Back in the 90’s and around then, the legend of Madam Koi Koi was popular in slightly varying forms across secondary schools in Nigeria. Madam Koi Koi was said to be the ghost of a wicked teacher who haunted dormitories, hallways and toilets in boarding schools at night, and in day-schools she haunted toilets and students who came too early to school or left too late. So on the 31st October 202...

Have you seen 76? That film starring Ramsey Noah and Rita Dominic? As representations of history, which movie between that one and this one (which I'm yet to watch) did a good job of telling their story?
@@walterude6323 76 is light years ahead of this one. Better acting, better historical accuracy and fewer holes.
I never knew Nollywood could be this creative!

I totally agree with all you have said. The first thought that came to my mind while watching your review, was about the police investigation which they didn't show in the movie and I'm glad u mentioned it.
Thank you. Glad we made the same observation
I love your explicit explanation of art and its usage in the movie. I'm really glad Mrs Funke Akindele took in the criticis from her movie 'battle on the buka streets' in while casting this moving. She made sure this time that anyone handling the character of each tribe, is from the tribe or knows much about the language of the tribe and not just because the person is good. And your review was on point. Kudos Nna
Thank you for your input. Yes, Funke improved on her flaws. Kudos to her.

"Art was allowed to be art" 🙂
The biggest positive for me.
Chairman is my favorite cast and shinene too. The unity among tribe is so commendable. How funke united her children irrespective of their behaviours is beautiful to watch too.
It was Jedidah’s illness that United her children. But I love the unity.
Great movie so to say ... I do selects movies to watch , i do not regretted watching this well packaged and 100percent entertained 🙌

Hehehehe. It’s a popular movie. But take your time. There is no pressure.
The movie was awesome and your analysis spot on! Infact, your analysis on unification of various ethnic groups in Nigeria came to my mind while I was watching. However, I think the movie ended abruptly - making it seem like it has a second part.
I believe it’s now a trend to end movies with resolutions not entirely unravelled. Maybe it’s a way to leave some things to imagination or to leave room for possible sequels.

Don't you think the movie was over hyped?
Maybe a bit as with any movie with widespread appeal. But it’s a solid movie by any standard.
The movie is not over hyped ... It deserves some accolades both internationally and domestically..
Over hyped..I don't think so. Action Humour and so much coordination..they deserve a resounding applause.

I noticed the similarities with A Man Called Otto. But the movie made sense anyway.
You’re right
I loved the movie. It's very calming to watch.
Glad you love it.
Well spoken. Your review was on point and the movie was solid but made a few mistakes. I wondered why they made timi some sort of super man and yet it didn't reflect in the later part of the story. Being under water for so long, a prodigy, drinking bleach and not dying, trying to commit suicide and the gun not going off. It was not really something I understood.
I suppose they wanted to infuse some spirituality into the movie, but not in a very conspicuous fashion.
Wanted to see your review to know if I will pass on the movie. Great review!
Thank you, Ikolo
In-depth review, I will find time to watch
I hope you enjoy it when you see it.
I enjoyed the commentary in the beginning, and I felt this rage within me. Yes, everything you said was on point. I was also a bit confused and wondered how the sister found him since they ran without even knowing where they were headed for. The snake scene was also unnecessary... Thank you, Daddy Jide!
The first part of the series was better than the second part. I do not look forward to a third part.
Lol. The first part was truly better. But I hope a third part -if it comes- will be much improved.
How true is this madam koi koi story sef..Did it really exist then?
It is a legend -a story handed down from the past but not verifiable.
I'm a teacher. I know a lot of students who thrive in mischief but always topped their class. Some need very little effort catching up school work. So it's very plausible that such students are always on top. Asides this, this review is really cool.
Thanks for your comment. I was a teacher too. I knew about students who did little to be among the best in their classes. But students who don’t pay attention in class and don’t read on their own can never win inter-school competitions three years on the bounce. You see those students that win Cowbellpedia? They read like their lives depend on it!
Not to sound tribalistic though but I have always thought the madam koi koi tale happened predominantly in the boarding schools of the south eastern states? Never heard it happened in the west too Also I feel the character of the mother superior wasn't properly stretched/ explained. She appeared so mysterious and shady, as if there's a big secret behind her or something but at the end, it was practically nothing So many flaws I noticed but they tried sha
I think the Madam Koi Koi legend spread through Nigerian boarding schools eventually. But you’re 100% correct about the character of Mother Superior.
Well except the other students they are competing with are not smart and this makes them winners.
Very unlikely. All the competing schools can’t dundees all through.
Nice one sir. I love the movie though.
Thank you. Many people love the movie. You’re not alone.
Good review. 👏🏽

