Dan's Vintage Baseball PC

A long-time hobby collector displays and discusses his vintage baseball personal collection along with his many Supercollector friends.
The Terrible and Great White Plains Show
I waited a day before recording this video and I was still angry about how poorly this show was run. Pardon the ranting, but I said what I thought needed to be said. Despite all of the logistical nightmares, I did have a great show card-wise, hence the title.

The Fascinating Connection between these Two Vintage Baseball Postcards

Great pickups Dan. Glad you didn't bring back what I did from the White Plains show last Janauary......Covid. Three hour drive, too.
@@briankane759 Ouch. I didn’t even get COVID at the AC National!
Pinholes that save collectors $1k are great pinholes! Also, congrats on adding the Titus. At some point I'll be selling most of my T206s but my Titus will stay in my collection.
@@beansballcardblog My 53 Paige agrees!
@@DansVintageBaseballPC The stuff I'm most after is so scarce that I have to take them in any condition (assuming the price is right).
Great pickups, Dan! Those Diamond Stars are stunners! It's great you got such a great deal on your Foxx. The show looks like it was a mess!
Congrats on all the pickups Dan. That commemorative program you showed at the end was so awesome.
The brotherly love show right after Christmas in Philly was pretty bad as well. It was at a casino, and honestly your description of the aisles and trying to navigate was insane! 2 hrs. of looking around and finding space to shop was at a premium! Several guys with buggies "selling" didn't help either
Great review, Dan. I don't get a chance to go to card shows, so it is enjoyable to see you and other buddies sharing experiences and cards! Congrats on your great pickups. Some real treasures, for sure.
That autograph was worth sticking around for. Nice Diamond Stars.
I really hope the show gets better next time for you Dan. I’m sure they had to have a ton of complaints. I’m glad you still were able to pick up some amazing cards and have great interactions. The Grove and Foxx look incredible
A great list of gentlemen and their channels, Dan! I really like your 4 C’s process and I use a very similar approach
Dan, I appreciate the kind words and your vote. I am a better driver than I am vintage card grader apparently.
One of the best vids ive seen in a bit. This is one of my favorite topics. Joe was fantastic.
As a Braves team collector, I'm curious why you collect 1914 and 1948 Braves memorabilia (specifically, rather than the Braves generally). I love seeing the items you pick up, as these are Braves issues that aren't that easy to collect.
@@thebatterycarlylerood I have many many cards from each season. The memorabilia is extra.
Oh man Dan your so kind and those words you said about me and our friends was truly humbling. I listened to this yesterday sitting in my beach chair after a surf 😊. Thank you so much ❤🤙🤙
@@DoubleDvintagebaseballcards It’s all true my friend.
If this company Lucy's pulls this shit at his Hofstra show, they will shut it down quickly! Nassau County aint playin'.......
Really appreciate the vote, thank you.
Nice cards! The Martin shows its era in another way, too - he’s in the classic old-timey follow-through pose, with all his weight on his front foot, facing and leaning toward the pitcher. Swing mechanics are really different now.
Oh, wow, excellent point. Thanks for watching.
Patients id key Dan!
Great Program of the 1948 World Series. Thank you for the video Dan
Dan, that is a great Lefty Grove card!!! As a big Sox collector, that card is up there on the pantheon. The difference between an 9 and 10 is ridiculous. great buy! ~Allon
Dan, great choices and couldn't agree more with each of choices.
I really think TCG's are big enough now to have their own shows and that will reduce the congestion
Dan, I went on friday and there wasn't even a quarter of the people they had on Saturday and I had issues, I find the general public to be inconsiderate and selfish, I was looking at cards and virtually leaning against the dealer cases and had people saying excuse me expecting me to move so they can pass by, I find the "New" collector to be insufferable , They all have these massive backpacks they protrude into the aisles , they have these huge Zion cases they plop in top of display cases blocking anyone from seeing whats inside the dealer cases and I even seen people with giant cases on wheels almost like a suitcase taking up half the aisle ..and I wont even get into the Pokemon people ... The hobby I believe is passing me by and I not considerably old at the age of 52 , but I find most show experiences unenjoyable and stressful .....with that said as others have said Shriners is much better and from the videos I have seen the Philly show looks well set up
