hey man, don't feel bad about losing that fish. I hooked my biggest tarpon at the beach by accident, I was using a lighter tackle like you. That tarpon almost spooled me in 1 minute. Btw, It also proves the charm of kayak fishing. Lighter tackle still got some chance to land big fish. You are doing a great job!

Would have broken off 20# line too. Powerful fish. Keep using 8-10# line. Its so much easier/fun. You get more fish overall.

Peddling back out with a big one on will definitely reduce mangrove escapes. I think the fins, in motion, will keep them away better, too.

I found a pod of baby Tarpon this weekend and only managed to get one jump out of one before it threw the hook but I’m still thrilled about it! Now that I know they’re there, I’ll be back with DOA Terroreyz next time or some other lures more suited to Tarpon. We’ll see how next weekend goes
