Straw can help but it works as mulch. So when you put straw across the top of a field it'll lock in the moisture better than exposing it to the sun.

It can help building Humus, like others said, but mainly because of Carbon in the straw, if you dort fertilize nitrogen bacteria wont have enough to convert it, and if you plow the field you can create a straw matt which blocks water and air from circulating

We need the next base game to come out with better building mechanics and a way to plant grass, auto loading trailers and the terrain tool needs to not be a mission, otherwise they've literally done nothing for anyone
