The Truth About Rolex Rarity
A very quick discussion about Rolex availability and the waitlist issue.
For clarity no one knows the exact numbers but production output and the number of ADs is generally accepted to be in the range I used for my calculations. Even with a 10% margin of error either way for both these primary factors, the range of potential outcomes isn’t so different as to alter my general impression of the results.

Strela Chronograph Watch Review (Стрела)
4 month of servicing, wow, i'd rather sell it and give myself a new, fresh experience, it's incredibly wrong
@@kkatpheiz yeah watches be so tough that way, I had warrany service done on a Tissot once. It was nearly 5 months. The waits can be super long. I understand what you mean. I wouldn’t blame someone for wanting to sell if you could get a good price. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
The quality of stores can vary significantly. Some stores attract more customers and generate higher sales, whereas others may not perform as well. It is essential to analyze sales reports for each store, even those with lower sales figures. It may seem unnecessary to allocate resources to stores with lower sales, but every location is important for brand presence. Moreover, the strategic decision to limit production numbers by Rolex contributes to maintaining the brand's exclusivity and high value in the luxury market.
@@cedbruise3751 absolutely, allocation definitely varies by region and by store. That said, while I agree Rolex likely has no interest in going back to the days of constant availability, their current production levels are considerably lower than they’d prefer. Their massive investment in new production facilities is an indicator of that. There is just far too much money being left on the table. They can only increase prices so much, the best way to increase profits is get more units into retail. I think as watch enthusiasts we forget that many prospective buyers really don’t follow the hype and the scarcity stuff. They just go into a store to buy a gift and end up buying something else, because it’s what’s available. We’ll see over the next few years how it all shakes out. I really appreciate your comment!
Rare? Not at all, as rare as a Seiko
@@jlozano2014 well like I said, made in huge quantities, but still not huge enough. Demand is the issue. There are a bunch of stores at any mall that have 50 seikos on display. Many Rolex AD’s often probably don’t even have access to one per day and they sell immediately. Rarity is always somewhat relative to supply and demand. There’s probably immeasurable gold in the universe, but to us it’s rare because we can’t get to it. Lucky for us there are a lot of awesome Seikos and we can’t just go….and…buy one…right now… Hey! Stop putting ideas in my head!
I don’t think they are rare at all however the demand outstrips supply. It is what it is. I’ve bought 2 so far and been waiting over a year for the third. I have a decent relationship with my ad and still waiting for GMT over a year. He says he will get me one but only gets 20 a year and has over 1000 on a list. I believe him when he tells me I wish I had a ton of these to sell but I can’t get them fast enough. I think if you really want the watch, just be patient and you will eventually get it. People get angry and start bashing the brand but the reality is if you got the call likely you will be running to the AD to pick it up.
@@Fatboylo1980-l7n yeah I’ll probably address your last point in a future video. The sort of backlash due to frustration and the effect that’s had on enthusiast perception. I see way more Rolex hate comments than I did even 5 years ago. You are right though, many people would still buy one if the opportunity arose. That GMT will be sweet when it finally arrives. Which colourway did you choose?
@ I chose the blue and black on an oyster over jubilee. Also he said he might be able to get me a Bruce Wayne quicker if I liked it and of course I do so fingers crossed I get the call this year sometime but not in a huge rush. When it happens it happens.
@ when there’s a choice I usually choose Oyster-style bracelets. It seems like a “safe” choice, but I just love them. Both colourways are really nice but I have to say I find the Bruce Wayne, really underrated. You don’t see that much praise for it, and I think it’s gorgeous.
@ I was at the AD Sunday picking up a watch for my wife and tried the Bruce Wayne on , seeing in person for the first time you’re right. It’s really nice and a hard decision between it and the Batman
@ in your shoes I’d probably be equally happy either way.
Most of that 1M go to the Middle East and Asia where the real money is. I have no desire to chase down a watch that the company has no desire to sell to me.
@@Tom_H327 yes I only briefly mentioned this by saying “assuming even distribution” because that’s a whole other video. You’re absolutely right though. A lot are, no doubt funnelled into the largest markets and the ADs catering to the wealthiest clients. I think most ADs see less than 1 per day on average, for sure.
@ Haha. Being a salesperson at a Rolex AD has to be the most non-working job in the world.
@ for real. Also think about the politics of who actually gets to sell the few watches they do get in. Frustrating because the potential for earning commission is so high, they just can’t get stock.
