Paulette Goddard's Screen Tests for "Gone With The Wind"
Просмотров 13 тыс.3 года назад
David O. Selznick, with whom Paulette Goddard had signed a contract, liked her work in 'The Young in Heart' and was then thinking of Paulette for the role of Scarlett O'Hara in "Gone With The Wind". Screen tests convinced Selznick and the director George Cukor that Paulette would need coaching to be effective in the role, but that she was promising and she was the first actress who made a Techn...

6 facts about Marilyn Monroe (you REALLY didn't know)
Просмотров 1613 года назад
Marilyn Monroe is one of the most known movie stars of Old Hollywood. Even people who haven’t seen a single one of her movies recognise her face. Today, Marilyn Monroe would have celebrated her 95th Birthday. As a huge Marilyn fan I definitely wanted to honour her as well. There are plenty of videos here on RUclips talking about her tagic life story, but I wanted to do something different. So h...
I would pay money to see Jeffrey Lynn as Ashley Wilkes and Paulette Goddard as Scarlet O'Hara that would have been amazing. But nobody could do as well as Vivien Leigh
Normally I say, "Don't mess with any Chaplin film!!" But just for experimental sake, it is kind of cool to transport us into a past time in a way that immerses one into the moment.
Great interview with many key concepts by Keaton, wonderful to hear his beautiful voice with such clarity of ideas. Thank you for posting this!
Jeffrey Flynn looked more like the man Scarlett would be besotted with than Leslie Howard.
I love Paulette, but Viven was Scarlett and Scarlett was Viven. Period.
Thank you! This is wonderful!
Colour ruins the sentiment.
Come era Bello ! viso stupendo
Worse than Vivien Worse one bilion procent
Sorry, Paulette looked too old and didn't have that "spoiled, impetuous southern girl" vibe. Viv was born for that part. Absolutely knocked it out of the park.
She didn't nail Young Scarlett at all. She looked too worldly. Vivian was able to capture Scarlett's spoiled naivete.
I didn't know there was a color version of this film. ?
GOAT?
A sweet love story. Eleanor, in her own right was an extraordinary woman.
THIS IS FABULOUS! THANKS SO MUCH FOR POSTING IT! Arbuckle and Keaton together are both graceful and hilarious.
Thanks god, David O. Selznick made the right choice with giving the role to Vivien Leigh - the one and only Scarlett!
What a wonderful interview ! THANK YOU so much for uploading for us to enjoy ! So happy that the iconic Buster & the lovely and the lovely Eleanor had such a long & happy marriage ! Very inspirational & heartwarming !
She was pretty, but i dont like her voice, Vivien Leigh, prettier and a much better Scarlett!!!
She was a fantastic actress.
All I can say is I'm glad that Vivian Leigh came along. She was the perfect Scarlett. Paulette Goddard was a little too old for the part and not as beautiful or talented as Vivian Leigh.
No need for rudeness Cukor!
It's called instruction!
@JMelissaMc yes, it is direction. " Takes direction well" was one of Paulette 's strengths.
Theater motivated I'm on us
Paulette Goddard with the right makeup and hair could have easily played Belle but never Scarlett. Vivien Leigh was a naturally refined woman, with good schooling, travel, theatre training; she was ethereal and natural, characteristic only to her. She had flawless skin and coloring, delicate bones, nothing proportionally exaggerated, and the camera loved from any angle... 💙💙💙
Very well said
Finally....someone was able to articulate what was missing. Refinement.....
She would have made a great Scarlett, her natural beauty was just radiant in Modern Times . Great personality and dancer too. 💃
She's wonderful in the B&W scene with Ashley. But in the technicolor scene, she is cute and endearing but not present like Vivien Leigh. Viven Leigh had this intoxicating look in her eyes that commanded an audience, something Paullette was lacking.
Naomi Watts looks a lot like her.
Home movies, not home "video." Video is electronic or electromagnetic recording of moving images. These were FILMS.
Goddards Scarlet was too hard , no innocence and vulnerability.
She looked too old and mature.
the hottest woman i have seen ..oh man ..
Thankful to know he had a loving wife and a happier life in his later years. He deserved it. A wonderful talent🎉❤.
I certainly have a notion to second THAT emotion !!
I felt very bad for Scarlett when Paulette said - "I'm sick of them. I'm tired of them." This is one scene where she outdid the impossible Vivien.
I never liked Vivien Leigh--to my mind, Paulette Goddard was just perfect. Even these few clips are magnificent.
A very tragic ending for such a genius…
Paulette would've made a great Mammy! 😆😉
Thank you. This movie is legendary 🏆
Paulette is beautiful but looks too old for the teenage Scarlett Vivien owned that role
Simping simping simping
Of course ol' Viv was just great. But I do blame her for the ridiculousness of Movie Southern Accents that culminated in the likes of the lovely and great but daft Kevin Spacey. And right here you can see and hear Paulette Goddard do it even better than Alabamian Tallulah Bankhead.
Paulette would have been perfect to play Scarlett in later years, but she didn’t have the youthful quality which Vivien brought to it… the epitome of the brat princess. Paulette was too womanly, and Scarlett needed girlishness.
Such a delightful visit with Paulette and George!
didn't the Chaplin Office come after you yet? it looks far too lush and sunny....for the dream scene an argument can be made for colour but certainly not for the rest of the film..Chaplin could easily have made colour films from The Great Dictator onwards but he didn't..respect that
A great interview with a wonderful performer. Buster was the best.
Vivien Leigh had class, Paulette did not. On dirait une paysanne endimanchée.
Thank for for sharing this wonderful video. 😊
Who needs words. Silent film - the universal language.
Ain’t nobody got time to read
I met Elenore Keaton in the early 1990s at the Silent Movie Theater in Los Angeles
Wow, what a treasure ❤
Paulette is more like Scarlett when she's being herself than when she's acting - more playful and flirtatious.
Nope never could have been the true Scarlett
Wow. She was truly great. Why wasn't she a HUGE star?
She was with Charlie Chaplin and it was never entirely sure whether they were married or living together or common law. Back in that day that was a huge detriment to a career.
Burgess Meredith said Paulette had a sexiness and vitality in person that didnt transfer to the screen
Only 2 other ladies came close to Vivian Leigh....Paulette Goddard and Betty Davis. I think Leigh was the best choice certainly.
I'm in love with an actress from a hundred years ago.
“Those the odds” as they say
