Timelapse - Laurel Canyon New Year's Morning 2009 (Music by BT)
Просмотров 83815 лет назад
Shortly after midnight, New Year's night 2009, this incredible scene developed over the LA basin. Off to the left is downtown LA, approached by a thin layer of fog, lit from below by the street grid below. Watch as the night turns into a stunning sunrise, and the fog burns off to reveal the rest of the city.

Barack Obama Music Video: Change
Просмотров 44 тыс.16 лет назад
A Nashville musician friend of mine wrote this impassioned song - about change in our lives - before the 2008 primaries gave birth to the Obama/Change association.
I started working at NewTek in 1997, through '99, then came back in '07 through 2020. When I first saw this video I was absolutely in awe of what could be done at the time. Plus the song is just a great song, one I keep coming back to lo these many years later. So for what it's worth, in my eyes you guys were absolute legends and pioneers in this kind of video making!
I am here chasing a long dormant memory from my childhood of a 3-D animation I saw on television... I have no idea if this is it, but I'm very happy to be in this weird place
1991 the year of the Video Toaster...ah I wanted one so bad but all I ever got was the VHS demo tape. Well, it was probably a way over my head steep learning curve. Another thing I learned that year was about a certain girl but I won't print that here, lets just say if you snooze ya lose.
Don't call someone your property......
From the early 90s good stuff.
Lightwave is back baby!
What album is this from? Thanks!
No World Order
Fantastic song, and an excellent video.
Wow! Those were the times. Thanks, Till. I am forever grateful for the opportunity!
same question as below;)
This is 1993, dumbass
What the fuck did I just click on
Can't you read? Moron.
as always, Todd was so far ahead of the tech curve it is spooky ....
We can wait to give our hearts away todd
Great video footage! Can I use this footage for one of my songs titled "Laurel Canyon" ?
It's like he predicted vaporwave!!!!!!!
If you are still active here, do you mind telling me what Zoecom was? It's just that I've been exploring Digital Space Traveler and I found the place called Zoecom Tribute. Care to fill in?
Rhienne C. 3D TESTOSTERONE
Zoecom was magic. I worked there. It changed my life.
Another classic
sounds like basis of the republican platform... hahaha :D
Wore this out when first released. My first look at the video. Where have I been? Hiding.
Actually, this one was modeled and animated by the late Eric Myers and me, and rendered on a stack of 20 Amigas that Eric wrote a networking stack for (a serial protocol based sneaker net)...Todd, Eric and Danny O´Connor shot the video for the screens all over the San Francisco Bay Area. Eric and I would each take a scene, come up with some crazy ideas, then hand off the Lightwave scene to the other and he or I would take over from the last frame of the scene that was handed over, until we had them all nailed...it was an epic process, supported by the great Alan Hastings (Lightwave), Stuart Furgosen (Modeler), Tim Jenison and his team at NewTek (Video Toaster)...Alan and Stuart added new features to the software on a daily basis, based on our needs and ideas. This is how we did Property, Fascist Christ, and the epic Theology videos. Todd animated Change Myself and asked me to help him with some of the models, which is how we started working together at the time (and continued to do so for almost 25 years). I guess one could say we made CG history, even though most "kids" today wouldn`t know what CG was like before Macs and high-powered Windows machines came along. When I look at software like Cinema 4D today, I have to smile about how far accessibility to such powerful features has come.
Thanks so much Till for taking the time to describe the process. Still amazed whenever I watch those videos on the desktop collection release. All of these works stands the test of time. Pioneers you are ......
Thanks Till, you guys were WAY ahead of the curve. The hours devoted to rendering all that video are inconceivable by today's standards, and the artistic and "message" content has rarely been equaled. Todd's new autobiography gives some insight into your process. You are featured in quite a few chapters!
Going through some old VHS tapes to prepare for a move, and found Todd's "The Desktop Collection" video, which has Change Myself, Property, Fascist Christ, and a bunch more. Had to pop on RUclips to watch them again (don't have a working VHS machine), and was pleasantly surprised to find your comments. Thanks for sharing more about how it all came together!
