Carrera Crosscity e-Bike Battery Range Test
The Carrera Crosscity has a stated maximum range of 30 miles, about 48 km, but how far does it really go if you use only the highest power level all the time? There is only one way to find out.
Join us us we cycle the Waterford Grenway from the Clonea Road car park, just outside Dungarvan, to Waterford and back again, about 84 km in total.

/// Ali-Express - New Battery /// Has anyone ever bought a bike battery replacement or new one from Ali express?... I'm looking at getting a 5 pin one for my Carrera cross City e bike and even with delivery costs and potentially import fees, itd still likely be cheaper than direct from Halfords (I e. - £160-260 vs. £360-400 Halfords). Thoughts or experiences anyone? Thanks!
Sir still we cannot take electric cars for long distance s still batteries charging time n batteries capacities are problems. Unless lighter batteries n more charging stations cold weathers are no no to keep electric car as ownership . I have a lease ioniq 5 the only thing is free charging for 2 years .I think the hyp created by ev companies is too much .still they are expensive n average I calculate kilometers is 160 for 33kwh consumption s . Yes the regeneration on long distance is not much yes for city drivers is excellent in relation to gasoline cars . So I still think only hybrid vehicles is better then full evs .But it might take 10 years to come up with lighter n small batteries with hi capacities of kwh . If n when toyota lauches a full ev car . Then I will be the first one to buy it . For me the ev presently like new toy with no resale values at all
That looks like an amazing place to go for a cycle. I was looking for reviews of this bike and glad I found this video.
Thank you for this test, Where did you buy this spare battery? Appreciate this 👍
Halfords in Newry
We had and have planes around the world. They have secure service, documents checking. What's happened? Defence from whom? So throwing away poor Ukrainian people from hotels means defence. I am so sorry. Not famous, not remarkable but don't afraid.
It's got foldable pedals, but how to fold them. Please explain.
You push them towards the frame and turn them 90 degrees. It’s very easy.
how about closing the CAR windows???
There are physical buttons for that.
I was looking to have the battery tested, but it seems that's is not available in Ireland. Any advise will be appreciated. Thanks

Great update, although it was difficult to see the details (numbers etc.) on some slides.
I would like to see two things with regards to public charge points; 1. There are lots of slow chargers ( 11 or 22 kw) around the country that should be upgraded to fast chargers. This would probably be cheaper than installing new high power chargers. They are currently largely useless to long distance travelers. 2. We should not need apps or RFID cards or key fobs. We don't need them to put fuel into ICE cars. The EV fueling process should be simple. We should be able to pull in to a station, swipe our credit card and put in the plug. End of story! Many people are not good with apps or phones or technology. More that 20% of our population do not have functional literacy. It must be a simple process. Thank you Joe
Point 1, we agree with this, as there are a lot of underutilised charge points in certain parts of the country. The switch from an AC to DC has happened in a number of locations, but these needs to be balanced with the mixture of AC and DC requirements in the future and not just here and now. We are about to see a ~3x increase in DC charging in the next 18 months, in a more planned approach for long distance travellers. So if these sites are suitable for this, we expect these to be upgraded. If they don’t fall under this, then staying as AC is the correct use of this charger. Point 2, we completely agree with this. It is in effect exclusionary by having AFIR only target 50kW+ for access through tap&charge and ease of access in the requirements. We see this as being something that will need to be addressed in the destination and neighbourhood charging consultation that is currently open. We will be responding as an association, but it is import as individuals to highlight this as well.
Good and informative video.
Thank you!
Thx just saved me 250$ for a diagnostic
Awesome!
Kenmare Bay Hotel has installed 50 destinations charters for customers.
From my experience there needs to be more DC (100kws min) charges installed on national primary routes (every 30 - 40kms). Particularly along the west coasts Donegal to Kerry. Very poor infrastructure in place.
How do you turn on walk mode plz ??
There is no walk mode as far as I know.
@IrishEVOwnersAssociationIEVOA OK thanks for the reply 👍 I thought thier was
My family has three Nissan Leaf cars, with great thanks to Barry McMahon and Eamon Stack of ‘Range Therapy’. Never going back. Greetings from the west.
That's awesome!
Any update if the ESB will reduce the price of on street charging as quickly as they increased it. They increased it over night when the war in Ukraine started but are now dragging their heels at dropping prices even though the cost of whole sale electricity has dropped. I have contacted numerous times and keep getting the same answer “they will review prices in the coming months”
I'm afraid your guess is as good as mine but I would expect a reduction if the wholesale prices stay low or decrease further.
