Harbor Freight Wood Chipper - Setup and Test
The intimidator is a mud tire...youre in the woods. Completely wrong application. Go into the mud and do the same comparison
Somebody please buy that man a beer 🍺.. love it💯
I got a set of bighorns (used) 25x10x12 rears, 25x8x12 fronts.. any idea why the front ones are 1-1.25” bigger than the rears??
@cd1772 if they are used, I would suspect it's due to tire wear. The rear ones may have worn more due to wheel spin.
@@matty-0 they’re used but you can tell it’s very very lightly. Nowhere near worn enough to create a 1” difference in the front and back 🤷🏻♂️ it’s just an oddity I guess haha Thanks for the reply
Man, nice but so much for the new tire's !
Hey, Joe-Safety: Did you pull the spark plug wire before you started fuckin' around with those exposed blades? Do I really have to explain "why?"
China sure makes a lot of junk!
Always buy the extended warranty, it usually pays off.
How wide is it? Will it fit through a conventional door?
\m/
Hey Matt. I’m not sure if you will ever see this but if so I would love some help/feedback. So I have a 06 g35 coupe and the fuse link fuse with the following 50/30/40 Amp fuse more so the (40amp) fuse blew/overloaded, after changing out with a new one. I have a aftermarket most likely Chinese fan, could that be the issue as to why it’s overloading the fuse and bubbling the fuse? As the fan worked for a few days and then blew the said fuse a few days later.. If so can I just replace the fan motor or should I replace the whole shroud? I’ve been chasing this problem for a few months now as it’s overheated a tad bit sitting in traffic! Any help would be helpful!
@@duesa2203 the fans could be the problem for sure. It sounds like their is a short to ground somewhere. You can check the fan wires with a meter and see if any of the legs have continuity between them (they should have resistance, although I don't know how much). It could also be that the wiring to the fan is damaged somewhere and shorting out on the frame or something metal, so that might be worth checking. If I diagnosed a faulty fan motor, I would probably swap the whole fan assembly. I know you can replace the motors, but you have to pull the assembly out for access. Good luck with getting your issue fixed and let me know what you find!
Good video 👍🏻 but you look scared when your feeding it tho 😂 it won’t bite you
Hey now, it was my first time! Now I've lost my fear of it and I'm clearing jams with the damn thing running. Hopefully the camera is rolling when I sacrifice a finger to the harbor freight gods!
They are a POS. I bought one. I would barely chip anything. It plugged up 3 times in 30 minutes with barely feeding it. I dumped a small handful of it's own chippings into it, and it plugged. I took it back and bought one for my tractor.
I think it's a fine machine for the price point and works well enough once you know its limits; but there is no way I would ever put up with this machine if I had a tractor!
@matty-0 It was $400. The 3pt chipper was $1300 to $2500. It's a horrible machine. It wouldn't chip a small handful of its own chippings.
You misspelled leaf
My phonetic humor is lost on some, I suppose.
a double din radio is what you need, good deal on the car! air in the cooling system will also cause overheating on these VQ engines
It's on order - can't wait to get it sorted out, so stay tuned! These cars are a total pain to bleed air from the cooling system, but I'm pretty sure the issue is the fans. It stays in normal operating temps when cruising without any issues. I've had air in my 350Z before (every time I drain and fill it), so I know that pain.
cool day!
@@tayyy1 thanks tay!
Cute tool/toy, but not worth the money and effort. I prefer to burn, much easier and fun!
Oh yes, it's much easier to burn, but I would have a never-ending bonfire going with all the wood out here! It's a lot of work, but the wood chips are useful for mulch and composting. If you need ground cover for landscaping, driveways, or compost for gardening, your work is rewarded with this little machine.
Great video. I was looking to tackle this job. Now that I have watched this video, I will be able to do it without any worries.
@GCampz39 glad to hear that. Just take your time and be safe. It's not too difficult and the car should ride like new after.
If one uses it for weeds, make sure they're dry,, bone dry!
