    I just completed this install using this videos method of tapping into an existing fuel line for the aux heater, and it worked!! Thank you! I did this on a 2006 t1n 2500. Because I have the webasto and not the Chinese heater, although the 6x6x6mm T-barb worked, I did need one piece of 6mm sleeve tubing (only 4mm sleeve connectors come with webasto) so I also ordered that part. Everything went pretty smooth and was able to pull out the fuel line from the espar pump and reuse the sleeve (after cutting away the clamp) without having to cut the line, making the setup less complicated. I'm impressed with this method and it saved me $400 from having an outfitter do it.

    Funny thing is that Mercedes owner’s manual doesn’t say anything about the filter renewl except ”go to the dealer” and Haynes repair manual is equally silent of this matter! Whhaaaat? Changing air filters is basic stuff in every car!

    Thanks for the video. However I can’t remove the filter housing cover even when the 2 metal clips are opened. The cover just won’t slide to the right. Forcing it to move is risky as the plastic material of the housing and cover is quite easily damaged. I don’t know what to do next.

I want to run a sound bar (via a 200W or 300W converter at the back), some LED lights (including USB), a 12v or USB rechargeable fan, plus 1-2 other USB things - like a phone recharger... ALL from a switched splitter. Do you think 16 awg would suffice? Do I need a fuse?

    Great video! Was really helpful to get my heater installed in my 118 wb. It’s been getting pretty cold her in Utah and when I fired it up over the weekend I got an e 08 error which I think maybe fuel gelling. Wondering if you experienced this and how you went about solving it?

    • @projectvagrant8197
      @projectvagrant8197 Год назад

      I haven't had this issue, usually they put additives in the fuel to prevent freezing but if you filled up somewhere where it doesn't get cold enough to freeze up and are now where it does, can definitely be an issue. You can buy additive like heet or diesel 911 and add it to the tank. You could pull the fuel line and drop it into the bottle of heet/diesel 911 to pump some direct into the fuel line also to try to help

      @@projectvagrant8197 Thanks for the response and thanks for your videos they really help out. I noticed you placed the heater to the inboard side rather than the outboard side of the seat pedestal. Most of the instals I have seen others do the heater was mounted to the outboard side, so did you have any particular reason for doing it that way? I'm not sure if I should go with the 2kw or the 5kw size heater. I have the 158 wheel base but I don't plan on real cold sub zero temps so I might be good with the smaller one and it would give me more wiggle room under the seat? BTW did you give up the van life, you haven't posted for a year now.

    • @projectvagrant8197
      @projectvagrant8197 Год назад

      @@vanman3752 no real reason I installed in the exact location I did. If the other side gives more access from the bottom, go for that 1 because where I chose was pretty tight attaching the clamps on everything (exhaust, intake and fuel lines). To be honest if I did it all over again, I'd install the heater under our bed where our lithium batteries, water tank, etc are. Because then the residual heat coming off the heater will keep it warmer there and prevent the batteries or pipes/water from getting too cold. Ive got a big vent cut in the wall under our bed now and it stays within 10 degrees of the temp in the van now but used to be 20-30 degrees different when it was just a smaller vent. With the 158 having more space a 5kw may make the most sense just to be prepared "for anything." 2kw may be fine if you're never going around 0 F though and insulate fairly well. We're still living the van life! Not as mobile as we used to be -- we usually spend 6-9 months of the year traveling full time and then spend 2-3 months at "home" (living in the van in family's driveway) during holidays. Well, after 2.5 years we realized we were almost out of our savings so we ended up being at home way longer than we planned while I looked for a remote job and got back into the 9-5 life from the van. I also remodeled the van a bit (rebuilt our bed, added a lagun table to the passenger seat, added some more cabinets, a back splash, also added starlink setup and another solar charge controller and deployable 300w solar panel). I also did quite a bit of maintenance (new injectors, new idler pulleys, belt, coolant flush). To be honest I have pretty bad ADHD and I struggle with consistently filming, editing, posting, etc. and now that I have a full time job it's just all hit the back burner. We got back out there for about 3 months and explored the Northeast US but it was pretty crap. Lots of parking lot camping, especially because camping is way more limited and I need service or a clear sky and solar for starlink 8 hr a day. On top of that all our friends we have met and traveled with were out west and we didn't really meet any other cool vanlifers except in Canada and the upper peninsula of Michigan. My grandma just got diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer so we've come back home to be close. So yes -- we are still living the vanlife, just a lot less mobile at the moment.
