    It seemed to me that you were moving too quickly that's why so many fish got spooked. Probably slow down and cast twice as much as you were. You could have been giving up on an area too quickly. The other issue that we're all having is the water temps are cold and the fish are lethargic. Me personally I don't like water that clear and that shallow because the fish have way too much of an advantage. Seems like if they get a good look at your bait they know something is not natural about it. On the flip side if you move it quickly so they don't get a good look they don't want to chase in cold water temps. I'm no expert but I like to find three to six feet of water with moving current. In Louisiana it seems they sight fish reds all year but the Florida fish are way more spooky in that clear water. Louisiana has muddy brown water and the fish rely more on vibration and smell than sight. My strategy lately has been downsizing my bait to a zman slim swim 3 inches or less and making sure my swimbait hook or jig head is completely hidden as much as possible. I also think 8 lb braid and 10 lb fluorocarbon leader is smart in ultra clear water this time of year. FYI I've had better success fishing in low populated areas and not highly populated cities or towns. I'm on the West Coast of Florida and the fishing north of Dunedin causeway is much better because the fish see less pressure from boats and fisherman.

    • @fishingmilesaway
      @fishingmilesaway 9 дней назад

      Thanks @JP-mh4cs , I definitely agree with all your points. I've since downsized all my gear and lures and have had way better success. I think I'm going to do a lot more traveling around Florida this year to try to target some of the less pressured areas. What species do you target in your neck of the woods?

    • @JP-mh4cs
      @JP-mh4cs 6 дней назад

      I target reds, snook, and trout. Right now with it being so cold I'm mainly just targeting trout. I have fished from shired Island down to Tampa Bay and in the keys and I'll be honest the best fishing spot I've experienced is putting in at the Yankeetown boat ramp. The river vessels of the withlacoochee River going into the Gulf are unbelievable. 30 to 40 inch snook everywhere. No boat or fishing pressure up there at all. Everything south of anclote river has way too much fishing pressure.

    Great video! Mirrodines are definitely great lures you can fish all day with. One of my favorites In response to what you’re talking about around the 10-11 minute mark about leeward or windward areas, I’ve sometimes found some VERY good bites on the most windward sides of mangrove islands, seawalls, and rock piles where baitfish are being blown in and forced up against that structure where they’re almost helpless to large predators. In those situations though I usually need a pretty noisy lure that gets a lot of attention. Chugging topwaters or ones with really loud rattles, popping corks with a very short leader (12-15”), and spinnerbaits have worked very well for me in those cases.

    • @fishingmilesaway
      @fishingmilesaway 11 дней назад

      Yeah Mirrodines are great! I think you’re right about fishing the windy side for a better bite. The only time I really stick to the leeward side is in the cold. That may be more for me than the fish though. I’ve been running in to some big tailing redfish. Do you have any suggestions for an artificial presentation. I’ve been playing with different sizes, trying procure and Berkley Gulp but only getting one hit a day. Usually I wouldn’t mind that but these fish are everywhere. The ratio of hookups to opportunities is awful.

    • @alexanderren1097
      @alexanderren1097 11 дней назад

      @ I’ve had a hard time sight fishing Reds too but I fish Mosquito Lagoon a lot which is a very pressured fishery. The two times I can think of when I had success was afternoon, like 3pm or later, one time was with live shrimp on a small hook and light leader and the other was a 1/4oz gold spoon. Both times I was drifting while standing in the kayak. I didn’t have to bend down to swap paddle for my rod which that movement is pretty much guaranteed to spook fish. And I was able to make a really long cast that lead the fish from way out in front. No guarantees, I’m still figuring it out myself. Good luck!

      @fishingmilesaway 9 дней назад

      @alexanderren1097 Let me know if you ever want to head out and fish the lagoon together. I just moved to the area. Shoot me an email sometime, my email address is on the channel's homepage.

    Looks like you’re only moving your rod tip by like 6-10” when you’re twitching the lure. Try really ripping it, like slash the rod tip across like 2ft each time really quickly but also give slightly longer pauses. Slash slash Pause 1, 2, 3 Slash slash slash Pause 1, 2, 3 Slash Pause 1, 2, 3 Slash slash slash Pause 1, 2, 3 At least for now. Once we get into Winter then your original light twitching method might be better Also, personally I agree that NLBN plastics aren’t very durable so I mostly use DOA jerk shads or Zoom flukes. But I find the fish seem to respond better to a very aggressive retrieve with any fluke style bait

    I slay fish on the 3” NLBN paddle tail. I have used the mullets but my feedback is: 1 skip it, snook are reaction fish and when the lure skips 2-3 times and then hits the water they think is a mullet fleeing, when you cast over hand and makes a splash majority of time you will spook the fish. Also on the retrieve you were way too gentle like you were scare to work the lure, you need to try different retrieval methods but more erratic with a few pauses. Hope that helps!
