Hi mate definitely rust had that a few times working on “stored “ bikes comes out for ages - love your work regards Jim
Yep, swingarm needs to come off, another job for MOTORESTO Enjoyed the video Tom and RIDE SAFE OUT THERE!
That is a shame, she was very nice when she left you a few years back, now 😢
I know how you feel, last year I made a SLR650 that stood 3 years in the rain. Was a mess as well. 😢😢 Videos on my channel.
Don't be too upset at the owner. Life happens to us all. They should be totally transparent with you though. Great channel and I always enjoy your videos. A lot of $ and time to get this back on the road. Surprised the owner is doing that.
not a nice one to do.
All of that hard work you did on transforming that "Circus" monstrosity into a decent looking bike.........WASTED, no wonder you peed off, I know I would be too Tom. Best of luck getting it fixed.......AGAIN!!!!!
Enjoyed the video, Tom. Hope it all works out like you want/need. Thanks for sharing and RIDE SAFE OUT THERE!
Boy I envy you Tom, maybe one day I can get to play with all that cool stuff. Still trying to get my last year in at FD, but then have to pay full price for medical insurance for wife and I until I hit 65.
Very interesting video Tom. I saw Ichabod come into the shop, was he reminding you to get in the house before your wife got mad? 🤣
Im looking at a 2003. If I needed to get this done, approximately how much would it cost?
A very needed masterclass since my VFR is acting up a lil bit. Thanks a ton 😄
Im a new subscriber. I love this channel. Great sense of humor
I found your video when my Kobalt compressor, which came with a 3 year warranty, failed in this manner. I bought it 3 years and 1 month ago. The Chinese have this down to a science.
Seems if I had your tools and expertise, I'd chuck that crap part and make a new one out of good USA steel. Just sayin'.
I LOVE YHIS CHANNEL!!
Thank you! My Honda Ruckus was doing the exact same thing and your video was very helpful.
Very good and entertaining too. Well done.
Another great video tom! can’t wait to get down there and enjoy some riding out to say hello- and watch the sunset for the first time on the Gulf Of America 🇺🇸!! make the weather nice for us at least for a day or two the first couple weeks of february! It’s supposed to be in the single digits here in virginia this weekend.
Where can I buy some needle dick pliers? Great vid.
Love the machining videos. Something about machining metal is very satisfying.
In french please?
french fries maybe.
Tom, I enjoyed the video . Nice work. Thanks for sharing and look forward to the next episode. RIDE SAFE OUT THERE!
Excellent physics lesson thankyou! When reinstalling the hydraulic one. It's normal to turn the engine in the normal direction until it pops out?
That's what the manual says... I try to follow the service data as close as possible.
great video, i just bought a 1987 HONDA Magna VF 700, it was parked for a long time i got it running and when i drive the bike taking off is good when i give it a little throttle i hear a thonking noise once i take off it drives good, but when i slow down in 1rst gear, give it a little gas it does it again, that thonking or clanking noise after watching your video i think thats what i am hearing the bike only has 19,000 miles what are your thoughts
Hard to say. May be U Joint related, but with only 19K it'd be hard to believe there's an issue with the bevel gears in the final drive on the engine side, but it's possible. Check the engine mounts. 1st gear provides a lot of torque and can move the engine easily. If not that, def check the final drive up to, and including the rear end.
Wow. I think you just solved my problem. I noticed those tangs yesterday and wondered why they were there. Lol
Replace.
Awesome video 💪
I have taken the carbs from the left side several times. That is without disturbing the coolant bypass. You do need to remove the thermostat cable and shroud from the right side so there's room to angle the carbs as they come out from the left. Regarding the throttle cable I use a couple of long Ampro 10mm wrenches that angle ¼ of a turn each time... patience.
That's interesting. The service manual also mentions the possibility of loosening the engine mounts and moving the engine to them to come out the right side, I'm wondering if slight variances in the frame jig and manufacturing allow some to come out the left and others to simply not go that way, like mine. Regarding the cables, yes I can get at the nuts, definitely can reach them while installed; but getting the feruled ends back in with them installed, there's no way my fat fingers could do that. Cheers.
Nice show!
Can you add the Handy Video you saw for the lubricant and rebuild. Thanks
ruclips.net/video/fdATN2Ej1EY/видео.html. I'll add it to the description.
I’m just curious why you don’t adjust them while it’s running? Typically motorcycles are synchronized while running. Hum?
Good question. You can't get at the adjusters for #2 and #4 at all, with the engine running, even with my Motion Pro 90 degree adjuster tool. They are simply not accessible. I have updated videos on doing these carbs again, they're my most recent ones in the playlist. I mentioned it there but did not in the video you commented on.