Lo llevaste a un técnico dentro de 5 años?😅
@@lucianovictorraulcarillome9032 Yes, I have has it serviced after 3 years. Warranty covered it.
Buy a quality Longines watch, that's all...
@@Sumerdini I definitely wouldn’t discourage someone to do that, Longines makes some really nice watches. There’s a few I’ve wanted over the years. I know there are more popular models but the Legend Diver just never leaves my wishlist. It’s cool, imo. Do you have a Longines?
just one, Longines Spirit Titanium 40mm...
@ that’s a great looking watch. I enjoy titanium watches, too. They wear super comfortably.
@ 💕
What makes it even more interesting is the different sizes of the different models that people try to go for. It might make it even harder than the math you have shows! 😮
Yeah, that’s an excellent point. In a short video it’s hard to really convey how many different models and variants they have to account for. I didn’t even mention the Yacht-Master, or Sea-Dweller. There’s also those diamond bezel models that the enthusiast community doesn’t care about but is part of their core product line, and serves a necessary and persistent part of their customer base. Thanks for your insight!
Alls the vickers vickering😂🎉
Vickers gonna vicker, brother, you can’t stop’em! LOL
I got the SBGJ227 Peacock. Most beautiful green Dial i have ever seen to this Day. After almost 8 Years it still goes +1 Second/M. No Rolex or AP does that! I also dont see the Bracelet as a big Minus; ok Mircoadjustment is lacking for sure, still not in Sight. Thickness ist the only Letdown in my Eyes; 14.4mm ist „sporty“. My Grand Seiko is a Keeper!
Peacock? A keeper for sure! Gorgeous! That accuracy is absolutely amazing! Thanks for sharing your experience!
Good value, but still take the Hamilton over this one. But it’s a cool proposition for someone who is getting started in watches
@@Juanjo191 absolutely, I’ll keep my Hamilton. I love it, but like you said this is a fantastic value and such a good starting point. Thanks for your insight!
I agree Militado is killing it. I really like what they are doing for field watches. However, until they offer a 39.5+ they will not enter my collection. I wouldnt mind triple the price with a Miyota movement. 😂
@@Tom_H327 I’ve come to love smaller watches, but full agree, with a miyota movement it’d be an instant-buy for me. Thanks for sharing your perspective!
Great idea just executed so cheap and nasty :<
Doing it with like polarised/dichroic glass so when different bits overlap you get new colours formed would be awesomer like cut the glass along polarisation axis then rotate bits and push them into the wire frame
@@isbestlizard yes I have to say the idea was amazing. I have to agree there are a lot of flaws in the execution, and in some cases it’s pretty messy. Thanks for letting me know what you think!
@@isbestlizard that would be absolutely worth exploring. I also had some ideas about layering that might improve things. I imagine they must be trying to come up with improvements too, I hope so. We’ll see!
Just got my SBGX261. I cannot stop staring at the watch. The bracelet adjustment went well even though it was my first time to do it myself. Luckily that I‘ve bought a watch toolset. I love the brand and the watch will become my daily besides a blue dial 126300.
@@zackchariah yes this is exactly it. They aren’t perfect due to a few issues, but until you see them in person you just can’t understand how amazing they look. That goes a long way. So glad you love yours, and thanks for telling me about it.
"Look at my new watch!" "What time is it?" "I dunno."
@@ebbderelict LOL yes that’s the challenge with this one. It takes a little longer than normal to get used to it. I have a few ideas about how they could improve upon that but I suspect they must be thinking up some of their own, too. Thanks for taking the time to comment! I’m a fan of your music, as you know!
GS automatic is quite lousy.. only their 9F and 9R are worth the price….
@@sorabdb9925 for longterm accuracy, I’d definitely choose a spring drive or quartz.
My Green Peacock holds still +1 Second after almost 8 Years! Not too bad 😊
Why is it lousy? It’s still a competent movement? The newer mechanic movements have specs that make mainstream Swiss movements look dated
@@hammalamiri12 I agree that they are not bad movements, and definitely well crafted using some very high tech techniques. I would prefer better accuracy but I still love the watch. Thanks for adding to the conversation.
@@robmccall5017that is amazing!
I'd gladly ignore all the flaws and get it on my wrist! It's currently at the top of my watches-to-buy list and I thank you for your review.
@@EEE_MMM awesome feedback! I can’t blame you. Even as someone with a number of criticisms, I still feel like that kinetic art aspect is amazing. I hope you love it. Please come back and let me know how you like yours when you get one!
