Why buy a Tundra? I’ve owned several models of snowmobile over the years. Today’s new models are built more specialty purpose than ever. Here’s my 2 cents on the Tundra, it somewhat tippy disposition and what I use this multipurpose machine for.

Skidoo Tundra Cargo Rack Upgrade

Adding BRP reinforcement plates to the Tundra Sport model in this video. These plates offer more tie down points as well as keeping luggage better contained within the cargo rack. The standard cargo rack that came with this model does not work in conjunction with LINQ, so I installed these accessory plates to improve cargo carrying ability.

How do you tilt this thing manually? Struggling to find the tilt lock lever.
Black tab front of the motor. Push it down to click then lift.
my pop was the first around where i live to get one i think its cool
How do u mount it ? I guess withbat least 2 guys?😅
I had a new Tundra a couple years back. Machine was tippy as hell. It sure seemed like it was trying to kill me. I acknowledge that at 70 I’m not as agile as I used to be. I got rid of the Tundra and bought tracks for my Honda Pioneer but had I chose to keep the Tundra, I’d have added the ski widening kit. Everything is a compromise.
Thank you. I live in the bush and was looking to buy a Tundra for my kennel helper. I think I'll stick with the Skandic.
The carb boots like to dry and crack during storage. I rub grease or cooking oil to keep them from drying.
I worked as a professional mechanic all my life and could feel every bit of your pain . Kind of job where you all most have to pack a lunch for the trip . Finn grandparents on my mom's side .
Sisu!
Thats probably the only NEW Skidoo model I'd buy! I don't care for any of these new ungodly long tracked grasshopper looking things they build these days. I worked for a skidoo dealer in western Mt. in the 90's- 2003. We rode fan Formulas and fan Summit 500f's. Never needed that go fast stuff to go anywhere we wanted in the back country. Most times faster higer HP sleds were not an advantage. Only the show off racer boys rode them and we could usually outclimb them as they dug big holes in the snow and got stuck!
Tundra was designed to break trail in tight forests.
I feel your pain, my 2013 Tundra LT 600ACE has the full wrap around HD bumper and it hinders the outward flexion of the side panel even further. I struggled to get the batter out of the battery box. I cannot imagine how difficult it would be to remove the can. I think the design would have been better if the pop rivets in the bottom were removable fasteners that allowed the complete removal of that side panel portion of the body. Thanks for sharing the video and your struggles.
I agree. I am contemplating drilling them our on my machine, and replacing them with small SS bolts , washers and lock nut.
Really wish you would have shown how to take apart the sled and access the spark plugs
Great process. God bless you, and remember Jesus, who died on the tree, the cross, died for you too. Make Him your Lord and Saviour, and repent to Him. And be born again. Thanks :)
Is there not a drain plug to drain the chain case oil? Seems crazy to go through all that to change the oil
Hi Guy this exercise was more about getting to the chain case tensioner. I believe skidoo service would just extract old oil with a pump.
Well just did a track change on my 2011 tundra. And your video is my experience lots of bad words and scratches on knuckles. But helpful.
Ski skins and quali ski wideners unreal difference on the tippiness
Thinkisng of a 2023 tundra, still tippy ?
Yes, the performance of the tundra would still be more tippy than an Expedition etc, it has not changed - but you get other benefits to the narrow ski stance like floatation and maneuverability in tight situations.
@@granteditslifeoutdoors.9194 thanks for the reply, I’m deciding from that and the skandic for ice fishing, I will have a two up, does that make a big difference
@@taylord9772 I’d go with the Expedition unless you have more utilitarian need for a Skandic.
Lt tundra has rad and fan
Hey, I also have a tundra sport. What cargo bag is that? Any chance you have a part number? Thanks for the vid!
Hi Nathan, inside the bag part # BRP 511000725. Online SKU # 860200826. It’s a good little bag.
Same.. my 2022 tundra Lt is tippy as hell,,, but its awesome in the deep snow,, really gotta move ur body weight around while hitting a corner/turn
Thanks for the video really helped me with my 2019
Those sleds are awesome they go anywhere you want them to I tried to find one but could I like how it's not wide and can fit pretty much think bushels
Yeah, the new four-stroke motors are way better than the old two-stroke designs.
Un bel motore
Why don't you in America have insulation in the floor? Why couldn't you build straight on the concrete slab?
I’m in Canada, so I agree on your point and a good deal of thought was contemplated on insulating the cabin envelope. My sauna is 2x10 joists over beams on posts so that floor is boxed in and batt insulated and very comfortable in -30 C. Concrete not so comfortable at -30 C unless it is heated continuously. This application gives the option for heating the crawl space. The trick is to not trap moisture. Pony walls will be insulated and sealed with 6 mil poly allowing access to mechanical / plumbing, protection from freezing in late season and storage. I may still batt insulate between the floor joists depending on comfort level, but I won’t apply any in the build until roof on and weather tight. Thanks for your question.