I don't know why, but I am curious of how this thing would handle carboard. Maybe even tire chunks...
I have this machine, it’s been OK slow and takes awhile to learn what it will and won’t do. My main comment is don’t loan it out , unless you don’t mind if it comes back broken. They will not be as careful as you are. Mine came back with a broken shaft. I didn’t explain enough about its limitations and to big of stuff was fed in at the top. It was past warranty and I don’t think it covers abuse anyway. 1/2” and no bigger at the top.
@chuckstahn2696 good advice. It's tempting to overload that brush hopper and i have probably been over the 1/2" mark a time or two.
Used to work at a trailer dealership. As the happy customer was about to leave we gave them one last piece of advice, "If you love it, don't loan it.".
It's unfortunate that so many of these machines don't at least have a bearing assembly to support the crankshaft on the non engine side of the grinder / chipper. Bent and broken crankshafts are not at all uncommon on these and similar directly coupled chippers. Belt drive from the engine to a bearing supported chipper assembly is much better when it comes to shock loads.
That's a lot of work for twigs. Ugh!
I have Maxxis bighorn’s on just about every unit I run in the woods, sand and a little mud. I have tried many other tires, but the light weight and the ability to do just about anything as long as you don’t high center the vehicle. Plus at really high speeds these tires are very predictable more so than anything else I’ve tried. I understand, they don’t look like cool squared off tires of your truck. But trading reliability, predictability, and go anywhere do anything for the sake of the cool looks. No thanks.Bighorns for me.
Great video. Noticed your wood is already dried out. Wondering how well it works with freshly cut wood at the same size?
@NuStreamzMedia fresh wood goes through reasonably well. I have found that green branches can overwhelm the brush hopper side of the machine, causing it to clog at the discharge port. Going easy on how quickly I feed green branches seems to make it manageable. I also noticed that letting fresh cut brush sit for 3-4 days really cuts down on clog potential.
great job, Matty O! Best video of: this chipper BY FAR and I just tagged along building my own 212cc right there with ya. 🤙🏽
Thank you for the kind words! Be safe and enjoy mulching those branches!
I purchased this earlier this year and it's been a great addition to my property. The cord lock disappeared on mine as well. Ordered a lifetime supply for $5 online. Safety glasses are a minimum! I've been wearing arborist headgear lately (mesh face shield and hardhat) as it throws a lot of chips from the hopper. The rubber guard in the hopper sags over time allowing more chips to ejected. Also, good call on prepping the material. I've had to clear a few jams due to skipping this step.
I thought about buying one of the Predator Wood Chippers, but I am going to hold off and purchase a PTO model for my tractor....there are a few options out there, that I think would better serve me.
Very informative. Thank you for taking the time to make this vlog. Much appreciated.
I was impressed as it seemed to do a really nice job. I also liked that it started first pull.
Hello, Are you interested in testing our products? We would like to invite you to test the Mid-Panel Soft Rear Window for your Honda Pioneer 1000( if your car year is 2016+
I just got mine this evening. It came in a wood crate inside the box. It started on the first pull. It felt like I was trying to spin start a WWI Bi-wing. It sound like a small car engine. Pretty good for a 6.5 hp.
I've had mine for about a year now and it's been running strong. It's about time to sharpen the blades (I feel like the machine is not feeding itself as eagerly as it used to), but other than that, I've had no real issues. Watch out for tree debris collecting on the engine/exhaust. I haven't had any fires, but my governor got jammed up with fine wood particles, causing the RPM's to climb. I caught it before it chucked a rod.
@@matty-0 When you sharpen the blades, make a how-to video. I guess it's pretty good to just blow it all off after using it. I tested it out a little last night. It seems to be pretty strong. I was actually impressed with it. It sure does have a beefy pull start on it. I imagine it's because of the blade's weight.
@@CombatDoc54 I will definitely make a video!
