Hello, my name is Anthony! I upload occasional videos from my adventures in the Yukon and Northern Canada. Usually they involve bikes, hiking, packrafts or some combination of those things.
Berney Creek to Watson River Loop: A classic Yukon adventure bike ride, willow bashing FTW!
Revisited this route on August 13, 2023 with Evan and Paul. Starting from the Annie Lake Road it's about 115 km of mining roads, old horse trails, winter trails and no trail. Sorry about the shit video quality I recorded it badly and don't know how to make it better.

I toed the line in September 2023 at the inaugural Divide 200 race in Crowsnest Pass, Alberta. Things went to shit pretty quickly for me but I still managed to finish and have a great time! Sorry for the garbage video quality my phone settings were wrong and I can't seem to fix it.

The Cottonwood Trail is an 80 km (50 mile) partial loop in Kluane National Park. It crosses two alpine passes and goes through a wide range of terrain with some stunning views. Hi Martin! Sorry for the late reply, I didn't see a notification for your comment. Those rivers are no joke, especially the Twitya. There have been near misses and at least one person drowned. People have done all kinds of things to cross including swimming a tube across with packs tied on to it, you just need to be confident in fast moving water that is really f'in cold. Me, I'm gonna take a boat every time.

If you did it again would you go the same direction (clockwise)? Or start from the Kathleen Lake side?
Hi John, I've ridden this many times and always in this direction. I've known a few people to go the other way but most everyone bikes it clockwise. IMHO you really want to climb Dalton Creek and descend Cottonwood Creek, not the opposite.
It looks amazing! I understand people have motorcycled this, but I can't see how, based on your video. Was some of it off trail?
Hi Jay! Motorcycle riders normally don't go much past the Yukon border which is still a maintained road to that point. Beyond that it quickly deteriorates into some of the terrain you see in our video. I know some some people have thought about attempting to ride to Norman Wells but so far it's not been done that I know of, at least not on bikes. A few groups have made it on ATVs over the years.

Great video. Love the raw honestly and music selection. You put in some big days my friend! Why did you decide to do it unsupported? I miss the GDT experience and solitude. Plans to return in the future. 👍🏻
Thanks Tyler! There are a few reasons I wanted to try it unsupported including that it just makes the complicated logistics of the trail a lot simpler. I was also interested by some work Roman Dial did back in the 2000s to figure out the limits of unsupported travel. Knowing what I learned on this trip I'm sure it's doable, I would definitely tweak a few things.

Bikepacking with backpacks …. Ouch.
Hard to carry 10 days of food, packraft and all other gear without a backpack. Also helps distribute the weight, a fully loaded fatbike is a lot when you have to carry it.
Agreed. Old Man Mountain racks and Ortlieb panniers are, in my humble opinion, the way to go. Been there done that. But nicely done all the same guys. Respect. 👍

Your fatbikepacking adventure from the other video in NW Canada. Wanted to ask if such bikepacking routes can be done with plus size tyres or would definitely need a fatbike
It's called the Canol Heritage Trail and yes it can be done on regular mountain bikes. We did it in 2012 with three of us on regular mountain bikes. Also look up Iohan G. aka the Bike Wanderer he also did it on a normal bike.

Thanks...........I backpacked that trail in 2012. (along with a canoe trip down the Big Salmon river) As an avid trail rider I always wanted to go back and bike it.
Great little video! How long did it take you from where you were dropped off to Norman Wells?
Thanks! About six and a half days. We were planning to do it faster and make it a round trip but we had some bike issues. Once we decided to make it one way we eased off the gas pedal.

Got to listen to the body... did you have any knee issues prior? Could the 50-60lb pack been what caused this? that's pretty heavy for the GDT. Anyways hope you are feeling better now - cheers from Southern Alberta
Thanks Ryan! I have had knee issues but not like this, it seems to be an overuse thing. The heavy pack played a part but I don't think it was the main cause. I think it was the sheer amount of elevation gain and loss, I planned to start slowly but in hindsight probably could have started even a bit slower. Try to keep it to 1500-2000 meters of vert per day for the first week or so. I underestimated Section B a bit.

Probably Tornado Pass and the sections after that like Beehive Creek. Some cool trails and really nice camps.

That is extremely impressive, great job! Interesting to see it tackled in five days with minimal gear, thats really amazing. How many shelters are out there now? Are they building more? At some point i might have to reach out for a GPS track if you have one available!

I cycled the dempster. You HIKED the Canol Trail. You are an incredibly brave man. It was scary being out on the dempster at certain points, but at least every couple of hours there were people. The Canol Trail? That is some intense isolation. That is a whole new level of difficulty. But your video is also very informative. Looks unfathomably majestic out there.
