The Original Masters: Rage & Review
Добавлен 23 апр 2006
Welcome to the home of Shtick, RUclips’s first animatronic skeletal gaming commentator!
One part rage, one part review. We’ll take you on
a trip back to the good old days where we play lots of two-player co-op titles and really hard single-player classics, now with goals and time limits!
Paul's demented rages!
James' “stunning,” skills!
Shtick's 'bone'-afide commentary!
It's a twisted retro gaming comedy show and a story about an undead gamer and an evil overlord from another dimension.
Language warning: Beware. Danger. Curses.
New episodes twice a month!

The Arcade version is a perfect beat em up, never gets old👍😎🍺.
@@Retro-cabin It’s definitely up there in my top 20 favorite beat ‘em ups, and Paul’s top 5. Final Fight with some gunplay is a hard combo to top!
Great video, never played this game looks fantastic👍😎🍺.
@@Retro-cabin Thanks, awesome to see you. Blood Brothers is a quaint but genuinely fun gallery shooter that every lover of retro games needs to try.
I remember being young enough to get sucked into the first series & film of Mighty Morphing Power Rangers haha so I'd of really enjoyed this as a nipper.⚡️They did have guns/phasers back in the day but didn't use them too often. Had this running on the flat screen TV in my room, an oddly relaxing watch/listen, some of those early boss brawls were so close. Very well played and congrats on beating the whole game. That A+B+Start bonus boss was tricky though.🕹💪🍀
@@Pjvenom1985 Thanks for watching, PJ! It could be cool to do the occasional long form video, but Shtick doesn’t have the patience for those! Yeah, there’s another cool one for SFC called Gekisou Sentai Carranger!
@OriginalMasters Haha fair enough, I still have some older long form adventures pre Shtick era to scope out as well though so all good.🕹💀⚡️🍀

The controls are so janky!!! I only did the dub as I want the Mega/Sega CD libraries to be accessible in each reason. I don’t have the skill to add subtitles but swapping out WAVs is easy enough and recording my own bad dub 😂
@@bundjohn I think it’s a great idea! I wonder if there are others out there doing that!
@ I would like to think so but as the Mega/Sega CD is a niche console that only the games people really care about will get the proper translations. Especially as this got a Genesis release. The next game I’m going to do is the third game in the trilogy Annet 😁

Happy New Year guys! The Cyber Stick is awesome and it's one of the few controllers that has the joystick on the correct side for retro gaming (RHS). Great for all those classic Sega Super Scaler games. Space Harrier anyone? :-) Keep up the awesome work!
@@jayme69 Happy New Year, Jamie! We hope it’s a great one for you. The Cyber is one of the better modern joystick controllers, and I agree about the stick positioning, but for someone who doesn’t it’s designed to be swappable as well.
I like the idea of choosing your level and getting a difference experience. Kinda like Darius, like you say, but also reminds me of Star Fox. A little mindless arcade shooter is good every now and then.
@@dionelr Thanks, Dio, and happy new year! Yeah, we enjoy the original Star Fox a ton more, but with the stick this is good mindless fun, like you say!
Lol Paul I never seen that movie either but I'm glad shtick called you out. As for the game that looks awesome, like an evolved space harrier, I don't have many joystick accessory things but that does look like it would enhance that game. Cheers guys🎉
@@Benjisretrospective Benji, if you find our email and provide your address, I will mail you a copy of The Wizard, as you absolutely must see it at least once! 😆 Yeah, it is definitely an advanced Space Harrier, with a few levels that feature walls closing in, more environmental stuff. The stick isn’t anything mind-blowing, but it definitely makes the experience more engaging and visceral, yeah!
That game looks like a heap of fun. The only "shoot em up" I recall playing with a similar perspective is Super Thunderblade, which is a somewhat disappointing experience. At first glance, I thought that controller was for that train driving simulator that Taito made 😂.
@@X-Bit-Gits Densha de Go! 😆 Looks like it’s time to buy more peripherals! I’ve heard the MD version of Super Thunderblade is kinda stiff compared to the arcade?
@OriginalMasters never played the arcade, but that's what I've heard, too.

Happy New Year to you, too, Matty! And year to make more classic gaming videos is a great year!
That cyber stick is SUPER SPIFFY! 100% big fan of shea butter lol. takes some time to adjust to that stick with that game, i usually deal with it by pretending I'm using the same inertia as walking a big dog ( Labrador size) . btw the faster you hit the shoot button you start sending out homing shots. i have to agree with you guys 8.5 rating everything yawl said was on point but it always feels like a 10 while playing it especially with the stick plus the music makes one feel like their really in the mission. one of those games that gets better every time i play it. btw it uses a YM2610 just like the neogeo for audio but with a 4x filter
@@StevenCusic Thanks, Steve! I’m pretty sure you can adjust the calibration via a menu and we’ll have to try soon. Labrador! Feels like riding greased lightning! Yeah, it’s a great game, if a little bit simple and loose! I wonder which path letter is considered the best ending!
@@OriginalMasters maybe its cause I'm playing it in mame. also the Logitech stick i have probably has different dynamics but everything feels natural on the fly with it with a slight push or pull notion. Logitech and Microsoft are strategic partners so it's probably what mame DEV had in mind when doing the input configs. I could always ask david haywood one of the mame dev leads on his channel next time he uploads. btw if you want the best end keep going right in the select path and end up in U

