Blue Lips is Schoolboy Q’s Most Personal and Powerful Album | Blue Lips Album Analysis & Breakdown
I had so much fun doing this analysis :) I really wanted the video to be less than 30 minutes but there was so much content to go through 😭 If I sound a little nasally it's because I recorded while I was sick lol
next analysis will be back to the classics :)

Hello! I'm finally back with another album analysis. Yasiin Bey's Black on Both Sides is a long-time favorite of mine and the first album I think of when it comes to 'thought-provoking,' I thought it would be interesting to see how it compares to a more modern album like Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly. And no, I don't think one album is better than the other lol. 🪐 Follow: s...

This is a really good video
Also so dope you got the Madlib Shades of Blue in the back haha love that
Let's gooo🔥
Thanks for the video and informing the people about this great album and artist. To this day, this is one of the greatest albums ever. His artistry on this project is unmatched. The singing, song structure and lyrics were all on point.
The 2 Best Albums that are like Tpab: Low end theory ( Similar Jazzy/Funky production ) And Mos n Kweli are Blackstarr ( Socially concious bars )
Just found your page and subscribed instantly, hip hop, books and horror movies?🔥🙌🏼
thanks! 🙏🫶
I always wanted to watch content like this on old classic hiphop albums and this whole video was like a visual novel. it would be great if you did one for del the funky homosapien I think hes really underappreciated and seen as a gimmic artist while the artistical integrity of his work is unmatched still to this day just like mos def
Sleepaway Camp is a good 1 also! And yes you could get guns in the 80s at sporting good stores.
Wow! You did amazing with this. I clicked on this without knowing what to expect & you blew me away with your analysis. 👍🏽👍🏽
thanks so much!
@@saraarose you're welcome! You just made a new subscriber 🙂
16:28 thank you!!!!
As a guy that loved the peaceful journey album … this is a good good point.. but then again i was a child when the heavy d and the boyz album came out and i bought it with my own money lol 9:27
I got into the other albums later.. which i did end up loving more than peaceful journey but i feel like its still a good album just not better than ice cube’s and tribe’s album
It was a great year for music! I can imagine it would have been hard to pick a favorite ahaha
I love this! this is excellent so far (still watching at the moment im gonna finish it right now) but why not mention the heavy d solo albums? 8:11
Just wanted to focus more on the group/blue funk as a whole :) Heavy is my fave solo album by him!
The album that always came to mind for me was untitled by nas for it being tpab before tpab
Beautiful breakdown Very informative Thank you
Youre right!!!!!!!!! 24:09
I'm glad i came across this video randomly. Super fresh.
Excellent work Saraa!!! Please keep going!
While some of his stuff can be pretty vulgar, Necro is one of the beat horrorcore rappers. His collab album with kool G rap is great i recommend giving it a listen its called the godfathers once upon a crime.
Thanks! I've listened to a bit of Necro - i'll check that album out
Dope list! Here's some albums you might've missed: C-Bo - Tales From The Crypt (1995), The Flatlinerz - U.S.A (Under Satan's Authority)(1994), the Tales From The Hood OST (1995), Snoop Dogg's Bones OST (2001) 🔥
Oh man how could i forget Tales from the Hood 🤦♀️ Bones is also great. These are great recs, thanks!
Mos def is an insane lyricists. B on Bs lyrics are untouchable till this day.
IMPORTANT VIDEO!!! Props to you for working so hard on this. Love Yassin Bey's lyrics. It's important to teach youngins the history and background especially since now most of the recent released albums get videos like this so seeing a breakdown of this classic record made me happy. Please do a breakdown of The Roots classics too and Lupe's Food and Liquor
John Carpenter's. The Thing for the isolation in Antartica? i think they were at.. For some reason one Christmas my friend's dad had us watch all The Rob Zombie movies for the first time. So now I accosiate The Devil's rejects with The Holidays.