It is a work of art and understand the feat it was. My colleges directir, Jim Hollan authored the SIGGRAPH submission Stan and Stella breaking the ICE, which he said was a proof of concept used to sell HD Television in the 80s when he worked fir Sony, I think it was. I owned three Amigas, I still have an Amiga 3000 which ai regret as the 2000 was toaster compatible.. I pushed the use of blender BTW, and if you ask Brad Carvey, ot Brads sysadmin, Mark Fleharty, they know me. As well as Mark Henne of Pixar, Ton Roosendaal, and Nic Panagos who worked on Kung Fu Panda. I'm no longer an animator, I could have made it as technical director. I once used Makefiles to render wrangle. And if you search for my animation Rise of The Thorax, keep in mind a SGI employee told me it helped sell SGI's and Wavefront, which predates Maya. I believe Alias arrogant management was the reason I was forced onto the Maya platform after they pulled licensing for Kinemation, 3Design, Composer and the TAV suite. But if that didn't happen, I wouldn't have the distaste for computer aided licensing or DRM which takes tools and media outof the hands of artists and consumers. Supporting blender was necessary for two reasons: artists should always have access to their instruments just as accessibility to trumpets drove Jazz among poor black artists.. Anyhow, I understand DRM is needed by some to survive, but I can argue that to pirate software is a great way for people to install malicious software on their computers, and is why jailbreaking phones makes you vulnerable. Apple will not permit apps onto the app store that permit people to compile applications on the platform as it might introduce viruses and malicious exploits.. Linux has an installer app store it is called synaptic, I think.. And the purpose is to guarantee users never are exploited by middle man and the vulnerability that comes from untrusted sources. Also the GPL license prevents packaged distribution of licensed libraries, to encourage reuse, prevent security vulnerabilities and decrease fragmentation, and save space. It is combinations of these ideals, that make Linux and the like better platforms. Note Windows is plagued by security holes and fragmentation because they haven't adopted open source (which is not making software free, it is a superset of GPL'd freeware). Anyhow.. Blender is the "little O" in runtime software behavior, the fire beneath the ass of commercial developers, the strive to innovate beyond common sensical intuitive development of tools, it maintains that products that enter the market place have purpose and utility favorable to consumers.. It should inspire developers to know the artists and share knowledge. Anyhow, sorry for the Rant.. But keep in mind if it weren't for competitive free software that infringed on patents like BMRT, there might never have been shaders for the NVidia graphics cards that make realtime realistic graphics apart from the limitations of raytracing, such as the artistic needs to tell stories, such as Pixars need to present the reflection of Buzz lightyears face in his helmet when light simulation would warp that shot..
Till Krueger oh BTW, my first inclination to get the Amiga, was ignorance due to clever exploits like the boing demo which was just a circle with CLUT (COLOR LOOKUP TABLE) cyclic animation. And even the Mac had no apps for year after its release. I sorta hated waiting for NewTek advertising fir years before the Toaster was available. It reminds me of the time it took SGI to force the merging of Alias, Wavefront and TDI into a single product, why couldn't they just have not forced users onto a unproven platform and not have used Chris Landreth to lie visually. Chris could make Bingo with anything as I'm sure he just used simple relative key-framing to make that demo. And according to Ton Roosendaal in an interview with Blender GURU, he deduced from Autodesk stock filings, that there is no more than 15,000 licenses of Maya today, and both 3DMAX AND MAYA Comprise less than a hundred million of Autodesk's revenue a year. See what pissing off artists like me do.. Also, I know that why SGI WAS forced to purchase ALIAS, WAVEFRONT AND TDI, is Microsoft in 1996 announced at SIGGRAPH in New Orleans, the best SIGGRAPH I ever attended, that they had bought Softimage, all the developers and companies feared being forced out of business by Microsoft.. But what killed them, was an over-zealous arrogance for power, and unfair treatment of sincere consumers. I pleaded with Wavefront to sell me a license of TAV, they denied their fiduciary responsibility ti SGI's creditors to permit me to pay thousands for software. what inspired Ton to develop Blender the choice of buying SGI hardware juxtaposed to buying software, he bought SGI's for his company and implemented his own solution.