What part of the world you located
At 672 sqft, assume this is just a weekend "getaway" cabin; or the cost of lumber and concrete for a larger structure would be way to expensive.
Yes materials are expensive, thus small footprint.
@@granteditslifeoutdoors.9194 Thanks for your reply. I watch a lot of DIY homestead videos and I was always wondering if cost of materials have gone down in price or remained rather high. There are a lot of "DIY'ERS" and it's amazing how they still build with the high cost of things.
@@chuckblack9410 beams and blocks were salvage material which allowed 2x8 joists on spans- a savings over 2x10 or engineered truss. Cost for just a footing was not much less than pouring a pad and forming was faster and cheaper with club. Mesh I got for a bottle of wine.
Wow! You guys have been making progress!
Wish they still made these 550f tundras….. i would of bought that without hesitation.
Sangat keren...mantap buat mancing..
Duh.
The expedition can do everything expect very narrow paths plus way more. I do a lot of lake crossing with lots of slush (Northern Ontario). It’s all about what you’re doing
Even then, there's better options than the expo
Nice review. I had a tundra xtreme and switched to a expedition xtreme. While I liked my tundra I found the 600 e-Tec fast but extremely tippy. The narrowness was great for cutting through narrow trees but still very tippy.
Too underpowered for that long track. You need the 600 E-Tec
In some circumstances like running a lake in powder, yes. But for off trail bush maneuvering the 550 fan does quite fine. They had the Tundra Extreme, but that’s been discontinued. If you’re looking for 2 stroke powerband then there are lots of other choices. Perhaps a Backcountry Sport. It’s really a question of what are your primary usages for the snowmobile?
I bought a 2022 600 EFI LT, so far I am impressed with its tight turning and handling. But I did get an old lesson on an uphill turn in soft snow , forgot to weight uphill. Laid it on the side , put it in reverse and walked it out. Still in the break in phase.
Same,,, haha same sled and same thing happened to me,, hahaha going up hill with a turn.
If you know how to ride it being tippy can be a good thing.. What do you expect from a 32 inch ski stance.
Really nice what can we see it breaking trail you have no snow any machine will perform nicely and what you’re driving in
It hauls good loads like with the big boggin
I take my tundra xtreme in the mountains a lot and its really easy to side hill. Counter steering is a lotta fun with this design. Once I let someone ride it for the first time and they went 10 feet and they tipped it on its side on flat 3 foot deep powder
If we are talking tippy then lets not forget the infamous ELAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This guy is correct in saying this is a specialty machine for tight monouvering around the bush, not joy riding. Looks like my kinda machine for loging.
The thing about an Elan was when you got stuck you just picked it up and moved it. Just stay away from any slush with it. Those were great little sleds
Had a 72 Elan 250 twin, never got it stuck, it would go anywhere!
Good trail blazer and it hauls a full load of wood with the big biggin. Simple and easy to repair.
У как здорово все понял
Anyone who buys a tundra and complains about it being tippy needs to be slapped! Go buy a touring or expedition then. Tundras have been tippy from the beginning
I own a 2018 Ski Doo Tundra LT 600 ACE. I bought the wide ski liners and the temperature gauge accessories. The ski liners help quite a bit with tippyness and flotation. The 4 stroke motor us very quite, doesn't use oil, starts at 20 below zero very easily and the fuel mileage on eco mode is fenominal! I love my tundra and I'd buy another one in a heartbeat! I've never got it stuck and believe me I've tried. Went riding with a bunch of mountain sled buddies and I made it further than they did that night.
Fuel economy is definitely a great aspect to the ACE motor. Did that model have the rad?
@@granteditslifeoutdoors.9194 yes it came standard with it. I rode miles of icy trails and it never got hot. 40°f all day going slow mostly off trail riding and the temp stayed right in the middle of gauge.
All sleds were like this back in the day. It's only recently they started making these wide sleds for city slickers on groomed trails.
The 1970 Olympic 335 I grew up with / learned to ride on was tippy but lean in the corners and you would fly thru a narrow trail.
I have a 24 inch wide track deep in the bush and it works great. Not tippy just need to really throw your weight around and keep momentum. Like any sled.
my sleds from the mid to late 1990's were so much easier to work on compared to todays sleds. even changing a spark plug can be a chore now. also, sleds in back then had a lot more comfortable riding position allowing me to stretch my legs out when i wanted.
Very true Mike.