@@JPEGJIMMY Congrats on the video-I remember you talking about doing this one a while back, if I’m remembering correctly.
@OriginalMasters Yeah,I did finally make it and now am currently working on my Christmas video that is coming a little late
You guys got to level four on the OG, I bow to you. game is so damn difficult to me I've ever pass that cliche turbo tunnel!!. This was a series that always put style over function in my opinion, it looks fantastic for the time that god damn was it difficult lol
@@Benjisretrospective Paul has never gotten past the turbo tunnel, and I’ve only gotten as far as the last room of Karnath’s Lair! Really should try again sometime. This game is decent fun, but the original is legendary. Honestly, should’ve been a BIT easier and featured passwords that at the very least preserved your continues/lives to not make it too easy. The original didn’t need that level of difficulty to make us want to come back-it’s so well-designed, and that’s always the best reason to replay a game. Thanks, Benji!!

@@X-Bit-Gits Who knows what goes on wherever Mokultor skulks about? Cheers, guys!
Battletoads are easily one of my favorite games ever. I grew up playing both of the SNES games, Battlemaniacs and Battletoads & Battlemaniacs. I always had a blast playing with my brothers these games back then, but now looking at the Arcade version I realize how much I've missed out. In this one, you can see the clear difference in size between Pimple and the other toads. I always liked playing as Pimple but they all have something that makes them cool. I like how chaotic this one is, the scenery is incredible and feels almost like a retro action movie. The story was hilarious and made me think of the AVGN who combined film into his videos. Loved the nostalgia, would be fun to play this one together
@@Consolous Thanks for the awesome comment!! I’d say the best thing about this game, for those of us who grew up with Battletoads is that it gives the immediate fun we were looking for in the original, and like you said, more differentiation between the toads.
First of since I'm relentlessly putting a lot into this terminator tune I'm working on molkultors appearance was was epic AF and that theme was on some top tier movie score level. btw punished came out before battletoads they had that arcade board in a retro arcade in phoenix when i lived there and we 3 layered it with a bunch of beer and THAT WAS ALOT OF FUN especially watching my pals getting tore up by the snake boss since they didn't know what to do and of course i was zitz he's like their Donatello and I'm really good at this one! i cant really compare this to other beat'em ups its got its own special magic for me
@@StevenCusic Awesome, man. That must be the coolest arcade in Phoenix-if it had this one it had lots of obscures. One thing we didn’t mention is the music by the always great David Wise, and it along with the over the top design really does impart a funky early 90’s magic.
I've never seen this game in an arcade. I wonder how widespread it was. It definitely looks easier than the NES version.
We’ve read it was a very limited release, possibly in the low hundreds! And anything is easier than Battletoads for the NES if you’ve got infinite credits, absolutely. We’d argue that it’s easier than the NES version even if it shared the same number of lives and continues, though!
I've never seen this game, it looks better than the NES version for sure. I'm interesting in playing it now.
Ooh, a controversial comment! This game is definitely more easy like a Sunday morning than the original, but the original can, in theory, give that special sense of satisfaction when you clear it! Hopefully Shtick can shield us from that game for as long as possible. 😅
Merry Christmas/happy holidays (whichever you prefer ha) guys. Mokultor seems like one of those who hates Christmas though 🤔
@@mattyboy2024 Thanks, Matty! We hope you have a great Christmas season, too! I’m not sure about Mokultor and Christmas, but I’m pretty sure he would appreciate the Grinch!
It's a malevolent Mokultor mush miracle reveal haha! Fair play to Shtick for helping you out with that "honest" mistake.🕹💀🔥 Great episode well done/played guys.❄️🍀
@@Pjvenom1985 Thanks, PJ! Mokultor’s a wild one, and we definitely gotta tread lightly!
This game looks crazy!
@@RadBashGaming It definitely has enough personality to make you wish it had been ported to the home consoles! The snake and the bird boss (we didn’t show) takes things to a wild level, yeah.
@OriginalMasters I love a good boss fight so I might need to play it just to see that haha
"No Men Left" that looked rough indeed lads...so close though! Good hustle Paul, unlucky on that Sea Serpent clash.🕹🌊🍀
@@Pjvenom1985 We totally neglected power ups, which makes it a lot more manageable, but it’s still a nasty affair! Thanks for watching, PJ! 💀
The cliff fall animation & scream might haunt poor Paul for the rest of his days. No rating on this one?🤣 Nice video.🕹💪🍀
@@Pjvenom1985 No ratings for the rage videos, because Paul’s anger would very likely color the verdict! Yeah, this was an odyssey of pain for sure. They thought the player would recognize the difference between identical-looking creatures, where half you have to jump, and half you have to zap. They thought wrong. 🤣
@OriginalMasters Ah I see, makes sense to be fair.🎮🤯🔥🍀
