to the 1 a day version. I also take a vitamin D supplement which includes k3 to assist with absorption. I get it from Amazon as well, and it's made by CanPrev.

    Hello there🤗 Glad all is well now. I'd love to hear about histamine so I'll be looking out for that. Far as my diet I've been doing intermittent fasting, it has been working. I have to have some carbs or I'll just constantly go an I'll get really weak at least it seems like it especially because I workout I struggle with the energy to do it, but I press through still trying to find balance in the working out energy part 🤷🏽‍♀️ I don't know if I'm not eating enough at times or what....I make sure I incorporate things like kale, brussel sprouts, lima beans, asparagus, potatoes, sweet potatoes but not too many sweet potatoes for me they speed things up a little too much if I eat too many an I eat chicken n fish only. Lots of water n electrolytes as well.💕

    Just had my takedown 5 weeks ago I’m 36 And this was the last of the 3 surgeries This has been the hardest most psychological hardship so far. I’ve tried everything I feel like the only thing that works is painkillers lomotil and Imodium 4 times a day. I hope these issues subside otherwise I’m going permanent stoma. This buttburn and lack of sleep from bowel movements is hard. I’m reading these comments and it appears it never goes away at least with the pouch I could eat what I wanted idk help me!!!!

    • @rosierosehealth3138
      @rosierosehealth3138 4 года назад

      666newcastle hey! I’m sorry you’re going through that! Your metabolism will eventually slow down to match your digestive system so you’re not going as much. Also you really need to look at what you eat. That was the thing that solved most my problems. Cheese or any kind of dairy really, makes my output runny and non stop. I become a poop machine. So I cut that out. I also found out nuts (except peanuts) no matter what form they’re in (butters, mills, raw) are the most painful thing I can ever do to my booty. It makes me swollen so I’m constantly having to go since I can’t get everything out in one sitting. AND it feels like shards of glass coming out of me. I don’t know if it’s an enzyme thing or what. So I cut those out as well. There’s some other things but I found those were my main problem. What you eat is everything. It sucks not being able to eat like the rest of the world. But I’m fine sacrificing those things so I can feel normal. Everything also gets better with time. I now only get up on e in the middle of the night and sometimes not at all!

  • @aprilgriffin9218
    @aprilgriffin9218 4 года назад

    I am totally in agreement on keeping a food journal to find foods and liquids that exacerbate your output. However, I would like to recommend going one more step and write down, not only what you eat, but how it was prepared. Preparation can be as big of a problem as the food itself. For instance I can eat french fries that are baked in the oven but not deep fried.

    • @ThisEpicLife

      Well, it's been about 18 months since I had my take-down surgery. I'm doing pretty well with the j-pouch! Those first few months were definitely rough at times, but I definitely felt myself improving gradually, month-by-month. I can now go ten to fourteen hours between restroom breaks. It's not necessarily comfortable, but it's definitely doable, which makes my job as a paramedic far easier. I can eat pretty much whatever I want, within reason. I've only had "butt-burn" once, and that was about a month after the surgery. It was absolutely awful, but only lasted a few days, thankfully. The hardest part was between the second and the third surgery. That loop ileostomy was kind of a nightmare. A lot of my issue was because I have a fairly hair belly, and shaving it was difficult, due to the potential for irritation. I developed a blockage two days before I was scheduled to have my take-down, which was really just bad luck. That significantly complicated things. Over all though, I am doing very well now.

      Jerry Rice . Hi Jerry, I’ve had a j pouch for 32 years.. Had the colectomy at age 26 and j pouch couple of years later. Now been without a colon longer than with one. I had problems with fistula for a while but past that now pretty much. Keeping the anastomoses open is the secret so that you can empty the pouch easily and completely before work. I have a tapered plastic instrument that I insert every couple of weeks to stretch the anastomoses. I eat my evening meal at least 12 hours before I rise in the morning, paralyse my bowels with Imodium after I empty my pouch in the morning, and eat sparingly during the day.

      Erika Vazquez don’t worry! You will! Your metabolism has to adjust. Your metabolism is still going it’s normal rate for a full digestive system...when you now only have HALF a digestive system. So things are going through you way too fast right now. Absorption is hard. Your metabolism WILL adjust. I ate a little meat with every meal to slow things down. It probably took me 4 months to gain my weight back!

      @@rosierosehealth3138 It's interesting when going on jpouch.org too there's sometimes somethings people can to prevent the problems with butt burn, maybe not within the first year as some do find that the body will adjust to it, but then others don't (not sure myself why it doesnt sort itself out) there's a few things people can take to help prevent especially if its particularly bad without even needing any cream barriers as such. There's a great one I've found from that forum of people with an Ileo Pouch is really a great resource, also then the things like fibre suppliments (soluble though as its that which helps bulk things up as such) and big time don't always listen to a doctors is a big thing I've found myself all around really :)

