First thing I’m gonna do is get two of those giant measuring tapes
I love the way how he squared everything off and also simplified the whole process. Every RUclipsr is blah, blah, blah, blah blah blah blah blah great job
Pounding stakes into ol' Rocky Top😅
Perfect and simple explanation. Thank you.
JUST WHAT I NEEDED. THANKS
That was awesome. Hard on the ears but awesome. Thanks!!! Nowadays you'd probably have a mic, w/ a foam fury thingie on it taped to your shirt. Cool kid! How did you get the location of the first stake (corner)? Are squared up to a road or nearby building?
Nice.
At 20:04 you say that the string needs just to touch the post... I get that... But whats with the string an the 1st post? Theres no way that you can check this alone.... 2 persons are needed to be shure that the string is bearly touching the two posts..... Correct?
He skipped over that a little bit but it can still be done with 1 person. It usually takes 2-3 times back and forth to get the string just barely “kissing” the posts but it can be done alone.

he's a lefty, watch out.... lol
My learning is being improved by these tutorials. Thank you
Very nice! I knew it was going to be good when you laid out all the tools needed to complete the task. Well explained. Good job to both of you.
This was a fantastic tutorial. Thank you so much !
Great explanation I have been using this system for a very very long time me my father and my grandfather the only difference being we would set the profiles level using a water level - the string line tends to sag over a long distance If people take one thing from this video please remember 3-4-5 you can use it for so many applications Really great video
Saya suka video ini, 👍
thank you a lot
Hard watching it, the cows were complaining...feed me .feed me
Great video!
Very good description
what if the fence isnt square tho?
This has been the most people friendly and simple example of a foundation layout that I have seen. Thanks I will be saving this video.
Excellent! Very helpful.
Thank you for this video, it helps me a lot.
Don’t you mean 9’, 12’ (15’) ? Because you said 9’ 12’ (5’).
It's the cows mooing for me...
Verry nice idol...god jobs
great video very, very helpful
If the ground wasn't more or less flat would it be as easy I wonder
This is the best explanation I have ever seen on how to do this. Thank you so much for sharing. This helps me more than you will know.
Amazing explanation. Thank you for sharing this.
Thank you for the great viewpoint of the way you layout your buildings. Very helpful!👍
You ROCK!!!!the best explanation 👏
Measure the corners diagonally and adjust until the distances are equal, right?
You can do that and with a small building that is fine. The method I showed works well for larger buildings or if you want to add an addition and square it to an existing building.
Very useful information thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you so much! Great video, so clear and so helpful. My garden annex will be square!
Good demonstration. I liked the moo music too! Lol!
Someone took me into a field and taught me this when I was 16.ive never set out a new house yet.but I remember and know how to do it.you have a hell of a lot of land there.in the u.k.we call batter boards profiles we put nails in for the wall lines and set them out a lot wider so we can dig the foundations pour the concrete and put the lines back on.then plum the walls down into the concrete from the string lines.simple to set out if you know how. but I met loads who can't do it.im 68 i always worked on and built to someone else's setting out I've seen loads set out out of square.we used to measure from corner to corner check it measured the same.nice simple video thanks.i been building brick houses amongst other things all.my life.you always find the out of square mistakes when you've built the outside. and start setting out the internal walls.
Great video and AJ was a trooper. Thanks
Thank you for the video. Great help
When measuring from the county road, I didn't see a check to make sure you were perpendicular off of the road. But your project probably came out just fine and eyeballing the perpendicular is good enough. It would just throw off your building wall being parallel to the road a bit if not measuring perpendicular to the road for those two measurements off the road.
That’s some hard dirt
Thank you sir this was very helpful
Tyvm
Greatest video I’ve seen helped me so much !
i guess Im asking the wrong place but does any of you know of a method to get back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid lost my account password. I love any tips you can give me
@Willie London Instablaster =)
@Nicholas Arthur Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Nicholas Arthur It did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. Im so happy:D Thanks so much you really help me out :D
@Willie London No problem :D
Best video on building layout principles I have seen. I am currently in training as a carpenter in NZ and found our approach so slow, clumsy, and at risk of inaccuracy. But gosh, your approach is so simple, quick and accurate. Thank you.
Very nice video
Great video. Does the distance of batter boards matter? I am building a 12x16 cabin. Would 6" or a ft be enough distance? Does 3 4 5 convert to inches?
A foot would probably work better for the batter boards. The 3,4,5 rule can be applied to inches or feet as long as you use the same measurement unit throughout the whole equation.
Great explanation for a simpleton like me. You did a great job on how to and just as important why you would use the 3-4-5 rule.
Thank you for taking the time to do this, very helpful!
i agreed with the positive conments of others .....one of the best videos on building layouts