Please subscribe as well
Good work as usual. The acting was superb even if I felt the story was watery a bit. It was said to be a horror movie but I'm yet to catch the horror. Maybe in future episodes. As for the legend of the story, it's supposed to be a school legend, my question is how it left the school and was more in the town. All in all its still a very good movie. For now it's still a solid 7/10.
The title of the series is a misnomer because the Madam Koi Koi horror as portrayed in the series has little to do the school as recorded in the real legend of Madam Koi Koi.
PS: there were actually mixed boarding secondary schools owned by the church. But the school in this series is more likely owned by a congregation of Reverend Sisters, and it’s perhaps strange to see such secondary school being mixed.
I think Uche Montana qualifies as A-list in this sector of Nollywood though. And Chidi Dike is a strong up-and-comer. I agree that the execution of the story was pretty sloppy and it was improbable that a woman seemingly as intelligent, educated and savvy as Sia was meant to be could have conducted a long-distance relationship for a year with no real video calls (or did she say they DID have video calls but sounded different in those calls?) That really made her appear naive and dim witted.
You know… I disagree with you on the grammatical errors thing. This is something a lot of people have criticized over the years and I’ve always disagreed with it. If you are interested in seeing “realism” in Nollywood films, the you have to face the fact that most Nigerians speak improper English in real life. Why shouldn’t the movies reflect this? (I mean, unless the character is someone who is supposed to know better…) The phone thing is a good observation that I never thought about. I think that is probably just an acting convention that has been carried over from the days of analog phones and people think it just looks good dramatically… but when you think about it, it makes no sense at all does it? 😂 The age of cell phones has really curtailed a lot of the dramatic potential of phone conversations… like slamming the phone at the end of the call to make a point! The hair and makeup thing? Sigh… I kind of give that a pass, as I have always said that Nollywood style developed from the world of telenovela with its emphasis on glamour and a heightened, exaggerated version of reality. Is it realistic? Nope../ but I guess it is not trying to be 🤷♂️
The problem with the grammatical blinders is that the actors speak English in movies as their first language being translated to English. A bit like Okonkwo words written in English in Things Fall Apart, but we know it’s a translation of what Okonkwo says in Igbo. So the English should be error free, unless in the case of an actor cast as one who can’t speak English.
@@NnamdiJuddy But "Nigerian English" is sometimes recognized as its own dialect, which when compared to the King's English would probably be seen as full of errors... Hell, even modern English people hardly speak "proper" English these days unless they're higher class...
I agree with most of your observations, but there is one particular criticism you made that I’ve also heard from other people and I wholeheartedly disagree with it. It has to do with people talking about how various aspects of Denola’s character are “too Hollywood” (or “too Korean”) and hence are “unrealistic” in a Nigerian context. To that I say: characters like that are also “unrealistic” in America or Korea. Those kinds of special assassins don’t exist in the real world in general but they are stylized inventions to make movies more interesting. So just enjoy them, yknow? I mean, an argument could be made that we should in that case develop our own indigenously stylized imaginary assassins rather than just wholesale copying… I’d agree there. But I just don’t think “realism” is a valid consideration here. Anyway, just discovered your channel and your videos look good. Subscribing!
Your view is warmly appreciated 😄😄 Thank you for subscribing 🙌🙌