I’m thinking about getting this exact watch, to add a durable daily with lots of fun colour. I’m in Montreal too, so might try to buy it locally somewhere
@@HotSauceStain I know they’re launching another pre-order very soon. The last batch sold out so fast. I really do think it’s worth signing up. I actually really like the Ghost models too, but I haven’t seen one in person, yet. Very original look. Let me know if you pick one up. I want to know how you like it.
If it had a better movement, would be a hands-down winner for me! I love to look at it moving 😂 I would also pay a bit more and get the needed improvements.
@@gengen811 yeah I agree, I really hope Humism keeps going and creates another generation of upgraded models. I think they started something really great and it could become something special. I look forward to what they come up with.
The watch sure has me mesmerized😎
@@henry605 yeah it’s good at doing that, for sure! LOL
The ML07 at 36mm is even better.
@@joshsher6327 I’m going to try to get the other Militado watches in too, for review. Thanks for letting me know about the ML07!
Both my Grand Seikos-a SBGR253 and SBGJ213-all run within the original spec but the SBGJ213 had to be sent into GS for service. It was running progressively slower after two years of ownership which is not surprising because I purchased new it five years after its manufacturing date. It has a titanium case and GS did not repolish it with my factory service.
Good review. subscribed
@@SingleTrackMined thanks so much for the feedback. It’s great to hear you enjoyed it!
grand seikos are so lovly to own
@@phillippugh2161 yes, they are. It’s hard to convey in a video. They have to be experienced in person. Thanks for commenting!
Still in five years they refuse to put a Tfit on its bracelet. Not worth paying $6000 plus and not having a Tfit on the fly adjustment. GS won’t hear their customers complaint. They don’t care, u rather spend my money on a Rolex
@@JohnnyBeans-w9k I still love their watches but I understand why someone would choose a watch with micro-adjust, instead. Even for me.c I will only get another one if they introduce a new clasp. I am glad to own this one, though.
GS are hearing their customer complaints and I’ve talked to some of their UK marketing team about this. There is a prototype however they refuse to do what other brands do which is to get one ready made from Hong Kong. Tudor have done that , IWC have done that. GS want to be in house and develop their own it will come but unfortunately probably in 2026 because it’s hard to be in house in every small component of your watch. I’ve always had a good fit on their bracelets and actually think the screw system, the design of the clasp, the taper are far more important areas to fix then on the fly adjustment
@ I love the commitment you remaining in-house, that said I understand your point. It adds difficulty. I really like the angle of the clasp and how it conforms to the wrist, being designed to follow the curve. I still want micro-adjust but I think a simple fix they could work on would be to introduce a larger screw system. I’m used to it now, but the screws are practically microscopic. Full length is the way.
7:18 I don't care about heritage and history and who did what for horology, they manipulate you to buy their shit . Lies to justify their bang average watches ⌚️ for thousands of dollars 💸 for that tissot I wouldn't pay 30 $ not good looking and the quality is average.
$3k watches are out of my comfort zone but this seems like a poor ownership experience. A buddy has had a used Rolex Submariner for probably 20 yrs needing nothing more than a tune-up every 4 yrs or so at ~$300 done locally.
@@johns6816 yeah it’s no small purchase. I know what you mean, in that I have some complaints, but with Grand Seiko, I think it’s not really the sum total of the experience. With something like Rolex it’s usually hard to find a single complaint. Your buddy probably experienced that. They have a bad rap these days with some people but they make superb well-rounded watches. With Grand Seiko, it’s a more lopsided experience. High highs and low lows. The watch, in person, is just beyond description. It’s as gorgeous as it gets. I’ve had my complaints but when I wear it I tend to forget them. The micro-adjust issue definitely takes it down a peg, though. Thanks for your feedback. Can I ask what some of your favourite watches are?
@@AutomaticReviewsOfficial In short sleeve weather I love my Casio Duro, one each on different NATO straps. My other watches are mostly sentimental. If I had crazy money I would have a couple Omega Aqua Terras from the 50s and 60s. Mine and my GF's grandfathers had gold Hamilton and Benrus watches with inscriptions on the backs from retirement, both are early 60s and still run. I should wear them more.
@ the Duro is a great all-rounder, I have a solar Seiko I wear in similar circumstances on a NATO, too. I’d absolutely love a vintage Omega, too. The vintage Hamilton and Benrus watches are already really cool watches but that they were your grandfather’s turns them up all the way to platinum tier watches. I wish I had watches from either of my grandfathers. Thanks for telling me about your collection!
