This makes you wonder how many children faced abuse, or even just had a really horrible time with their host families. I’ve never really considered that part of it until hearing your mother’s story. I can’t believe your uncle made it all the way home on his own, during a war. They were made of tougher stuff back then.
Mr bean
Can she walk?
It’s really sad that ww2 happened
How do you think they felt !! My God I'd be devastated!!

Great clip. Felt her heart. I am a teacher doing WW2 with my students.
And I'm a student cerently about it
Operation pied piper, very creepy if you know the story of the pied piper. Also not all the experiences were good, some were "exported".

Knowing the horrible things that happen to children by strangers now, that we didn't know about back then, I shudder to think what happened to her brother that he would run away back home and live in an empty house.
some were treated poorly and some good and i went from manchester we did not have tube to run into and had to live in air raid shelters till winston said evacuate the children from citys ND I LIVED THROUGH THIS AND WAS EVACAUATED. BUT LIVED THROUGH IT AND REMEMBER ALL AND EVERYTHING GILDA B
@@gildabart Hello Gilda. My grandparents lived through it too as children, but in the US. The only trouble they remember is the difficulty finding a doctor. Most of the doctors went off to the war. My grandmother had an accident playing sports and needed a dentist. They had a lot of trouble finding one. My grandfather was Ill and without proper medical attention it had turned into rheumatic fever. All the families in the parish without children gave him their jelly/jello ration so that he could have easily digestible protein. Small insignificant stories compared to yours. I would absolutely love to hear more of your story.
Really interesting video.

Nice video I'm here for school LMAO
Thank you! My mum, the lady in the video, sadly passed away two years ago, but she would have been really happy to know that you liked her stories of being a child evacuee. 🙂

My great granddad was a plane fixer in WW2 but he died
My great grandfather was 9 months old when wwii started idk how he got evacuated
I’m here from school and all I do is normal children’s stuff this sorta broke my heart
Well thanks for taking an interest. For sure being an evacuee would have been hard for most kids, but my mum used to recall her evacuee stories with a smile on her face, so she definitely had some good times as well. 🙂
Interesting. Thank you!
Thank you for watching and taking an interest! 👍
My mum was evacuated alone at age 5 to a family in Bath. Thankfully she loved them and we would visit them every year when we went to England (my parents moved to USA in 1964). I wish I had asked her more questions before she passed away!
I fully understand. Even though I managed to film my mother here, it is the tip of a very big iceberg of questions I never took the time to record but then many people never ask a single question about their parents lives. Even the smallest amount of knowledge about their lives is enormous when compared no knowledge at all. ❤️
Grover Costello Totally agree! I really like to know the stories. I'd better write mine down for my daughter while I can! Blessings
@@Lizz7711 Ithink I should do the same about my mother's life and my father's although neither one of them were great raconteurs.
@@dinkster1729 Even small details would be valuable I think! I need to get working on this asap!
This is a great video it’s helping me with school☺️
hi
This taught me alot, Stay strong.
great story
Thank you! It means a lot to me that other's get something from my mother's evacuee story.
how old r u
I am the maker of the video and this is my mother in it. Sadly she passed away two years ago when she was 78. The video was filmed when she was about 76. 🙂
oh sorry
@@Zxxyn22 Sorry for the very late reply. There's nothing to be sorry for. She lived to a good age and she loved life and lived it to the fullest. It's all good! Thank you for taking an interest in the video! 🙂
She looks and sounds incredible for someone old enough to have been evacuated during the war.
Sadly my mum passed away about two years ago aged 78 but for nearly all those years she was as sharp as a pin and could relay many stories from her childhood from memory. Thank you for the lovely comment! 🙂
@@grovercostello1668 :( sorry to hear that may she rest in peace

Wow what an amazing story so sad though

Imagine children being evacuated at an extremely young age (1, 2, 3, 4) and being returned back to your parents - you wouldn't want to go back because you had known your host family for longer than your real family.
Kids 5 or under got evacuated with their parents
@@Whatever-ol4iw Correct - young children were not sent away on their own.
My dad was 3 when he was evacuated to Cornwall. He lived with a family who had a son similar age. He loved it and was very much loved by the couple. They asked my grandmother if they could keep him, but gran wanted him back naturally. My dad has very happy memories of living on the farm in Cornwall. He came back to London when he was 7.

thank you for telling your story x
Sadly my mother passed away about a year ago but I am incredibly grateful to all the people like yourself who have taken something away from her short story about her evacuee experience as a child during the war. So thank you for taking the time to watch it! :)
@@grovercostello1668 sorry for your loss x thanks for the post watched it with my boys aged 8-7,,, thank you and your lovely mum x
@@captmidnite8142 Thank you for your condolences and even more so for sharing it with your boys. It makes having made the short film so worthwhile and to know that children of today get to understand what people like my mum went through as children themselves, whilst coming out of their experience to often become robust and well rounded people. :)
Short and to the point. Thank you.