@@Schmurph3607 Yes, Philly show has been around for a long time and the promoters are outstanding. As I have noted in my recent Philly videos, the show has expanded into a second room so that there’s still plenty of room to move around.
Great nominations! I agree with all of them1
Photos of friends are always great! Sorry to hear about the County Center’s experience! I wondered what would happen when the show changed promoters! I’ll go again in August and see what happens!
This is right up my alley. Great interview Dan!
I remember walking out of the show because I had enough of the logjam traffic and saw Mookie and Pete leaving as well. It was just too much. However, it was great seeing you, Jake, Keith and Brian. I'm so pleased to see that you picked up the Seaver. That Foxx pickup is stuff of legends! As Mookie put it, a wounded buffalo.
Very nice content and great cards. Did subscribe. I am glad I did not attend this time crazy crowds. I used to set up at that show back with gloria rothstein ran it. Have a nice day .
Love those Diamond Stars!
Thank you Dan for the nomination man. Feel honored to be in this list among some superstar channels! A lot of big things happening in 2025!
Great video. Thanks.
Really fun video Dan. Great comments & cards.
Sounds like a very frustrating beginning to the show. It looks very tough to move through. Great pickups though. I really love those Diamond Stars. I’m working on a HOF run on that set myself. Coincidentally, the Carl Hubbell that I have from that set, I also bought from a modern dealer at a local show. He had no idea how it found its way into his stuff he just wanted that “thing” gone. Got it for a great price. Thanks for the video and thanks for sharing!
Great pickups, great photos with great guys! Sorry the show was a mess.
That’s one good thing about the Shriners. There’s plenty of room . Great pickups with the Jimmie & Lefty. There’s a great article on the SABR baseball card site all about the Diamond stars set.
Great breakdown!
Great video. I like that you tell the story behind the card and appreciate each player whether a star or a minor footnote in the long history of baseball.
Dan, you are a real trooper. That's a long line outside. In Maryland, at my local card show. I walk right in. No problem. Lefty Grove. A great Maryland legend. And Jimmie Foxx! Maybe I will come down, to NY card show one day, but when the weather, is bit warmer. Would be a fun experience meeting the RUclips hobby, legends such as yourself.
Bravo octavio
Dan. Check out Jimmy Doolittle from that Medwick card. He has an amazing story.
Your comments about the show remind me of the great Yogism “No one goes there, it's too crowded”. :). I was in the back of the show by SGC. Sorry I missed you, but thanks for the shoutout. I made more individual sales on Saturday than I ever have at a card show, including the National. It was very busy, and I could see where some dealers could get overwhelmed and frustrated. I know that the promoters got plenty of feedback for improvement, and I actually feel good about the future of the show. A couple of easy tweaks, and this show immediately gets back to one of the best shows in the country.
Thanks for stopping by and checking out of the video. Happy you had a good show and I will definitely seek you out next time, if I can find you!
Eric , I just wanted to thank you again for the deal on the 65 Mick and that beautiful 61 MVP Mick, I still can't find you on Ebay hahaa..
Fantastic Foxx, Dan!
Dan you have such great videos! Thank you for the exceptional detail and commentary!
Thank you for the kind words!
Aren't New Yorker's used to long lines? I like that Foxx card. Would love to land one some day.
Drew you've been to NYC, you know we don't like to wait needlessly for anything!
Glad I went Friday! 😂 Dealers were already complaining about the aisle space Friday and it wasn’t crowded yet. I walked right in Friday but I’ve never been even down the stairs maybe one or two people ahead of to get inside. That line is insane.
Nice pick ups Dan. I had a similar experience with the Brotherly Love show in Philadelphia. Super packed and people bumping into each other.
Great pickups, Dan. The Diamond Stars look really good in terms of eye appeal. Thanks for sharing, and hopefully it's a better setup next time.
Great nominations Dan. Some I’m familiar with and some I’m not. I will definitely be checking them out. Thanks for the video!
Maybe this will open ppls eyes up about Jimmy and how good he was with running all of his shows over the years
@@nunzi83 No question. I don’t think we realized how good we had it with Jimmy.
Looks a preview of a Chicago national in Rosemont thin rows with backpacker bumpers on tow.