Hello, went through the carb, great video thank you. Put back together and it started right up. Sputters when I get on it at about 30mph. Long story short pulled petcock and the screen filter was rotten and broke off into the tank. So been "rinsing" the tank with fuel and filter screens. Lots of debris. Rinsed with about 12 gallons of gas and still debris comes out. Is there a faster way? This will take forever. Thank you. 2005 Honda VTX 1300.
Depends upon what you mean by debris. If it's rust, you have three choices: some sort of acid, EvapoRust or a professional gas tank restorer who uses commercial equipment. If it's not rust, then I'd try acetone. A disclaimer first: this is dangerous using any chemicals and you need to wear PPE and work in an appropriate area. Fuel tanks are a pain in the backside when they're rusted up inside, which is what I suspect you have. If your tank is really bad, I'd consider replacing it with a better one or send it out to a shop who does this work. Believe me, you'll be thanking yourself if you do. That way, they can clean and seal the tank. There's a place in Tampa not too far from me, it's about $400 bucks to do a tank this size. Anyway, that's the short answer. Check RUclips for other folks videos on doing the actual tank wash if you so choose to do that yourself. Thanks for watching, cheers.
@@MotoRestoFL visually from the top there is so slight, small spoty rust. I used an endoscope to locate and retreive the broken screen filter from petcock. During that mission I did not see any rust. I believe what I'm dealing with is the debris from the other half of the filter that broke off and went into the tank. There are many pieces coming out with each flush that I do. Thank you.
@@MotoRestoFL I cleaned the tank the best I could. I put new plugs in it. It starts right up same as before. Before I went through the carb which looked totally fine, the air/gas was set at about 1-7/8 turns from closed. As I recall it had some backfire when releasing throttle and coasting. (Been awhile since I rode it.) Plugs were pretty much black so maybe too rich. I then set it at 1- 1/2 and it still sputters/hesitates at about 30mph accelerating. It's now set at 1-3/4 and still hesitates when you're on it starting at about 30 mph. I think if I slowly accelerated I could get through that... I also pulled the choke out slightly to see if it would improve acceleration or make it worse. It was worse. Any thoughts on which way to go with the air/gas screw? Thank you.
Fill tank with white vinegar and let it set overnight. Will remove rust.
@@dwightoliver952 Thank you very much
Thanks for the video 👍 All the best for 2025
Thanks for the analysis! Could you help me with something unrelated: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). What's the best way to send them to Binance?
Biance doesn't publish it's address, so I can't offer any suggestions on how to send it something. Whoops. Beyonce. My bad.
Great video again very informative and detailed to many others out there miss out the important info ,,, keep up the good work Dave in the Canary Islands Spain
Thanks Dave. Wow, Spain! Tell me, does the Rain in Spain stiff fall Mainly on the Plain? lol
Thx for the reply 😂 actually we are quite lucky here almost never rains and average all round temperatures of 24c .. great for bikers like us 🥳 but a nightmare trying to get spair parts 😤. I bought a used set of carbs for my Z1 1975 from the states .. 2 months ago customs still fooking around with the paperwork… .. chat again soon happy new year don’t work to hard 🎉🙏
Love the front suspension action on gear change and braking 👍
Thanks. Not bad for a garage hack job with a 120v AC Mig welder.
Nice work Tom!👌 Thanks for the tips🙏
Merry Christmas 😎👍
..... And 2 more lessons.... The diaphragm trick and the annealing on the crush washers. This video is the gift that keeps on giving if you're a V 4head like me.
Thanks. It's actually better on copper washers like the ones on oil lines and such, they take a lot more heat and don't melt as easily... Allen Millyard just showed this as well on his last Norton Nemesis video. Old trick but it works. Cheers.
So glad I saw this. The 1000 Interschleptor I'm working on right now has the binding choke issue and now I know why. I was afraid to dissaemble the enricher fingers when I did carbs . I'm slowly accepting the terrible thought of having to pull those carbs again when bike gets back from paint to fix the issue ... Doh!
Thanks. Like I said on camera I hope it helps someone because I've been screwing it up all this time and just figured the dang thing out. lol
Nice job on the carbs and wiring. Bike sounds like it'll haul the hay. Tom, enjoyed the video, thanks for sharing and RIDE SAFE OUT THERE!
Pulls well, but it was ok before, just broke up a time or two here and there, but that annoys the heck outa me.. lol. They needed to be gone thru, no question... all that surface rust just really got my crawdad in a knot. Things like that just irritate the creosote out of my chimney. Cheers.
Nice video, always something to do on the old bikes.
You bending to much
At my age, if I can bend at all, it's a good day. Cheers.
Designed to get you out of a spot and into a better spot 😅
Yep. Although, my buddy has ridden many a tire down to nearly the cord with a plug in the thing and without one single hiccup.
