Scania R620 V8 hauled Roadtrain climbing Marandoo Hill in manual gear.
If you drive Auto transmission trucks with heavy loads in steep hilly country here is one way I've found of ensuring you don't embarrass yourself and stall on the big hills. I had two extendable trailers loaded with large long Poly water pipes close to 45 metres in length. I apologise for the poor quality of the vid but for you trucking fans, especially the drivers I hope you can learn a little bit about how to avoid the old trap of thinking the auto transmission can do it all for you.

Large Rio Tinto Iron ore train GNH Yandi Mine Road Crossing Full length
Просмотров 6382 года назад
I happened to be stopped by a large loaded Rio Tinto Iron Ore train coming from Yandi mine in the Pilbara region of Northwestern Australia, on the Great Northern Highway. I was using my old phone which was not the best but if you have a few minutes to spare and bored with yourself this is nearly all of the train including triple locos pushing from the rear. locos are all GE's ES44DCI and C44-9W...

    Dear John, just came across your videos. Seems like that you have never done any Video of your Truck itself. Did you like driving the Scania? Was it any good compared to the American types? Cheers from Germany

    I've opened this video up to comments. Must be plenty of Armchair warriors out there wanting to critique my proven method of getting heavily laden Auto trucks with Multiple trailers safely up and over steep hills and grades.

    Hello Dave, pleased to make your aquaintance as well. Although I gave it away when the Govt sold the ole NZR off the interest is still strong as ever. now I'm relishing watching the big Yankee muscle loco's strutting their stuff whenever I venture out into the Pilbara region to the mines. I never met your Dad whilst on the job, but it seems he liked the old English Electric locos a bit. Apart from working the DE's on and DSC's that is the limit of my Pommie loco experience. Thx John Parkinson

    yeah , great video, thanks, I see in a comment on another video, that you are an ex NZR driver. My late father, Ron Harris, was an engine driver in Te Rapa, for many years. I also was a TX , in Te Rapa, relieving in Kinlieth, & Taumarunui. Dad used to love the Dx`s, but had soft spot for the old Df`s, & also the Di`s. Dave Harris

    @johnparkimp3 Road Trains run through my town in Western NSW every day but no B Triples at this stage. Vic Has Road Train goin on the Sturt Hwy under permit and Ceva run B Triples between the Ford plants in Melbourne

  • @johnparkimp3
    @johnparkimp3 12 лет назад

    @aussiefirie Thank you for your comment. Yes that is correct provided you can find a Roadtrain or B triple approved route in those states.

  • @aussiefirie
    @aussiefirie 12 лет назад

    @johnparkimp3 I've actually missed a bit in my comment. In NSW and Vic you must have "Long Vehicle" on the front and back of them.

  • @johnparkimp3
    @johnparkimp3 12 лет назад

    @aussiefirie Not correct bloke. Don't know where you got your info from. It's the overall length that dictates what is or is not a Roadtrain. You need to aquaint yourself with WA's rules as well because they are different to SA's. The only change in SA is that they now allow B Triples and Roadtrains to up their speed to 100kph North and West of Port Augusta.

  • @aussiefirie
    @aussiefirie 12 лет назад

    @johnparkimp3 To be classed as a Road Train the trailers need to be conected by a dolly. A B Triple is just a B Double with another "A" hooked up at the front

    Those G.E.s do sound good. I know for a fact that if you had waited with camera at the ready, you would have have had to wait hours for a train, if one came at all.

    @kingbrude RT signs on B triples is a WA exclusive as lets face it they really are a RT albeit in another form. Its better than Sth Aust insisting we show Long vehicle signs within their borders. Speaking of which we are not required by law to show LV signs with triples in SA, but many drivers do to avoid being hassled by the RTA.

    @johnparkimp3 That particular guy left for an overseas job but I am working on it. But you know what BHP is like, you've got to do a 10 point check and fill out a form just to go to the dunny these days. If you want to see some good cab ride vids check out Outbackspot.

  • @johnparkimp3
    @johnparkimp3 14 лет назад

    @gm16v149 Thanks for the heads up on the locos in the consists. Whilst I could easily pick out the SD40-2's and the SD70's you've just refreshed my memory about the Goninan -8's. Couldn't conn your driver contact into giving you a cab ride in the new SD 70's and making a vid could you??

  • @gm16v149
    @gm16v149 14 лет назад

    Being a bit of a train buff I can tell you the lead loco is a Goninan Dash 8 (Australian cab) and the second 2 locos I'm pretty sure are EMD SD 40s. The 2nd & 3rd sets are Dash 8s & EMD SD70s Those BHP trains are grossing 35,000 tons or more with the new EMD SD 70s. One of the train drivers up there gave me some driver's manuals on these locos :)

  • @johnparkimp3
    @johnparkimp3 14 лет назад

    Good ole WA gets right to the point and a B Triple because of the length is a road train. Sth Aust are the silly buggers who want you to change the signs at the border to Long Vehicle. It would be a lot easier to have a standard ruling across the whole of Australia. SA also makes Triples and Raoad Trains run with headlights on all the time. Makes it easier for the Rozzers to single you out if you commit the heinous crime of exceeding 90kph.

  • @johnparkimp3
    @johnparkimp3 14 лет назад

    @enius6 I'm not entirely sure but they regularly haul up to 20,000 tons, depends of the number of loco's on the head and whatever is placed midtrain. The different horsepowers of this hotch potch batch of loco's has a big bearing on what tonnages they can haul. The Dash 9's with the Australian cabs have just been put up for auction if anyone want's to buy one. lol

    @gm16v149 best of luck with tracking down the oil leak. I'll keep a lookout for you and try not to confuse you with the normal Bunkers cabovers. lol

  • @johnparkimp3
    @johnparkimp3 14 лет назад

    @gm16v149 Not advisable in SA NSW and QLD, unless you want to contribute to their consolidated fund. B Triples and Road Trains are limited to 90kmh. You can get done for being in violation of your permit and some sad coppers will also tear up your permit on the spot. Best not to go there mate.

  • @johnparkimp3
    @johnparkimp3 14 лет назад

    @gm16v149 Yes my colleagues tell me it made a mess of the Bunker's cabover that was involved. Lucky the driver got out of it okay too.

    @johnparkimp3 I've got the sump off at the mo' fixing an oil leak, normally a one day job but probably take 6 weeks with me doing it....it's got the Cat Brakesaver sump, not an easy job. You won't find it hard to recognise my truck because it's the only blue cabover on the run...doesn't look anything like a Bunkers with the bullbar & aircleaners etc.

  • @gm16v149
    @gm16v149 14 лет назад

    @johnparkimp3 Yeah, but can't B-Triples do 100 kmh in SA because they are a long vehicle and not a roadtrain? Not sure about that one.