One of the astounding things is that Todd animated this video. Using an Amiga and Lightwave on a Video Toaster.
I'll be your fantasy But I won't be your property Love you eternally But I'll never be your property Love from me's not guaranteed Just because you think I'm property I can love you totally And still not be your property Every girl and boy wants to grow up to be loved someday You can't wait to give your heart away But it's like worship in their eyes, walking down the aisle When you slip on that ring, they start to treat you like a thing, yeah I call it slavery When you call someone your property Don't waste your vanity I will never be your property Something wonderful happens when people fall in love Your happiness is all they're thinking of But it's like, anything you say 'til the wedding day When they get it in ink, they start to tell you what to think, yeah Darkest day in history When someone invented property Cause of our misery Is the constant lust for property Since God began it We've been dividing up the planet When you see something you want it You've gotta put your name tag on it And we go on carving Meanwhile half the world is starving It's a crime Hands off what is mine Take all you can 'til you slam on the parking brake And you need space to make your own mistakes But it's like I won't hold you back 'til the bags are packed Then they're struttin' about like they own you inside out I'll be your fantasy But I won't be your property Love you eternally But I'll never be your property Love from me's not guaranteed Just because you think I'm property I can love you totally And still not be your property I call it slavery When you call someone your property Don't waste your vanity I will never be your property Darkest day in history When someone invented property 'Cause of our misery Is the constant lust for property
too smart to be a hit - same with the structure containing 2 counter-melody middle 8 thingies - IMo Todd was entering a golden age, Arena LP much later has some dandies -the Amsterdam Metropole/Paradiso show from 2012 is awe-inspiring
I love Todd... he sings the things in my soul...
Visually speaking, the best ever TR vidéo. And excellent song, of course.
1991? He toured w No World Order in '94... I saw him in Hollywood that spring.
1991. Todd didn't make any albums in 1990.
you are correct, actually...I've been meaning to correct the years of those 3 music videos I did with Todd but have been locked out of my KruegerVP RUclips account until I'm back in the USA and can check my SMS messages for RUclips's security code to get back in...I tell ya', technology!
1993. 1991 was Change Myself.
I am for the sovereignty of countries but when a country tries to claim another's land as their own, no, not with that
The seed of war.
Great sound on this !!!!!
yes, it is...we lost all of the original masters for these music videos, so I had to capture them off the Desktop Collection DVD, which isn't ideal because of the interlace that had to be eliminated, halving the vertical resolution (not quite, but in essence...certainly no comparison to our original 480 progressive versions).
amiga? right.
yup, a render farm of 20 Amiga 2000's that our late friend and co-creator Eric Myers networked with a self-written serial-based sneaker-net.
love TR!
Always puts me in a better place.
This video still gives me the chills. Fantastic to see and hear it again. Great work.
thanks, Chris...I also still love playing it from time to time to remind myself of where we come from and how far we've come.
This video showed the world tha amazing graphic capabilities of the Amiga computer. It was an era when high quality 3D graphic could be made only with Silicon Graphics or Sun computers, with software ranging in the $20.000 tag... I still own an Amiga PowerPC from 1992 and it keeps working as beautifuly as the first day...
You said it...those were amazing times...I traded my first computer, a Mac Classic, for a new Amiga 2000 after hearing of its video and multi-tasking capabilities...they, like us, were many years ahead of the times.
awesome song this is mike though not lee go todd go,,,,,,,
I remember renting this tape from Panorama Video, falling in love with this song, recording it on a tape and playing it on my Walkman enough that the tape fell apart, then looking for it online for YEARS. I am SO incredibly glad you uploaded it!
"Congress shall make no law respecting an ESTABLISHMENT of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." ^_^
Cool! I was there in Chicago and met Todd in the hallway outside and we shared a few words.
