I love how people sometimes say Matt is drunk or high, but that’s just how he is. They’ve said many times they never drink before a performance. It’s disrespectful to the audience and really bad for singing.

To be fair, I read on Chris's biography that he did have an alcohol problem and frequently was onstage under the influence, but he is so good that noone realized. Awesome band...the best.

Not Drunk. Pissed yeah I can buy that but not drunk. If you get drunk and you play guitar coordination to play the instrument goes out the window, and thats pretty much only alcohol. There is a medium you can reach with a few drinks that will calm the nerves but not leave you drunk which is what most aim for if they are shy or nervous. But its hard to be in that zone as alcohol is unpredictable. Personally if performing live and if you are nervous a couple hits off a joint is the best thing. Will mellow you right out but leave your coordination intact and is the reason people can function on weed but not so much when drunk.