This list is really good. Some reccomendations firat singles Inspectah Deck's Let Me at Em used for a horror film Tales from The Hood before Wu Tang Forever Inspectah self produced the beat and rapped his ass off I only found out about that song from the hulu show. So thanks to them for that one. Inspectah would join with Esoteric and 7L to form Czarfacw, and honestly any Czar project can work for halloween, as they have a similar MF DOOM Ghostface Killah style and full collab tapes. Also Tom Hardy the actor has been rapping since they got locked in by Marvel to do the Venom Vs Carnage Ep. Underground vets and Wu members make appearences throughout the 10 album run. The Games Martians vs Goblins featuring Tyler The Creator and Little Wayne. Just a fire as fuck rap song from beat to how each mc is trying to outevil the other. Am I phycho Tech N9ine feat B.O.B and Hopsin. A early ass song in my hip hop development that goes full serial killer with the beat to how tech sounds like he's dissecting you with his flow. Method Man Statick Selectah feat Pxwer (Method Man's son) Come Get Some. A tie in song for the Ash Bs Evil Dead videogame. Meth is in his grab bag of halloween references and it nerds me out with joy as Evil Dead is my favorite horror franchise. Some Albums Jakki Da Motamouth's God Vs Satan. Jakki is an underground rapper from Columbus Ohio that was in The Weathman and the Mhz. He was tangentially on the same label as a early MF DOOM and rapper Cage who Eminem dissed back on Rolemodel on The Slim Shady LP. Anyways his album is about a wager between god vs satan where there is a wager to see which one Jakki will go with. If you like Big L you will like this man's raw doesn't give a fuck sometimes downright evil storytelling. Cage's Hell's Winter. This album is dark and sad Cage is a phenomenal story teller who matched with mostly El-P of rap duo Run the Jewels with Killer Mike later. The project deals with the effects of drug abuse, and the scars this man's life was affwcted by. Movies for The Blind is another contender as it tells of hos time in the mental hospital. Cage is dope. Mobb Deep Hell on Earth. Just excellent. As a followup to the infamous but even more cinimatically on demon time. Any Flatbush Zombies Album. Halloween was made for Meechy Darko's voice you know it if you know it. The themes of the records are isolation, waking yourself up from the bs world and getting high. I know awful overview of their music. But the erries vibes of the instramentals mixed with how they could ride any beat . They were running in leagues with Pro Era at the time. Any Gangrene album. Alchemist and Oh No (madlib's younger brother. Each record is gritty amazing underground westcoast eastcoast rap, with the concept it's the filthiest music on the planet as no one one wants it. Iv'e been playing all 4 and they are amazing. You Disgust Me might be the one you should check out first. With the muppet stomped out on the cover. Company Flow Funcrusher Plus. El-P is one of my favorite rappers ever. The beats the rhymes are all dystopian futuristic hard jazz prog shit that set the environments as alien and dangerous. Big Juss andr Len should be given credit as well. Like these guys were rapping sci fi novels. I feeal wothout Company Flow you don't get a Vaudville Villian or a Deltron 3030 you don't get a jpegmafia even. El-p took such awesome changes to how he produced. Check out the Def Jux run as it is some of the most fun back to basic hip hop the underground had to offer. Heltah Skeltah Nocturnal. Holy shit this album is one of the best hip hop albums to me ever. Da Rockness Monstah and Sean Ruck Price (riP) have such a chemestry. The album cover is them sleeping like vampire bats with their eyes glowing. The Beats by Da Beatminaz is the chillest coldest shit as all of the beats have a nightime vibe. Heltah Skeltah was apart of the larger Bootcamp Click with Blackmoon, Smif and Wessun, and OGC Originoo Gun Clappaz. Those groups first 4 albums are up them woth the best wu solo debuts but don't get the flowers it should. Hopsin's Raw. Hopson while getting clowned as a pretentious internet rapper transcended that for one project. With Raw while adopting the Saw brand would unleash a pretty steller collection of songs. In the land of the killing, and Nocturnal Rainbows really are great songs. Hopsin really dropped the ball when Knockturnal Madness Dropped which has Death of Slim Shady burying the character vibes. One last single Plug Addicts Flatbush zombies featuring Rza. A instant halloween Wu Tang classic. Woth the strings in the beat and Meechy, Eric, and Zombie at their most mob boss enforcer. Rza's verse is violent and shows he can carry that wildman agression but now controlled. Loving the channel since long form hip hop albums disscussions are usually not talen to the albums you're taking them. I'm always to listen to all era of rap. Like Heavy D and The Boys review is on a album no one on youtube was covering. By the way. What did you think of the Blackstar album No Fear of Time produced by Madlib? because that was somewhat polarrizing even though it's fire, and no one talked about it with any analysis.
