@@rcpilot1103 thanks alot. Glad your enjoying them. It sure is alot of fun and rewarding like you say. I'm using a Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog for my cyclic as the handpiece which is now mounted to the VPforce Rhino. I'll send a link to the video I did on the setup. The collective is an old max flight sticks collective with the anti torque pedals as part of that package. I would probably get a virpal one if I was to get a collective from the start again and plan to upgrade to a virpal which is superior quality. The forcefeedback on the cyclic is something I couldn't go without now as the VPforce is soo good. It's not something you need to start obviously but it's absolutely enhances the experience to the next level. I've had various headsets over the years and they have only got better. Currently I have a Pimax Crystal, which has outstanding visuals and field of view. I run a reasonably high end pc which definitely helps with the sim but you can get a good experience with a mid tier gaming system. Mine is more used for other graphical processing which is why I have to have abit more power.

Hey thank you Simon. I'm not sure how I missed your video on the Rhino, but have since watched it. FF seems like a must according to many fliers out there. I guess I'll just have to get on the waiting list and move forward in the meantime with a non FF cyclic. Looking at this stage Virpil for all three or the Puma X. Both not cheap, so rather a hard decision at this stage. In the mean time you have a fair collection of clips for me to work though :) Cheers David

Simon I am hugely enjoying your NZ back country sceneries, and admire your sim helicoptering skills! The "Deadman's Curve" though, is an advisory flight regime based largely on the pilot's expected reaction time to initiate autorotation. As such, it is the relationship between height and SPEED, not distance. In your video, you are using distance. Although this could coincide with speed in establishing a takeoff profile, your graphic does not indicate a "safe" area in the sky. You are in fact inside the DMC when you stop and turn around at 2:00 at low altitude ! Nitpicking I know, but it's only because I so thoroughly enjoy your generally high quality stuff! Keep up the good work.

Another good vid would be on transitioning. I've found students have a hard time dealing with inflow-roll, flapback, and onset of ETL while remaining outside the dead-man's curve. Knowing how they work and how to minimise the work on the helicopter is good fundamental knowledge.

I'm not familiar with that as I've had no official helicopter training. But it makes sense. In fixed wing we have a list of procedures before commencing aerobatics routines, different of course but similar in that it's an assessment of all the factors. It's something I'll look at learning If it will be of help to others as well. I'll start off simple and work up.

@@simonclark7082 I have to buy anti torque pedals in the fall. I have tried twist grip but it so hard to be gentle with the cyclic when you have to twist the grip at the same time. My collective/throttle is a small stick on the left of my joystick. It is so sensitive and I have really hard time to hover. I couple of mm and you go up or down. I can’t really feel any in ground effect (the bubble) they describe. The only helicopter I have felt it are in the stock Bell 407. I can’t get enough of your videos like the last one when you are landing and taking off. It’s so fluid🙏 I’m excited for 2024 and all of the helicopter stuff that’s coming. Sling loading and rescuing. I really hopes that you are not forced in to any campaign or career. If you haven’t seen the channel UpsideDownWash on RUclips you need to😁 A Norwegian Squirrel (h125) sling loader. He has many incredible videos from his work in the fjords of Norway. The landscape is much like New Zealand they say. One of his videos he shows the cyclic sensitivity of the helicopter. And how stable it is in trim with the friction knob is tight. He adjust the friction depending on what he is doing. When sling loading he seems to have it free and when transporting a little bit tighter. You learn tons of stuff just to watch him work. Like his collective hand rest the thumb on the seat to be more precise. The resting cyclic hand in his leg and so on.
