LET YOUR KIDS GIVE THEIR INPUT ON THEIR HOMESCHOOL CURRICULUM CHOICES!
Просмотров 1195 месяцев назад
It can be hard to not have 100% complete control over what curriculum choices your kids use in your homeschool. Keep in mind, however, that as they get older, they should be (in my opinion) making more of these decisions. That's not to say that I don't do the research and give them options...because I do! But, I also know and understand the importance of giving them some accountability for what...

IT'S OK TO QUESTION YOUR DECISION TO HOMESCHOOL!
Can you tell me if you chose a different curriculum? Im so torn.
@Kaylin09 We kept it! It is a little tedious though! But I knew I couldn't teach it on my own 😃
zoom out!
I’m so glad you are doing so well and enjoying everything! It is a blessing when you finally know that you are done having kids. I felt the same that I needed to make sure I knew I was done. Do you still do MathUSee?
@@Bluekittykat8 thank you!! Videos are coming up soon, promise! 😄 We don't use Math U See currently. Our oldest (10th grade) uses Shormann Math
Great video. thank you!! Do you feel your daughter could’ve gone from The Good and the Beautiful 5 to BJU Math 7? Are the levels pretty equivalent to each other? Or would you say TGATB is a level ahead?
@Analysemarie I feel like they've been pretty comparable in keeping up with the appropriate grade levels. But I probably wouldn't go from level 5 to level 7 😊
@domesticchaoscoordinator3743 thank you dear!! I always hear people say that The Good and the Beautiful is at least one level ahead of others, but I find that it’s pretty equivalent to most homeschooling curriculum. Thank you for your help always 🥰
I do the same thing with my homeschooling children. It’s really up to you and what you want out of this experience. My children learn quick so once they have mastered the skill we move on. Your videos are amazing and inspiring.
Did you end up getting the Teacher's guide? Why? I am about to purchase Book 10 for my 10th grader, and I am debating whether or not I should buy them both. Some Teacher's guides are very helpful, and others simply are there to collect dust. I guess my question is, can the student complete the student book without the Teacher's guide, or do they work together to teach the lessons? I need to finish getting the curriculum for this upcoming year and I'm behind, so if you can let me know your response as soon as you can...I would appreciate it SO MUCH!!
I did not for 9th but I would definitely recommend!! 🤪
Lord knows I needed to hear this today, I’m struggling with this right now. My 6th baby was born this year and she’s 3 months old now. The sleepless nights are rough and she’s growing fast it makes me sad. But I miss sleep too 😂 some days I feel like I’m done and some days I don’t.
Oh I feel you! The sleep will come! Don't worry about that! ♥️ Just take it day by day.
My greetings amd love from Greece.❤🇬🇷I am 24 years old and i find u very gorgeous amd attractive. 😊I can say that women on decade of 40s is their best period. They still young and same time mature and attractive and many guys in my age we are attracted to women on their 40s.
This video was so helpful to me! I purchased this curriculum for my younger two. They were using BJU and it was way too much explaining 😂
@@thissimplelife653 glad to be of help!!
Where is the answer key? Teacher/parent book?
They actually have it as a download on their website! 😊
These sounds like great choices! Thanks for sharing. I looked to see if you had an end of year review for 9th grade, but didn't see one. I was wondering how the books that are suggested in Notgrass for language arts turned out.
This coming year we'll be using Notgrass for Language Arts! For 9th grade we used The Good and the Beautiful so we didn't utilize the Language Arts from Notgrass, but this year we will!
@@domesticchaoscoordinator3743 I found both the Notgrass world history and american history at a consignment sale with all the readers and was just curious what others thought of the selections. I can't wait to hear how this year goes for you all.
This was very helpful
So glad you are are safe 🌪️

Beautiful Tortie girl :) She reminds me of mine I had some years ago. I <3 the torties :)
@@Risici_Bloom thank you!
How did it turn out with this curriculum? Do you feel like the writing portion was thorough? Were the novel choices good? Great video!
Sorry! Just saw this! There wasn't a HUGE amount of writing involved with this curriculum. I know alot of people use IEW also. We did like the curriculum overall, but we decided to use Notgrass this coming year (history can be combined with language arts in their curriculum)
Back in the late '80s when I was in 11th grade in my Econ class we were told by the teacher that he was going to skip the Constitution because we would get that next year in Government class. But when the next year came and I was sitting in my Government class The teacher said we're going to skip the Constitution because we got it last year in our Econ class. When the students spoke up including myself and said no, we didn't. We were told we were not going to do it, and then said just read it yourself. Years later after I was married I mentioned this story to my husband. My husband is 2 years older than me and went to a whole different School district as he lived in a different county. He had the same experience! When we discuss this with our children who are now grown and married... We come to find out they were told the same thing as well! My children are 7 years apart in age and went to two different schools and two different school districts.
Wow!!!
Ohhh friend I needed this!! I don’t know how to skip and feel sooo guilty if I do! ❤I can’t wait to see what you say!
We do this alot lol
Sound of the children in the background was a joy to hear
Thank you! I try and get them to keep it down a few notches while I'm filming! 😄
Do you feel level 7 could be used with a separate writing curriculum? I looked at samples online and it looked very different from previous levels. We are using another writing curriculum through our co-op and I don’t want to overwhelm my reluctant writer. I am thinking of doing level 6 instead, so curious about your thoughts if you have had the chance to look through it at all.🙂
I think it's definitely personal preference. I've never added any extra writing curriculum pieces, because I've always felt that what we've used is enough, especially for middle school. However, I've seen alot of people add in things like IEW, etc to get even more writing practice in. But for us, we've never added anything extra 😊
Some states require homeschool hours vs. number of lessons so if we need to fit in another 30 minutes of school that day, math drills are a good way to use that time and build those skills.