You could also get a GS movement easily regulated every few years for less than that. The higher end watch you own the more it will need maintenance it’s just a simple fact of luxury watch ownership and many enjoy that aspect of it. It’s like getting your nice car valet / serviced far more often then a cheap run around
@ yes that’s true but all of my other high end watches have held regulation better, between service intervals. Many of my lower end watches have, as well. It might just be the luck of the draw. Luckily there’s still a lot to love, here.
Just picked up the SLGA023. Stunning piece.
@@MyZippy13 what a crazy good pickup. Epic watch! Congratulations! Thanks for sharing that.
Diving extention on a 5 ATM watch? At least 10 ATM would be a perfect everyday-watch...
@@NovemberFoxtrot747 I would prefer 100m but so far no issues with 50m. That said, I totally agree the diving extension makes zero sense on this watch. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
A Walter Mitty watch. Meal Team 6 doesn't get wet.
I got one in Sept last year. It is 2 sec per month accurate. 😊
@@roadgent7921 yeah it’s absolutely rock solid reliable. Thanks for sharing your experience!
I don’t have a GS…yet… I really want a Shunbun. I wonder if that one is easier to photograph. Also, I don’t mind scratches on a watch, it shows you love it and also they catch the light and look a little rainbow. 🌈😊
I do think the Shunbun would photograph better for sure with that dial. I’d actually really love one too, or the Taisetsu. I think the Spring Drive would eliminate my accuracy gripes, for sure. Scratches really can give a watch character. Thanks so much for the feedback!
That split screen is a great way of showing the similarities.

@ that’s great, I’m glad you got a good deal.
I've had my Atlantic Blue Heron Marinor for about a month now and your review is spot on. The attention to detail and build quality makes it well worth the price.
@@tjheron the Atlantic Blue also looks gorgeous. Good thing you grabbed one when you did, looks like they sold out fast. Thanks so much for your feedback, I appreciate it a lot! I agree with you completely Heron is showing signs of becoming a big microbrand with their smart designs, clever materials, and serious attention to detail.
I have owned several of both brands, and still own three SM watches. Sorry to all those Swiss brand lovers, but SM watches are presently head and shoulders above anything Tissot make.
@@watchalot919 that’s the thing. I love Swiss watches but you have to be honest, and the truth is San Martin offers more for less money. Thanks for your feedback!
since u got metal bracelet.. are you able to take shower with watch?
@@bheksuh352 I usually take watches off to shower but I think you’d be fine wearing it in the shower. Some people hesitate to but if your seals have been been tested within a year it should be fine. Good idea to stop into a store and ask for a pressure test, once per year for watches you get wet.
I wonder why they don t make a green dial !!!!
@@jack.charlesc4750 fully agree, this watch would look great in an olive drab green. Thanks for watching!
That texture dial is boring. It’s nothing special. Less is more. It’s subjective, but it’s been done before much better.
@@AMore429 yes, absolutely it’s subjective, that’s why I was curious why you feel that way. I want to have insight into everyone’s opinions. I agree similar dials like this have been around in some forms like Grand Seiko stuff which is definitely amazing, but I genuinely think the finishing for the price is excellent here. That said, I know Addiesdive has something similar for the same or less money. I haven’t seen it in person though. Thanks for letting me know what you think. I don’t have any loyalty to the brand, I’m doing the videos for you guys, not the companies. I rather liked this one, and it’s cool when you guys do too, but I also want to know when you guys don’t. Can I ask what your favourite watch is in this price range? I might learn about a new brand.
I usually rather pay a little more and get more quality and originality. On my wrist today is my Henry Archer, that just arrived today. Very excited. It looks great and it was reasonably priced.
@ Yeah I understand. That’s been my approach, too. That said, when I decided to make more reviews, I realized it was important for me to understand all sides of the market. It’s been really fun so far. Funny you mention Henry Archer, I was checking out the Vesterhav model last week and finding myself interested. They look super nice. Hopefully I’ll get one so I can review it, and also they look like keepers. Thanks again for your insight, friend.

@@AutomaticReviewsOfficial Looking forward to your upcoming videos!
The main question for me is: Do I really want to support brand like San Martin? All their products are just homage watches to every famous model from other brands. What is their addition to watch world? Sure...a lot of brands have like 1-2 homage models and thats fine but not building their whole brand on it. Im not a rich a guy I wear affordable watches certina, tissot, hamilton and I choose to support original every single time. Nice review btw and I dont want to offend anyone its just my opinion.
