This is so evocative of its time- forces uniforms, cigarette smoke and a glitter ball overhead. Sally Douglas has one of those deliciously understated English mezzos/ contraltos (im never sure which!), and some lovely, fruity interjection from Harry Hayes's alto.

Thank you for this! I’ve never heard Sally Douglas singing this and didn’t realise she had even recorded it! The 1940s vocalists cannot be bettered!
@@simonrobinson3998 there are some beautiful songs out there that are largely undiscovered! I just uploaded 'Cindy Lord - Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White' which I got on record and it was nowhere on youtube but it is such a beautiful song!

I just found this song. I love it dearly. But can anyone explain why it's so underground? This is the only record I've ever seen of it??? Are there more versions of it, is it from a film ?
@@camilaisalawliet Bobby Wayne did a lot of recordings but they were only ever released on 78rpm shellac records which not many people play anymore because 1) shellac records are very brittle 2) a lot of record players don't have a 78rpm speed anymore as vinyl is played mostly at 45rpm for 7" records and 33rpm for 12" and is alot more available. I haven't come across anyone else recording this song except for Bobby Wayne. I agree, it's a wonderful song

@@itzkathy9 haha, it's the Teac Tn400BT and for the 78s I use the AT-VM95SP/H cartridge. It's a great turntable

@@itzkathy9 it does indeed. It ships with the AT95E cartridge so you will need to buy the other cartridge I mentioned separately in order to play 78s without damaging anything.

@@itzkathy9 below is a pre-amp - you dont need it of ypu buy powered speakers (speakers that plug in to the mains). If you buy speakers there are 2 kinds - passive and active - buy active speakers as those are the powered speakers and they will work right away with the turntable.

I also love Croon1's channel - he has some amazing music on there and the 78rpm Project is also just a treasure trove of amazing songs from the 1940s and 1950s.