W + Based
DAMN shorty you got bars!! Bravo 👏 you're a real one 👑 🤲 Well done.
I've got a recommendation - the playlist "Gawsr - Horror Rap Tracks" which is findable when going through my handle. It has six horror tracks, four in English and two in Norwegian that have English translations in the descriptions.
No icp?
I was waiting for this.
I kind of stumbled across this video. I am 53y/o , I grew up with HipHop, not just on it. I appreciate seeing someone from your generation having so much appreciation for the art form, This is great thank you.
MMLP or MTBMB def belong on here
Jid further explored with Yassin the effects of fame and what it does to a person from wanting it to having it and not wanting it. Yassin's verse is awesome Also he sampled the Aretha Song Mr's Fat Botty sampled for the single featuring 21 Savage
The first Heart song in Kendrick's heart series he's rapping over Umi Says by Mos Def
No Mista Thug Isolation ⁉️😔
Maniac
The Big Day by Chance the Rapper is the scariest Album I’ve heard
Great picks, but Eminem`s Relapse def belongs on this list
"Without warning" is worth mentioning too
I’m from the Midwest. Memphis seems pretty tame when you realize Chicago has the nick name “Chiraq” for how dangerous it is in the hood.
Bastard also would’ve worked for thler
Love it! Great taste
thanks!
not having Relapse on here is a crime imo
Thats my fave em album - he's definitely in the playlist! Underground is a perfect song, it literally sounds like hes raising hell
Don't sleep on DMXs - X is coming or Damien
you have to listen to Children of the corn by single in Halloween or idk wtf you doin
I have exams this week during Halloween, I can't really celebrate hard right now. This was needed, thanks 🙏. Im gonna have to party next week in November.
Good luck on your exams!
@saraarose thanks 😊
I love your picks in this video. One more I would throw in personally is Atrocity Exhibition by Danny Brown. The production is so eerie and haunting all the way through. His vocal delivery seems panicking at times, and the subject matter across every song is absolutely horrific.
Yess, love Danny Brown. That's a perfect rec!
That Viktor album is so great.
What’s interesting about that Gravediggaz album is that, while it sounds like RZA, the vast majority of the production was done by Prince Paul
The self-titled N.O.D album and Dreamland by Blackout are really Memphis essentials, also First Come, First Served by Dr. Dooom (Kool Keith) is one of the most interesting Kool Keith albums
Also Blvdlvnd Rvdix 66.6 1&2 by SpaceGhostPurrp are really good
Great picks, i love SpaceGhostP :)
Black on both sides is one of my favorite albums
I'm so glad you did this video. BOBS is my favorite album in Hip-Hop.
The Bum Diddly Hev was not only a hip hop legend (and the only rapper my mother would listen to without getting offended), but he was also one of the nicest guys in the business. No one can ever say a bad thing about this man. He dated my aunt way back in the day, and I can confirm this. He was also responsible for bringing Puff to Uptown Records. Blue Funk is definitely his best album, from a lyrical standpoint. RIP, my friend.
Climb is one of my favorite songs of all time!!!