    • @jeremysmith54565
      @jeremysmith54565 5 лет назад

      For helping stopping the actually alkali based stools as such which is what it quite essentially is, there's things like pepto bismol I think its called sometimes works for some, its to prevent it from yeah eroding skin tissue when it comes out of the anus quite essentially again, like if there's some tears inside the anus (which can cause fissures) that becomes hugely painful, it's like using salt on an open wound its just hugely painful and respect anyone that has problems with that, I have myself but as I am in the adjustment phase still holding back from doing much about it other than really using an upturned shower head after I go to the toilet and then using something like usually an emollient cream as it'll probably dry out which will make it crack and it'll then cause stinging. A typical in the US I think fibre suppliment of course being Metamucil does have a generic name begins with a P but Metamucil itself is hugely expensive over here in the UK, so using a generic form is a heck of a lot cheaper like our own individual brands, it's quite essentially or they are branded seperately as such, doesn't always work but think there's about three different forms that other ones may work for some people. Do find this whole thing really interesting (alaki is probably a better term for that ph scale, you want to be trying to either get the body to adjust itself to as neutral as possible when it comes out, thats what the large bowel would have done, but since you don't have that thats where the problem comes from). This may explain it better than what I am doing here lol jpouch.org home > Forums > J-Pouch Forums > General Discussion > Butt Burn it has this post here: "I was told that butt burn is due to excessive alkalinity in the stool after removal of the colon. The body either adjusts well or not over time. To treat the problem you must identify the problem. I don’t think it’s diet. It’s likely excessive alkalinity in the stool. Have a pH test done on the stool. Then you will have your answer and can treat accordingly. You gotta remove guessing and speculation from the equation, which is what I am hearing here. Let science tell you what’s going on. " Shame I can't directly link it to be fair but its exactly what a user on there said (is essentially almost what I said myself but then they went into more of how the body adjust to it sometimes with some over time, like I am leaving it as such the way it is with me since adjusting it by using a medication might hinder my body from adjusting so it'd prolong the time it'd ake to naturally adjust as such).

      Also there's this huge myth going around well with most of us I'd have thought (I knew this when reading the prescription label on the product itself) when my skins particularly bad I never use ordinary like shower gels or anything of that sort I use what I have been prescribed with which is called Cetraben (there's others of the same kind like a common one being called Oilatum but that tends to be quite expensive if bought privately here they're called really as a replacement for showergels and soaps called Soap Substitutes but it rarely happens now anyway.

      Try adding to your food journal how the food was prepared. I can eat french fries that have been baked in the oven but not deep fried. Sometimes preparation is the key not just the food.

    I think or more kind of relatively adamant almost (it can vary though I'll hazard guess) that pouchitis commonly (especially if its early on and when treated it goes away and eventually or immediately it never comes back, is primarily due to the immune system being rather confused, suddenly you've got this organ thats being used in a way thats not meant to be like that (thus or hence the other problems its like retraining your bowel effectively kind of which can take a rather long time to finish sometimes it may never completely finish it depends. It's really inflammation of the lining of the pouch is what pouchitis really is.

    Really insanely useful tip Rosie is that warm water makes blood circulate better, so it heals much quicker, I just use an up turned shower head myself.

    Hi Rosie, how did you find out about the olive leaves extract working to minimize the risks of getting pouchitis?

    • @rosierosehealth3138
      @rosierosehealth3138 6 лет назад

      Yacir Torres hi! I used to take it when I had Ulcerative Colitis. I read a lot on it and found from other people that it helps to minimize my bleeding. But I also discovered that it’s a natural antibiotic. I was sooo terrified before my surgery..that if I get I get a jpouch that I would possibly suffer with pouchitis. I read so many horror stories about pouchitis and how people would have to be on antibiotics permanently. I didn’t want that. So, since I already had olive leaf extract at home..I decided to take it everyday just in case. I have not had pouchitis yet. Hopefully won’t.

    lol I chuckled when you said "FAP" the way you did. I'm glad that you're still doing well. I've had my j pouch since November 2017. And I've had pouchitis ever since. I'm on a daily dose of antibiotics which makes my life livable. I was going 30 times a day before. (Pure misery) It feels like Im back to my UC days minus the blood 😞. Hopefully I can get off the antibiotics and finally be "normal". Anyways, I hope you continue to get better and stronger. Happy 2 year pouchiversary!!! 😉😃😘

      Gutsy Talk I just have my j pouch 2 months ago and my body still hasn’t adapted to the j pouch im still having stomach cramps and still have a lot of pain where my stoma was how long did it take you to adapt to your pouch

      Yacir Torres after my j pouch surgery I had to be hospitalized twice because of severe pouchitis. Eventually my surgeon diagnosed me with chronic pouchitis and I now take flagyl antibiotic everyday since February. As far as adapting and stoma pain, it took me about 3 months to fully adapt to the pouch. And the pain and scar where the stoma was can take a long time to heal. It's been 7 months for me and it's just starting to fully heal. Just remember as time goes on you will get more better and normal. I'd say give it at least a year to fully heal, but you should fully adapt after a few months. Let me know if you have anymore questions. Take care friend 😃

    Your hair is gorgeous!!! This is great advice. I lost probably 50% of my hair after a bad UC flair. I could never figure out if it was the weight loss, anemia, steroids, remicade, trauma...who knows. But I remember crying in the shower as clumps of hair fell out. Starting to see that again after surgery, so I will definitely be ordering a couple of these! :)

      If it's because of surgery it shouldnt be longer than a week in my own experience really it shouldn't certainly take months for the bowel to get back to normal, a month tops.

    I’m a fellow Kaiser patient and am due for the first of three surgeries Jan 30th. I have been dealing with a pretty constant flare for the past four years now. I’ve been on every drug available, so much prednisone I’m actually 60 pounds heavier which sucks! My humira is no longer working and this past year it has knocked my immune system so low that I’ve been hospitalized 8 times with high fevers of 107 degrees and pneumonia’s and I’ve lost so much blood I’ve had blood transfusions and been literally too exhausted to do much of any living. I’d love to hear back from you hun. Email me or friend me on Facebook if you can. Thanks for your info and sharing your personal experience. It’s very helpful