@@matty-0 Read somewhere that dude has had his Predator since '19 and uses an Ego blower after every use to wedge out small particles/chips/wood that might otherwise build up around cavities, joints and such and says he's never had any major issues with service
That things ready to take off a hand.😂
It's no joke!
I'd like to see what's involved in sharpening. My old Craftsman was a real PITA to sharpen the cutting edges.
I'm going to take a crack at sharpening the blades soon - stay tuned!
I have run all sorts of tires on my Teryx4. I am now running 32" Intimidators up here in Alaska and absolutely love them for where I ride. Lots of rocky mountain trails, river crossings, deep mud and soft muskeg and they do really well in all of it.
These tires are growing on me for sure. I still wish the compound was a little softer for gripping on hills, but I'm learning how to work around that.
I have 26' Bighorn OG's on my 2020 Rubicon 520 DCT. But I also have a 2020 Grizzly 700 that has stock tires and i'm debating on getting these in 28's or Bighorn OG's in 27. I love my bighorns overall on the Rubicon but i wish sometimes i had something a little more aggressive. And then i wonder do i want the same tires on both ATV's? So I'm leaning towards the intimidators. But i change my mind constantly lol. Good videos!
Great video man 🍻
Do the branches need to be dry and seasoned, or can/will it shred wet, green wood?
It definitely has an easier time with dry stuff and I would say if you let the branches sit for a few days, you'll have an easier time. It can do green stuff, but be ready to go easy with feeding, especially leafy stuff. The discharge port loves to get clogged with green leafy stuff.
Have you tested this with “animal bones” yet ? How do you think it might stack up against something like 200lbs of something meat like?
No, friend. You'll have to make that video!
@@matty-0 LMAO 😂 good video, I just want something I can make my own wood chips and mulch with,
@@sonnyg960 I don't think this little machine will pull off any Fargo stuff. That being said, I am not willing to test with my own appendages!
Wife giving you trouble again?😅😂🤣
@@shuster1921 hahahaa if that had been the fate of my ex-wife I might be remarried by now, bitches be loving psychotic murderers… at least on TV…
The 2.0 is a lighter tire. You have to take the weight into account especially if you have a smaller bore machine.
Bought this machine and used it twice over the course of a year. 3rd time we used it, the massive weight of the cutting head was too much for the 1" crankshaft and it snapped right off. Now looking for a machine that is clutch driven or at least has a crank support on both sides of the cutting head.
I'm surprised I haven't had the same results yet. I've stalled my engine many times now, and I'm ready and waiting for some catastrophic failure. There are more durable machines, but not in this price segment!
Looking for a machine with the clutch is going to be difficult I think, most of these are direct drive unfortunately. Maybe if you can find a larger model that is belt driven you may find that it has a clutch, if not, at least the belt would slip if the chipper head gets jammed.
Hearing protection is mandatory, also.
nice .. very helpfull, it may help repair mine
Just got mine, only things I had to attach was the wheels, stand and handle. Also, did yours come with a rubber shroud for the top hopper?
There are some rubber flaps for the top hopper. They don't do a whole lot, unless you are standing behind the machine. I have grown accustom to pieces of wood flying at me whilst operating this little bundle of joy.
Just got this, ,can't get it to start
Silly question, but did you turn the fuel and ignition on? Also, make sure there's enough oil - I'm pretty sure the engine has a low oil ignition cut.
You must want a job at Harbor Freight. You sure have it talked to death.
Are they hiring?
The Harbor Freight Wood Chipper offers a comprehensive review and detailed insights.
I wondered where Steven Seagal has been in his retirement.

Yes, definitely a good idea to do a visual down the chute and make sure nothing has moved in.
"if it fits, it shits" You know when it rhymes, it's a fact
If rhyme it do, it must be true...
... a really great job! Where did you lift the Mini for the jack stands in the front? Thank you!
Thanks for the kind words. I used the front frame rails on either side. There are two large bolts you can use for a reference visible through the plastic splash shield. Those bolts should be connected to the subframe. You can remove the splash shield to confirm you're on the subframe if you are unsure.
