AndyAcoustic Solid Wood DRS2 vs. HPL DX Martin Dreadnought Review

Martin DX Johnny Cash vs. Solid Wood DRS2 ANDYacoustic
I bought the cash and the new 2024 dx sunburst same day and i honestly prefer the cash i lime the weight im not a massive fan of the new slimer neck on the new dx range either find myself pushing the top and bottom strings of the neck alot on it i am a heavy player though or may have something too do with the new string spacing . The cash is a good buy for anyone though you gwt the name its solid as hell and wont get damaged by a bit of rain or temperature change
The hpl sounds thinner
DRS2 sounds more focused and DX sounds a little lose
3:10 what song is this
Jet - move on (a variation of it)
Yeah, that’s no comparison that Martin blew it away!!! Although the fender does sound pretty good it definitely don’t sound like that Martin!
So… I ordered one. The feel of this thing is matched by nothing. I’m in love with it. I also have a Martin D28. I love the warmth and rich boom of the Martin, but the Redondo has a much faster neck, and cuts well in the studio. I actually prefer it all the way around.
Martin is well balanced. I prefer the bright attack of the Fender
Sure? They mention massive Sitka spruce top, sapele back and sides. A Full massive wood Guitar at this price point would be a real surprise!
@@andyacoustic9959 Wer ist "die"? Fender selbst oder thomann?
Exactly! The Player Models do only have solid spruce top but laminated back and sides but there is another all solid model in the lineup
I own a DRS2 (bought used for an absolute steal) and played the DX Cash in store. Main thing I noticed was (as you mentioned) volume, but also sustain. My DRS2 just rings like a bell. Is that something you notice, or did I simply play a dead DX?
This video explains the difference in sounds in a clear way. Thank you very much. As I am just starting out on my guitar journey, the less expensive Redondo makes sense. I can always upgrade later.
Glad it was helpful!
It’s all preference but if volume is what you are after 12s help.
Big difference in sound of course. But at the end of the day, when we gig, all that matters to the people listening is that the performance sounds good. Most of the listeners don't know how to differentiate acoustic tones from a Solid wood vs laminated ones.
The word is CRAPTASTIC
The Fender sounded like a 50.00 guitar.
I do like the ‘roundness’ of the Martin - but I think the Fender has an often-overlooked attribute - it’s sound can cut through other guitars and make itself known without becoming part of the ‘wall-of-sound’ - and once you’re going through an amp - then anything’s possible.
Fully agree Rebecca!
@@andyacoustic9959 I'm planning on retiring with a new guitar - and the Redondo (and the D'Angelico Bowery) are on my shortlist; I actually like the sound of a dreadnought body with ball-end classicals for playing Jazz and Blues - and once I'm plugged into my new amp, I can EQ it to sound right for the session - especially when I've got the multi-effects plugged in as well. But - my electrics are strats (including a 1977 I've had since new) and that Redondo is just pulling really hard on my heart... there's something real special about a strat neck!
I have the Fender so I'm biased. The Martin is not as bright as the Fender. With the Strat/Tele Headstock it's far cooler.
Just got my lefty black Redondo. Love it!
Hey man, many thanks for this complete demo and compare with Martin, i will buy thé Redondo now because your vidéo show me all what i need ! Thks, cheers from france
Glad I could help!
Definitely a huge difference in sound... the solid wood is vibrant sounding, while the Cash is more tinny.
Martin gets nice tone for sure
That Martin sound is so round and nice, the bass frequencies and the struming sounds so pleasant, the fender sounds pretty thin
Which is the song on the 6:40?
Blackbird - Beatles
I think the Fender sounds much nicer, so made my mind up.
what about the redondo vs fender cd140 cde?
Nice comparison with two nice guitars. Looking forward the the Fender ring for me 🙏 😎💯
The DRS2 is definitely louder and more resonant.
They don’t sound much different at all
Same same but different 😉
Nice! Are you playing Ein Kompliment in the beginning of the video? Love that song.
👍 Sportfreunde Stiller
750€ is not an acceptable price for an all plastic guitar imo ! Played that CASH guitar and, if i didn't know any better i would have said it was a very well made chinese copy, it even had a gap where the body meets the neck. The D-10E on the other hand was better in every aspect, except for the price ... 1100€ ...
The Redondo is my favourite. It, s more brilliant
Thanks for the thoughtful edits to compare. Still on the fence with the Redondo but leading towards the fender
Hi Andy, good review - thank you for that. Where did you get the star stickers on you your fretboard of the DRS2? Does it still work? Best regards!
There are fretboard stickers on eBay etc. In this case they are simple usual stickers and perfectly durable!
Great comparison. Thank you!
Glad is was helpful!
To me they both sound very similar. I'm using good quality headphones to listen with. The solid wood one sounds maybe a tad louder but that's all. You really get the classic Martin sound either way you go.
The Cash has the mojo.
Nice playing and demo. I too picked up a DRS 2 on the used market for a steal....a really nice sounding guitar and it makes you want to play it.
The model Jonny Cash ( HPL), not performaming !
Best guitar video review ever!
i study to sound engineer back in days and work as it a period And i dont really understand why someone like to search for a acoustic guitar with highest volume when you use mic preamps and front of house If you need acoustic high volume guitar let it stay acustic and play it in acoutic venues cuse its not a advantage when you use preamps and front of house speakers I can garante that the Johnny Casch model would sound as the best i that type of venues.
Listen this: Martin dx2 new models are the best sound and pro guitars to make gigs, every day wins a better sweet sound. Martin drs1 us ok also but 400 s more... No good price for less money, before drs1 . Buy dx2 always with solid top only, this black is beauty but no sound.
Haven’t played a DX with solid top yet; but I could imagine it could be a perfect balance between sound and robustness. [As long as you don’t mind plastic wood 😉]
@@andyacoustic9959 Yes, but the top is solid and his sound is great over hpl.
Awesome video, thanks, I was looking for this comparison! Enjoyed the production, too!
Many thank's to you, it's pretty hard to find review like this in the same set up, and it make me feel confortly on my opinion to buy a Martin's sign Johnny Cash. I was bit afraid of HPL but it really feel like it got a soul in it. Keep up great work !
Have you tried it plugged in? Just curious how the pup sounds...
Excellent performance! 🎶😍💜
Thank you Ashleigh!

Nice! I compared the CASH to the G45. I bought another CASH, because I’ve lost 60% of my hearing. The DX CASH allows me to sing and hear it. And it’s smooth. Very smooth compared to a wood guitar. Nice review.