@@IrishEVOwnersAssociationIEVOA I wish the ESB realised their exorbitant pricing is affecting people staying with evs or taking them up in the first place. If you live in an apartment and don’t have a charger and have to rely on ESB chargers, owning an ev becomes just as expensive to run as a fossil car without the convenience of being able to refuel within minutes. I’ve owned an ev since 2020 and now seriously considering going back to diesel. More lobbying from your association is needed to highlight this issue to government and the ESB. I can’t understand how Tesla can charge 36c to use a 250kwh charger and to use an “ESB high power charger” costs .68c per kWh nearly double the price yet the tax payer funded the charging stations for the ESB and Tesla funded their own? Only explanation is ignorance and greed no doubt.
I think Tesla is an outlier. I believe Ionity and EasyGo prices are similar to ESB ecars.
@@IrishEVOwnersAssociationIEVOA ESB sets the market price per se, their charging stations taxpayer funded and have a responsibility to ensure affordable charging to ensure people with transition over to EVs if they reduce their prices other suppliers will reduce their pricing also. We currently are one of the most expensive countries in Europe to own an ev. By ignoring the this issue all that will happen is people will stop purchasing evs, why did people back in the 2000s switch to diesel, because owning a diesel was more economical than petrol, the same will happen if evs are cheaper to run people will switch, at the moment if having to rely on ESB chargers they are not cheaper and more of an inconvenience.
Thanks. Great review.
Hiya I have the same bike 2 one for me and one for my partner sadly they stole one of them. But I have question if you don't mind the one you switched the bike on from the top not from were the battery were the level low to hi the lights on the switch start flashing one and 3 together do you have any idea why. Thanks.
I haven't seen that before. Is your battery still functioning as normal otherwise?
This may help: www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/carrera-crosscity-e-led-flashing-no-power.44183/
Correction for 2:20 : the Kia Soul can only pull 7 kW from a "standard 22 kW charge point". As far as I know, only Renault cars can pull the full 22 kW.
Is the residents apartments above the garage? I was given an excuse that it is not allowed if there is a residential building above the garage.
There are no apartments above the garage.
How much does a new battery cost and how long does a new battery last please ? Great review thank you .
A new battery costs £400. I’m not sure how long it lasts. We had to buy new batteries in 2021 because we forgot to keep them charged and we didn’t use them for almost 2 years due to an injury and Covid restrictions. The new batteries are still going strong but we top them up every 3 weeks or so during the winter months when we don’t cycle.
What is the climate temperature set in the cabin?
Not sure. Fairly normal I think.
Great to see these real world reviews by owners.
I never see a stupid system in the world like in Ireland. You need to have special card to charge your car in a fast public charger. In any other country you can use a debit or credit card, very comfortable for any user…
I’m 20 stone would I be ok to get one of these bikes
In the specifications the maximum rider weight is 100kg, which is 15.75 stone.
Not available in Ireland and unlikely to be due to the small size of the Tesla SC network here with only 8 locations. But handy perhaps in Europe or UK if more conveniently located on some motorway routes than Ionity or other independent providers.
It will probably happen here as well once we get more and bigger locations.
How could you make it go faster can you feed a 500W motor on the battery
Useful information. Thanks. We are planning to take the ferry to Santander from England in 2025 and travel back into France making our way to Toulouse to visit family. Our car is a VW ID.3 with around 400km range in summer so we are hoping to manage using predominantly Ionity. The pollution disc seems like a no brainer from what I read. We'll probably come back on the west coast and up through Brittany to Roscoff. We have plenty of time to do our planning and are hoping that we will be able to trickle charge overnight on campsites too. We are very much looking forward to the trip.
The drive you did was mostly hyghway? If so, the range is not bad at all.
Yes it was.
Here in Central Europe, the traffic jams can be even up to 6 hour... in a summer time 2-4 hours is a "norm"... now imagine EV car stuck in a summer time traffic jam and cabin with the kids...death trap.
Just use air conditioning.
@@IrishEVOwnersAssociationIEVOA Did you tried it at 32°C in a shadow and stuck on a highway for a couple of hours? ...I did...an was luckly alone, so I just cut the power untill the road was open. Then the next power station joint was crowded and a waiting line was four hours as EV cars from the traffic jam run off the power. Not a one time experience, until I simply quit EVs and went back to 'classics'. People I know with EVs are driving a backup gas powered generator which is a nosense.