@bu2ful119 That is very true!! For sure check your state's requirements
The curriculum spirals anyway. If you skip something, they'll see that concept next year. I wouldn't skip the same concept every year though. I agree with you about feeling ok with customizing homeschool for what works for you and your kids.
Yes! Agreed!
This is so interesting! And encouraging!
With my oldest 2 having been in public school, I noticed it early on!
Would you use this alongside Wordlywise or would you say some of the material overlaps? Thanks for sharing!
I would say use along side. I think Wordly Wise is such a great curriculum piece! When my daughter went to 6th grade this year, we switched to A Reason for Spelling and Wordly Wise and those 2 as a combination have been great!
We like Science Shepherd a lot. I Think the only thing is that he’s a little monotone. But other than that, it’s great. If you don’t mind me asking… What level of Math do you think you’ll have your son go up to?
Thanks! I'm not 100% sure on Math yet. It's definitely not his favorite subject! I'm going to take it year by year I think, after his required math classes. I never even took PreCal in high school, so I would be zero help!
@@domesticchaoscoordinator3743 oh yes! Me either. I was actually just watching a review on Denison Math. It seems great for non math lovers! Like my oldest 😅
@@Analysemarie yes!!
It's nice to have common-sense education available. It is lost in society.
Agree!
I’am CVT and worked in the field for 15 years before homeschooling. I worked along time in emergency and I loved it. After moving (military hubby) I became a practice manager and trained new techs. I did this in several states. I miss it but at same time I don’t miss it if that makes sense? Congrats on the new job 😊
Definitely makes sense!! Thank you!! 🫶
Hi! I’m currently looking into Texas studies. Would you recommend it?
I liked it, however it could pretty much just be used as a read aloud. Which I personally like, but I know that's not everyone's cup of tea 😊
Maybe take original knobs off and spray paint them satin Nichol or gun metal gray would look so nice and updated as well looks amazing though
Good idea! Thank you!
Would you still need to get the language book if you have this book?
We used this in conjunction with The Good and The Beautiful Language Arts, but that's it 🙂
@@domesticchaoscoordinator3743 ok is it not enough? Or you just wanted more
@victoriasimonetv We used this workbook just for spelling. I definitely wouldn't deem it as a language arts curriculum. So you would want a separate language arts curriculum to go with it.
I thought Texas is a happy place…if you own a property out of state, is there any higher tax or fee if you don’t live there?
Nope, you just pay the regular property tax which is super minimal 🙂
When you say "teacher's guide" do you mean the answer book or is there actually a teacher's guide?
It does have an answer key in the teachers guide 🙂
Aww! Love it! Congratulations ❤️🥳
Thank you!
Yes! We are in the same boat w TGTB
Excited for you! ❤
Thank you!
What did you end up adding on the curriculum? I have the book studies from my 8th grader for the fall but don't know what to supplement with
We actually just took our time and spread it out more. The second half of the school year we changed things around and split up the subjects in order to focus more on each one. (I think I did a video on that.) However, we didn't use the vocabulary curriculum (Wordly Wise) , so I probably would have used that as my file up to TGATB
*follow up
I'm doing notgrass history, literature paired with IEW outschool class for writing.
I've heard quite a bit about IEW!
How have you liked this curriculum? I'm in the middle of choose a health curriculum for my twins going into 9th grade. I'm stuck between Abeka and Not Consumed's new health curriculum called Thrive.
I actually found that some stuff could be out of date. So I'm not 100% in love with it. I need to look into the Not Consumed!
Shormann Math Algebra 1 and Geometry is 1 credit one credit algebra and only 1/2 credit geometry. Algebra 2 /geometry is the same as above 1 credit Algebra 2 and the other half credit geometry.
Yep! So it'll basically just spread out Geometry a little more
Totally agree with this! ❤😊
We have been loving Notgrass for the past 2 years as well! Always love watching your videos. Thanks for sharing this one!❤
Thank you!!
My non science lover and hater of video lessons son, highly recommends Science Shepherd. Science shepherd has quickly become his favorite curriculum. After every lesson he comes and gives me a recap. My 8th grader who did Physical Science this year, loved the short lessons and how the lessons followed the notes. Even when he missed an answered once he re-read the question he was able to get the correct answer. I loved that I didn't have to teach science! Also, Science Shepherd is currently running an up to 40% off sale until May 31.
Thank you!!
Not Consumed has a Consumer Math course available now. It might be worth a look for an elective credit , since you have Math covered.
Thank you!
Look into Shormann a little more because I'm 99% sure you get 1/2 geometry credit with Algebra 1 and 1/2 geometry credit with Algebra 2. It's not a full geometry credit after one year of Algebra 1.
You are correct. 1/2 with Alg 1and the other 1/2 with Alg 2
You're right! So technically breaking up Geometry
We’ve used science shepherd for introductory science, physical science, and will begin in august life science. Love it. Short videos packed full of information and images that work well for those visual learners. Plus the worksheets reiterate all that’s been taught. The review in the worksheets is the part that’s best, imo, as it keeps it all fresh in their minds.
Perfect! Thank you!
We are using Life Science this upcoming school year as well!
The math curriculum you’re using, isn’t it just half of geometry integrated into algebra 1 and you have to use algebra 2 to get the second half of the geometry credit?
That's what I thought too....
You're right! So the Geometry, instead of taking a full year of it by itself, will be stretched out
We are using Science Shepherd this year for 6th and it is going great. But we will take a break this coming year from it. I would love to hear how the Highschool goes for you😉
Thanks!! I'll give an update for sure!!
Whats is MPG rating
Typically I get about 16ish mpg in the city
