Just a simple breakdown of the Abus Monobloc for Rookie's curiosity. Comparatively pretty close to the Lockwood 290 Monobloc but with a price tag nearly 70% more expensive. Can't confirm the weight variation between the two but would hazard to guess the Abus on the heavier side. I stand to be corrected though. Impressive unit but the 290 isn't too far off comparatively so i would tend to go the...

Just answering a question posed my way for someone who has lost their key for their Ikonic vent locks. I don't edit so the burp is included for free:-)

      How are ya mate. Yeah, the footprint is pretty close to the older version 001s. Should be an easy conversion for you. The other option is the Whitco deadlatch. It is pretty much a clone of the 001. They are somewhat cheaper and function the same. Has the safety release upon entry. The only difference is the Whitco deadlatch doesn't have the red/green indicator on the inner hub. Whitco is part of the Assa Abloy Group so they are pretty much clones. Goodluck with it. You should be fine. Just take your time and job should be a breeze:-)

    I'm apparently rather late to the party here, but FWIW if you have an appropriate key for the lock you can depress the retention wafer, insert the key and then the core will pull out easily with the key (it's also the easy way to re-install the cylinder)

    we have had our lock for over 20 years and its just getting a bit stiff in the numbers, a replacement lock would cost here in NZ $570 so thanks to you I can now take it apart from the door and try a little CRC and hope it works better. and thanks to you I can also change the code if required. A lock smith would have cost me $220 plus the cost of the lock for the 1st hour so about $790 or more. Cheers mate, Glenn v from NZ

    I just had the same lock and core put together by my local locksmith. I had him grind the everest stamp off of the core because the hidden security pin is only useful if the picker doesn't know it's there. I find it ridiculous that they provide the answer to defeating the security feature right on the damn thing.

    • @crankylock7844
      @crankylock7844 11 месяцев назад

      Hi. I would go with a combination set. An entrance lock with a deadbolt above it. The problem with the Gainsborough Tri Lock is that it has a distinct footprint that you have to cover. I think they still sell dress plates that would cover all existing holes and allow a combination lockset to be installed in its place. Not sure if you have the early version Tri Lock or the later version? I could show you a few options that might work in a video if you like. I can leave a link to the video in this comment. Cheers-)

    Yes, the one that is held by the circlip? Rotate the clip?

    • @crankylock7844
      @crankylock7844 Год назад

      You need to spread the clip to release the tail bar. Then replace the new tail bar in and squeeze the ends of the clip to secure the tail bar. You could try rotating the clip 90 degrees to remove the old tail bar. The clips are fairly flexible so it can work. After you have replaced the tail bar then just rotate back 90 degrees and squeeze. The clip has a nipple on one side of the clip. That's what keeps the clip from not rotating once the ends are squeezed. Good luck with it. Cheers:-)

Let me know either way what you want to do. The other option of course is to bite the bullet and replace with a current model 001 or a whitco deadlatch which shares the same footprint as the new 001. I agree. Definitely enhances the Lockwood logo. The problem i find is that not all stampings from the Lockwood factory in Victoria back in the pre 2000s varied in depth. Would imagine the die setting back in the day was set at different depths depending who was setting the die. A deeper stamping is way better as it gives you more wriggle room when linishing. A little too late I suspect, but the blank you are looking for is the Ilco 1239 steel. Don't try turning until the shackle pushes up when you push the key in.

      Thanks for the key blank intel. Not an item that would be on the shelf ready to go at my supplier. Will source one eventually to finish the job in the near future, Cheers:-)

      How are you mate. Not totally sure what the going price would be. Probably around the $20 mark would be a fair price. I see them now and again on Flea Bay. Not sure where you are located on the planet but they are an old Australian designed padlock and generally not available outside Australia. Have a good one. Cheers:-)

      @@crankylock7844 Thanks for the quick reply mate!!, I am up in Darwin. Love all things vintage. 👍 Got some old Sidchrome tool boxes, thought one would look nice hanging off one of them. Thanks again!

      @@dirkdiggler5821 How are you mate. I have that Sidchrome reassembled with a operational key sitting here collecting dust. You can have it if you want. I would rather see it being in use in conjuction with the toolbox. Let me know if you're interested and i can post it up North to you. Nothing expected in return and accept it as a gift if you will. Cheers:-)