I have just obtained this model of bike, initially on loan to see if I can get on with it. Never having owned an e bike it strikes me as a complicated piece of kit but with luck within a week or two I should know how the thing operates. The first thing I noticed about it is how heavy it is, luckily am not intending to use it for urban commuting/ rail travel. It is simply for my 1.5 mile daily commute to work, all downhill on the way in but the journey back hime is a different story (after 12 hour shift with cumbersome work clothing). Thank you for uploading this presentation.
So what difference between the electric van and a marginally bigger electric SUV. Bit of a idiot, alas the EV "craze" will die out shortly. Price, lack of grant will put an end to it. Even the cheap MG's have all gone up 2K and grant is down 1.5K so thats 3.5k increase this year alone. PS. VW has slowed its EV production.
Thanks
A superb review....Well done! I've just ordered the Top-of the -Range Iconic model in the UK (with that excellent Heat Pump). It was a straight choice between a Tesla Model 3 or the Megane, both were the same price.....No contest! The sterile, poor build quality, horrid interior, ugly Tesla is so dated compared to the Renault. It's tech is so 'yesterday'. Brilliant move by Renault going to the experts, Google! By the way, Renault say the 0-60 time is 7.5 Sec, but independent reviewers have clocked it at 6.9 Sec (that's Mini Cooper S territory, but without the instant torque).......how typically French, underplaying!
12:52 The current setting has been lowered from 16A to 5A by the car, probably because of voltage issues. Sadly, if it happens at the beginning of the charge there is nothing you can do since you have no physical access to cars when at sea, and then the state of charge on arrival may be quite less than anticipated. At 5A the power is around 1000 W so after 18 hours of travel it will just make 18 kWh, but hopefully it will be enough to drive to a fast charging station. Anyway, even if it can be convenient, I think charging onboard should be avoided since the electricity is 100% produced with the worse fuel, better charging in France with a very low CO2 electricity. I do not know for Ireland, is there a lot of wind turbines ? But of course, having a charge point on the ship is a nice backup.
A warnings. Don't scan the QR code. Download the app yourself. QR codes are susceptible to hijacking, a sticker over the original QR code and bingo you are downloading a malicious app or going to a bad website.
It be easier if they made one card/app like Public Transport Leap car and use it on any of the charging systems.Fxxkin' joke having 6+ accounts just for public charging!
I miss the days of free charging
I don't, too many freeloaders overstaying!
ESB, EasyGo, ePower, Ionity, Kia charge, Applegreen, Gocharge, Monta. Any more out there?
I already have six different apps for charging, this is exactly what I needed - app number seven 😢
My guess is it will probably get worse until there is some consolidation and the smaller players get bought by bigger companies.
Is the Government still giving incentives/Rebates etc. to Irish drivers thinking of purchasing an EV for example a Tesla Model 3 RWD 2023 model, Thanks.
You can get a grant of up to €5,000 for battery-powered electric vehicles (BEV). The maximum grant will be reduced to €3,500 from 1 July 2023. The grant for BEVs only applies to new cars with a full price of between €14,000 and €60,000.
@Irish EV Owners Association Thanks for your quick reply. This all helps make a decision on my total purchase fee's.
Great news Inge. I too saw those charge points on Plugshare and enquired about them to the staff who even picked up the phone and rang senior management to confirm they did not exist. Next time ask a member of staff if they could enquire from management a timeframe for the completion of installation. Maybe in time for autumn ? Ev Box are the provider in Connemara and Donegal national park so would assume the same here.
La voiture est immatriculée en France ?
Did you check the settings? The suggested route might be the most economic one
I would still expect the fast route to be faster than the short route. What is your experience with route variations?
Amazing clear & informative information! Well done
This was one of the best how to videos I've seen. I came for one thing and he showed me 3 in less than a minute. I'm hooked
great share
Utility companies gouging the public should be addressed.
My range at present April is 4.3mkWh which I think works out at 14 4kWh/100KM. I do mostly motorway / A Road (440KM/270Mile potential Range ) . Maintaining a constant 100KM cruise speed, low regen I find efficient. What time lost by the slower speed is negated by not having to stop more to recharge -+ the saving on not using the higher price public Rapid charger electricity.
