Thought I would share this with everyone. My favorite song off my favorite Beach Boys album.
Wonderful. He is so so expressive. Did Brian write it as well?
Brian is a genius. But it is in Mike Love we trust.
why those stupid punks are laughing, what is there to be laugh
❤
That's not Brian's voice.
Yes, it is.
Are you really that unfamiliar with Brian's voice during this period? It's totally him. It actually showed promise over the cigarette and cocaine induced gruff croaks he did from about 76 to 81. He claimed he was embarrassed over "sounding like a girl" in his earlier work. Incidentally, those earlier vocals put him in the Rolling Stone list of 50 greatest rock singers of all time.
This is Murry, right?
I’m pretty sure that’s Murry, him and Chuck sounded pretty similar though sometimes it’s hard for me to
is that murry speaking on the intro?
I’m pretty sure that’s Murry, him and Chuck sounded pretty similar though sometimes it’s hard for me to tell
Bassy, yeah that's the way it should be. Good chugging rhythm to this song.
I love it!! Don't think I have heard this one before.
Sounds higher pitched than the original...?
Can’t understand the lyrics because of the poor recording quality. The music could be improved a lot by just improving the same recording quality. Is there a better performance of this song?😊❤
Love it! First time I’ve ever heard it, but a fantastic find! 😊❤
What a gem.
So good
I cant believe they did this live!
One of my all time favorite Beach Boy songs from one of my favorite Beach Boy albums. About a decade ago, I paid real money for an NOS copy of "Love You". I have been a Beach Boy fan since the mid sixties.
brian's recorded voice on the early lp's - unmatched- anywhere, imo. "girls on the beach" - on a summer day...omg!
Carl’s vocal lead on this song is pure perfection. Brian can’t do it justice.
Murray was an asshole. I don't think he knew how to produce. He knew as much as I know how to build an atomic bomb
NO WONDER Brian had a mental breakdown! 😢😮
Can anyone explain why the music is a bit slowed/lower in pitch? I don't believe Brian recorded the songs slightly lower to make it easier, is there a reason why its lower in this recording?
I noticed the same thing
@@reyvalentine3 turns out it was in fact slowed (both in speed and pitch) to make it easier to sing (therefore higher chance of a better vocal take to reduce studio time) David Marks explained this technique in his guitar lesson course videos.
@@FishyTheKid I love this song so I’ve heard so many versions of it countless times. It seems the final track on the album is a bit sped up. To me, I like track at the speed it is on the video here. Which videos of David Marks are you speaking of? Are they here on YT?
@@reyvalentine3 David marks, the guitarist of the beach boys for the first 5 albums haha.
@@FishyTheKid”which videos of…” 🙄
The recent news of Brian's dementia did not exactly shock or surprise me. He's had mental issues for years.
Fantastic song, love you Brian and thank you!
Murray's a genius too, y'know.
Absolutely beautiful. Beautiful Brian ❤️🌹
Carl and Dennis are SORELY missed by millions!😢 😮
You couldn't please him any more than you could pull elephant tusks with a pair of tweezers. 😢😮
Murray was the tyrant to end ALL tyrants. What can I say? 😂 😅
Murray was what you call a perfectionist to a fault. So much so that he drove most people around him crazy with his constant demands. No wonder Brian suffered a mental breakdown! 😢😮
That quality rubbed off on Brian as well unfortunately:/ His inability to be satisfied is why Smile never came out :/
Brian does pretty good here! What strikes me more about this mix, though, is the production seems less... awful. Keepin' The Summer Alive suffered more, I think, from the milquetoast production than it did from the writing (Brian could, can, and always will turn out a beautiful melody). This has a lot more bite than the released mix.
Can’t wait for the 50th anniversary release for this album
I’m not a fan of the album but I always like hearing the behind the scenes stuff
I love this song.I think Murray was an abusive and very jealous man.
19 takes for Surfer Moon?! WTF!?
1 for the Boys 18 for Murray
The song has never made myself sad. This audience really made me sad instead. :(
Murray’s constant interruptions are even nerve racking when just listening! It must have been awful for the group to endure practice sessions with his doing this nonstop!😊❤
Love this song! How was it not #1 for all the summer months? The melody is awesome and the lyrics are just outstanding! 😊❤
One of my favorite Beach Boys albums, probably because it's basically a Brian solo album with mostly Carl and Dennis providing vocal support. Nothing against Al, but I always wished that the three brothers split off to form their own group.
Sharon Marie had quite the 'do!
Can't believe you tube accepted this abysmal quality recording.
Carl does a great job
Superior version imo. Wish Brian was a little louder
this sounds fake
Real sweet!
wow 🥺
does anybody know who's singing here?
It’s Carl
@@shemp_ thank you
Brian is singing the lead and Carl is singing chorus. Brian”the night was so young”. Carl “she’s passing it by”
@@TheDarkPrince360 No, it's Carl singing the verses and chorus.
@@SG_7733 you can tell Brian is singing the Verse. Listen to it. That’s when Brian had not the best voice. Carl still does the chorus.
It’s interesting to hear the first take of this. The final version is one of my absolute favorites by them. Thanks for sharing this!
Murray took any moment he could to “instruct” his son to mask the agony that possessed him. Murray knew full well, Brian had the talent he never had.
This is true but in Murray's defense as hard as he was on Brian it seemed like Brian lost a lot of discipline and accountability for actions not too long after firing Murray. I know Murray's abuse surely played a role in Brian's codependent behavior at times and I say this all as someone who holds Brian Wilson in the highest regards musically.
@@treadstoned9915Yeah Brian started really getting into drugs right around the time his dad was fired
Wow, as a long time Beach Boys fan thank you for this rare recording! The subtle but intense emotion and romantic nostalgic feel comes across especially powerful in this music on it's own.
Probably the worse auidence that could've appeared when Brian was playing on stage (already a rarity). No wonder Brian never wanted to peform, with these fools in the crowd that didn't understand the music he poured his heart and soul into.
