3M™ Self-Stick Liquid Protection Fabric
3M™ Self-Stick Liquid Protection Fabric is excellent for protecting gelcoats, wood, reinforced plastics and other valuable surfaces in marine manufacturing and repair. It’s ideal for busy facilities with lots of foot traffic - it resists abrasion and light impact. It prevents even harsh grease and oil from soaking through. And it helps prevent dirt from spreading around by trapping it in the nonwoven surface. 3M™ Self-Stick Liquid Protection Fabric rolls on smoothly, sticks firmly to almost any substrate and peels up cleanly without residue. You can even use 3M™ Self-Stick Liquid Protection Fabric to replace time-consuming paper-and-tape masking. It also resists UV, so you can use it outd...

    Is 3M Heavy Cut Marin compound a diminishing abrasive? As in it cuts heavy at first but breaks down into a finer compound as it’s worked to give a more polished look. Or does it just keep cutting like an aggressive compound leaving scratches that will need cleaned up with a finer compound. Thanks in advance

    other gel coat guns use a 4 to 6 mm spray nozzle. The HGP gun says comes with 1.8 & 2.0. Does the pressure on the pot lower the size of the orifice required ? Does is have a better atomization pattern than other dump guns ?

    Can anybody tell me if they’ve ever sprayed gel coat, if so is it normal for it to orange peel? Is it just because the nature of gel coat to get that way or I’m not adjusting the spray gun well? I have a Fuji HVLP T75g & 3M PPS. This gel coat I sprayed is really thin, not like typical thick gel coat, sold by Lilly Ram

    • @bomberman659
      @bomberman659 3 года назад

      How many coats are you putting on? Normally 3rd coat is when orange peeling effect occurs but you will probably need at least 3 coats anyway depending on the projects you’re working on. Hope this helps

      @hullhealersboatworksrestor4377 2 года назад

      Yes it will peel. If it’s not orange peeling your doing it wrong. If you use Duratech High Gloss Additive to thin the gelcoat you will find you get little to no peel. Although, it’s quite expensive! NEVER EVER EVER use Acetone to thin, or styrene or MEK (not MEKP, that’s hardener). Only use patch aids like duratech, fast patch any spectrum or polynt patch booster. Good luck!

    I hate mixing, testing and cleaning up. If I have a small job, I order the gel coat spray cans from dolphinite. They'll mix custom orders from a paint chip or swatch. I heard they had some problems in the past, but my experience was recent, and no problems for me.

    Next time you guys think about doing a demo, call me. I hate watching you waste all that money on actors "playing" detailer again and again. I'll bet my car that between me, my technique using your stuff and anyone you choose next time doing it your way (sells tons of stuff right?) and my section will score higher on a gloss meter and last longer. Get on my level! Ugh, bad kids

    This 3m line is horrible. Except the heavy cut compound which must be stirred every month or so (it seems) or it becomes a solid ball at the bottom of the bottle. But, in its natural state, it's fine. The rest, carnuba-based (note to 3m: the 1950's happened a long time ago. Lots has happened) So, they want you to buy lots of their products to keep your boat looking new... Old game. I can use their stuff but add a step or three (dozen) and blow that finish away both in gloss and especially longevity. You don't even have to be a professional. Stop using carnuba! (unless you love the smell like I do) seriously, STOP! 3M, STOP! Their buffer: like holding a vw thats all turbo. Heavy, loud and the weight isn't balanced. A clear case of engineers not asking a detailer how a buffer should be built for us. I helped design a buffer (unnamed here) If you do boats, then you probably will or are already using it. ( I offered the design to 3M, they went another direction again) I'm disappointed

      2% by volume is recommended. But you can catalyze from 1-4% depending on temperature and color of gelcoat. Darker color’s require up to 4% MEKP.
