Great explanations!
Fantastic video and explanation, however this opinion 4:36 aged quite poorly. Just bought my Kobo Libra colour and it seems to have done just that, amazing what humans can do with enough funding and resources
Came here after the remarkable announcement. I wonder how they do it, cause it seams reasonably fast
I want cherry-mx compatible e-ink keycaps
You named she who should not be named.
thank you
You should really lean into the Inky Frame - would love to have an automated way of getting images there (would even be happy to film a build together)
could you please cover Spectra 6?
Why use both black and white particles instead of just black particles and use the fluid they're suspended in be responsible for the white (or visa versa)? It would allow faster instant updates with 0 risk of colour ghosting or need for flashing. So why isn't this a thing?
is e;ink color display as good for our eyes as it is e'ink black n white?
Good one, thanks a lot.
I think the particles for the colored displays all have to have different masses because otherwise the particles would move horizontally symmetrically, as shown in the animation. I think the stacking algorithm would be, that at first it changes the charge so often that the particles with the highest mass are on the right spot and then it does the same procedure suczessively down to the particle with the lowest mass.
Thanks, Gseph!
some years ago, i've seen a video of a guy showing his invention at a convention. It was a color ink display that was able to refresh so fast that it was possible to watch videos smoothly. So i guess over 30 frames. He was explaining his panted and how the technology works quite thorough. I wonder very much what happend to it. Do you know what i am talking about?
This video, according to the title, was to demonstrate the Pimoroni Explorer. However, 80% of the time were instructions on how to install the Build&Compile Tools for Pi Pico. Perhaps in the future you can name the video based on its major content or split multi-content in separate videos. Or give the viewer pointer/index information to the relevant content. Good video.
Good job.. Wish you showed more actual E-Ink displays vs just talking about them. But gives me a direction to google. Thanks.
Have a look at my other video: “Have You Ever Seen an E Ink Display Update This Quickly?”, it shows all the different types of displays and how they update.
Very good video! Can you tell me where I can get these complex all in one round displays? Found nothing online…
Might have to contact E Ink direct for that one I’m afraid, I haven’t seen people like Waveshare selling them.
Haven’t heard of segmented e-ink displays before. That’s a cool idea
Anyone know where / if I could get a custom size manufactured e-ink display? Black text with white background, approx 500x110mm in size?
Can ESL be bought below $5 from anywhere ?
Have a look at the Waveshare website if you’re buying 1 display, or alternatively contact E Ink if buying in bulk, sub $5 is possible if you’re buying enough panels, depends on size of course.
Is it possible to switch the "ink" out for some glow in the dark paints? Sorry if this is a dumb question.
Is it battery from Nintendo Switch joy-con? Isn’t it expensive yo use this batteries?
Imagine an e-ink, that has colours, a super contrast ratio, and 120hz refresh... 🥴
Nice haircut mate
I have really crazy ideas for the usage of E-Ink, but it's a shame that it feels somewhat stifled of a tech. E-Ink the company itself does the most innovation (and costing a lot) while others lag behind. So much to do still...
Would it be possible to front light one of these? Would one be possible to get one to display maps? Would one be able to get one in like 5.5x8.5ish?
all they need to do is make the full update less jaring, imagine a wash from top to bottom... So many researchers would switch to reading articles on e-ink straight away. Sometimes I don't understand why companies can't make a useful product.
Never seen an eInk display in real life, and this is practically the first video I've seen on them
Such a pitty that the audio is garbled garbage. I push through it this time but replace your potato mic if you can.
An E-ink 2-bit display in an old Game boy would be fun. The old Game Boy display is super ghosty too, but E-ink would be so much clearer and look interesting. Maybe we'll have fast enough displays soon.
~ 5:48 - Finally someone who calls frontlight, well, frontlight!
I just stumbled upon your (currently not very active) channel. Have you done, or plan to do, videos on electrowetting (LiquaVista) and interferometric modulator display (Mirasol) technologies?
Hello bazoo513. Not at the moment, no. Mostly because this isn’t my channel, but thank you for asking.
Please turn OFF that audio compressor!! Its absolutely horrible to listen to.
Wow, it almost as fast as the original Gameboy's LCD. Almost.
Is it not possible to have black and white e-ink displays to have their whites be retroreflective? It seems like a good way to increase readability in some cases where one might want an extra-bright display or better visibility in the dark.
I'm sure it's possible, although I don't think a retro-reflective "background" would provide a significant advantage over simply increasing the brightness/purity of the white. Plus by nature of how it would bounce light back I could see it causing unwanted irritation from different brightness values if there's a light source behind the reader.
Can you game on e-ink displays?
Yes
Could you do a review commercial e-ink readers and compare the benifits vs prices?
This is a game changer! No wonder the government hides this from us. Kudos!
I'm a big believer in e-ink. Just imagining stretching e-ink too its absolute limits just sounds amazing to me if someone could pull it off. Just imagine, a blazing fast refresh speed that sips battery; that paired with future battery tech, I could imagine a phone lasting a month or longer without a charge. Watches would be a great place for e-ink also... I've sworn off electronic watches just because I don't want to have 57 different things I need to charge everynight, but I'd be open to an e-ink one. Color is another thing I'm excited to see in E-ink... I've heard whispers of color screens, but not too much. Color would be great also.
That watch display looks pretty cool. I bet they're quite expensive.
how far do you think e-ink will progress in the coming years or decades?? im very curious what someone with expertise thinks, will e-inks ever become good enough to be laptop displays for example? or is it simply impossible despite whatever innovation or technological increase there is.
Check out Boox Nova 3 Color, we're getting close.
Is there any large screen that can be used to show calendar and reminder like a black board? After a stroke I need something that is always on, easy to read and shall not be updated too often, something that is like a cork board or a black board I can mount on a fridge or a door?
Why e-readers are so grayish?
Are there simple e-ink displays that are good for direct outdoor use? Display that works between -25*C up to +40*C in shade plus direct sunshine (that means UV resistant). Water ingress IP65 at least I think. Controlling it can be done from inside device case (controller can be inside) but wiring must be simple (flat ribbon is not robust enough). Black/white, update speed within 3 seconds.
I want to get one of these as it stands and use it as a display in a laptop for coding. I spend so long looking at a screen these days I'm getting bad eye strain, but would need colour for all the different labels or it'd be a bit of a nightmare to read.
Thank you for this video 💚
Love this display tech, but it's still so insanely expensive...
No, I have never seen an E Ink Display update that quickly
This is considered quick ?