@@ziro9122 it’s a really fair perspective. I dabble in homage watches because as a reviewer I have to know what’s out there. I also hear a lot of people claiming that “homage x is better than original y” so for me I want to dig in and see what truth, if any, there is to it. I’m trying to bust myths a little and give the best info I can. In the case of San Martin, I absolutely agree but with models like the 0129 and the 0144 you can see them introducing their own aesthetic. To me, that’s admirable. I won’t be quitting my Swiss watch habit any time soon, but like I talked about in the video, I think entry level Swiss brands need to pay attention and ungrade some standard features. Shouldn’t have to pay $4k or more to have a well functioning bracelet. I really loved to hear your insight, and absolutely appreciate you taking your time to share your thoughts. It means a lot.
Really original watches, what have they done that so groundbreaking just made complicated watches to tell time.they are just a fashion piece just to show status that's all.We are idiots to put watchmaker on pedestal they don't deserve it,have they made a difference people lives na i don't think so.
@ some of us enjoy watches, they bring us joy, but they aren’t for everyone, and that’s ok, too. Each of us has to pursue what we enjoy. Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback.
Most people think casio is a big major brand , guess what 70% of their watches are copies . But nobody criticise cause you a big brand , you get my point ? Sheeps 🐑 care more about the history reputation status , who did what for horology than their own opinion or taste , no hope at all for these people, you just make them rich for bang average watches
@ I talk a bit about this in my Militado ML05 review. Designs we see as iconic for Timex, or Hamilton, are actually derived from older Benrus designs. I do think creating new designs is good for the industry, but I also think that all brands get inspiration from what’s come before. Thanks for your perspective!
Thanks for the interesting review. I own the watch with a red dessert dial, Picked it up for about 200 Eur on 11/11. It is a decent watch but I have 2 complaints: the NH35 movement is poorly regulated at-20 s/d( once again I will have to do it on my own like on my 3 other SMs) and the push button is still very gritty and hard to operate -,even after applying a good amount of lubrication. The finish otherwise is at least comparable to 1000+x $ watches. Would still buy it again though QC is SMs biggest issue. I own three other watches with ST1901/1908 Sea-Gull movements from other brands and they all came with a decent regulation between -2 and + 4 s/d…
@@thomasstock7634 I find most NH35s tend to be a bit inconsistent on regulation out of the box, I agree, I wish all watches came well regulated. I find the crown quite smooth on mine, but like you said it’s luck of the draw unless QC is prioritized. Really appreciate your feedback!
Thanks for your reply, it is very much appreciated. The grittiness refers to the push button on the clasp which is very stiff. Not so on my SN0116 and SN0119.
@ my pleasure! My clasp is ok too. I guess I got lucky. For the money it’s an amazing package. I’m really looking forward to what else they come up with. Will be reviewing the 0144 too, soon.

@ I have a PRX and I really like it. It’s an affordable Swiss watch that punches above its pricepoint, I think. I’ll do a review in the near future.
Why is your channel name automatic reviews? :)
@@szakacselod8452 good question. It’s because I do a lot of reviews of automatic watches. Though, I do manual winding watches, and even quartz, too, I just liked the way it sounded.
I prefer Addisdive version, still, make us a review!
@@antevrankovic4539 I’m definitely going to get some Addisdive watches in for review! I saw a few that were really nice, and for a really good price! My review for this one will be up this week!
Just ordered this one preowned. Really excited. Manual wind no date DIVER!!? Plus, unique dial color. This is a unicorn watch I think. Must have.
@@TheWayofGrace89 FULLY agree. All these years later I still wear this one a ton. It’s got way more wear on it than most of my watches because it’s the one I grab when I want a trusty companion. It’s one of my favourite watches. Also, that bracelet is just perfect. The micro-adjust rivals 10k+ watches. Always a perfect fit. Thanks for telling me about your order. Please let me know how you like it! Which colourway did you get?

@@AutomaticReviewsOfficialoh, I got the drab green. Always. Big fan of the Hamilton Khaki Mechanical date with drab green dial as well. They’re about to become a one-two punch collection for me.
@ yeah, I hear you. When drab green is available for anything I usually can’t resist it. Something about that colour is just perfect. Looking forward to hearing how you like it.
@@AutomaticReviewsOfficialWell, I got the watch. I can’t believe how well-crafted it is. The bracelet having on the go micro adjust is incredible, and the clasp is superb. Proportionally perfect dive watch. This is truly a gem!!
