(2022) Narvaez Bay Backcountry Camping... With a Baby!
In my chronically sleep-deprived state I thought it'd be a great idea to go camping with a newborn baby! So off we went, with our beautiful baby boy, River Wilder Cuff, whom we welcomed into this world on July 3rd. His introduction to the great outdoors and sleeping outside!

(2021) Golden Ears Half Moon Beach Backcountry Camping
Просмотров 2912 года назад
2021 was a really hard year for me. The plan was to tape at least a half dozen backcountry camping trips including all of the upper Manning Park backcountry campsites. However, due to my overwhelming personal and mental struggles, this is the only trip that got recorded. I smashed my GoPro on the next trip (which was to Manning Park), and we actually only visited one of the upper Manning Park c...
No Baby Yet!! (9 Months Pregnant)

This is more of a 'home video' than any type of training/running or race recap!! I haven't actually run in maybe 2 months now... And at the moment, I'm becoming more restricted by the day. I can power walk and go for short hikes still though! In a holding pattern, waiting for baby to come...

Survival of the Fittest 18K Race Recap (8 months Pregnant)

What an adventure! I truly had no idea what to expect going into this race - and although I knew I was never going to actually 'race' it (it was always going to be a power walk with hopes for completion) and I was pretty sure I'd be leading up the rear... I knew I just wanted to enjoy being out on the trails in the race atmosphere I love so much. As it happened, the one thing I really did not w...

Literally couldn't be happier with how this week finished up! Between my knee and my baby bump it's not that I haven't had my share of challenges - but wow did things ever come together for WestVanRun... Truly awesome to be racing again. And although I never dreamt I'd be racing (pregnant whilst still healing my injury / running without an ACL), I wouldn't trade it for anything!
Run Ridge Run 13K Trail Race (5 Months Pregnant)

An exciting week as I counted down to Run Ridge Run, literally not knowing until I got there if I was going to be able to run much of it, if any at all... And when race day arrived, I couldn't have been more excited. Amazing to be back out on the trails 'racing' again!!

And here goes week 2 of back to running, 17 weeks after tearing the ACL in my right knee! This week that knee popped up to say hello more than once... Despite that I do manage to stay more less to plan. I find myself having so much fun out there at times, and getting rather frustrated at other times... Overall, more than anything, just so happy to be running again! ~Sarah

So this is 2.5 months LATE being posted, but we did squeeze in one last trip before the weather turned too cold for us to backcountry camp again in 2020. Team Tahoe hits up the HSCT!! Howe Sound Crest Trail is a challenging 29 km (or so) km trail in West Vancouver. It includes multiple peaks, lots of scrambling, a few ropes and typically lots of stunning views. Most people hike it from Cypress to Porteau Cove (which is what we did). Sadly we had smoke roll in, so our views weren't quite what we'd been hoping for... But the day was still overall ...

Sarah! What a smart and awesome race. It was just the inspiration I needed. I'm also coming off an injury and have a race next week that I was thinking of blowing it off since I'll be slooowww and I'm terrified that I'll come in last. But after watching your cheerful optimism about simply being able to run and race again without pain, I realize that that's the important thing, getting out there and enjoying the moments. Glad your knee is feeling better and stronger, and congrats on the pregnancy. Take care, and happy running.

Oh my gosh, your comment made my day! Thank you so much Cinthia - and also, thank you for sharing where you're at! So excited for you to get back into racing too. It is fascinating how we have fears of being last, isn't it?! I've had chats with clients about this fear, and when I ask them what they are making it mean about themselves, it's usually a belief that coming in last means they are a failure, or similar... Whereas of course, coming back from an injury is anything but! So glad you decided not to blow off your race - wishing you a great day out there - happy running to you too :) xx

great video and I just hiked up yesterday to Deeks Lake sept. 3rd 2021 to meet my friend coming thru from the cypress parking lot. She mentioned she saw that big black bear eating berries near the trail around Brunswick Lake. You got incredible footage of that bear especially looking at you when you came around the corner. He doesn't seem interested in doing anything with the people and just wants his berries. This video is excellent and you have a really great sense of humour.
