Algonquin Backcountry Trip - P2 - Tim Lake w Tam - July 2024
Tim Lake is one of my favourite lakes to camp on in Algonquin Park. A few months ago when my friend Tam told me she booked it for us, I was elated. There’s always something cool to see in this area of the park, and we were totally rewarded on this adventure. I hope you enjoy these videos, full of delicious food, interesting sightings, gorgeous scenery and lots of laughter.

Back To Backcountry - P3 - Buckskin Lake Canoe Trip - HHWT

In this video, I make a delicious dessert pizza in a pie iron. I used to make them a lot when car camping with friends in Longpoint, but have never made one in the backcountry. The original plan for this weekend was to camp on Kiosk Lake, with no portages, but due to some issues, I switched the trip to Upper Crane in Haliburton. I had to do one small portage with the heavy pie iron, but it was ...

      @@CamperChristina I seen the end that changed color connected to the stove maintained shape better and it seems that using the other end of the stove pipe to connect to the stove will change the color more and help maintain the shape better on the both ends to help roll

    • @CamperChristina
      @CamperChristina 2 дня назад

      @@ModernMonksNunsPriest the colour change only indicates that the pipe has gotten to a certain temperature and the toxins have burned off of the pipe. That is the reason for the first burn. I have not found that either end has any issue holding its shape after the first burn, at all. If you look through my videos after this one, I use the stove, I show rolling it and unrolling it several times, and there’s no issues with the pipe on either the burnt end or the unburned end. I definitely don’t see any point in spending another four hours to burn the other end of the stove pipe when there would be no benefit. Possibly it just looked that way because I had the ring at the base of the pipe where the stove attaches and at the top of the pipe the ring is further down. That’s the only thing I can think of that you may have seen that might indicate there’s a difference, but there is none at all with the pipe holding its shape after the burn. On either end. Cheers !

    Thanks for going to the trouble of making this video Christina, much appreciated. I am about to attempt a huge job replacing 5 big windows on a family nylon tent as they had corroded with UV over the years, and I hated the idea of throwing away a huge amount of plastic-based fabric without at least trying. The tent also has lovely memories from my kids growing up. Repairers said it wasn't cost effective. There is hardly anything around on doing this on the internet, and you have helped me get my head around it. This is the only other video I found in case it is useful to anyone. ruclips.net/video/aF7i-iAgzZc/видео.html My tent is thin nylon, and huge, so I am expecting a nightmare! With thin nylon I'm planning to use iron on seam sealing tape on the inside. Here goes! Hope all is well, Geoff in the UK

    • @CamperChristina
      @CamperChristina 15 дней назад

      That is the video that I used as well to help me. Just a note that in the comments somewhere, someone mentioned that I did the seams incorrectly. I really don’t know what I did wrong? But apparently I did something a bit backwards. Also… won’t the nylon melt,,with heat?

    • @GeoffRead
      @GeoffRead 15 дней назад

      @@CamperChristina I guess on the other video the bias tape ends up on the inside, with the folded seam on the outside hiding it - so kind of the reverse of what you have done. But if you like the look of the tape, and as long as the canvas materials mean it doesn't leak, then i guess your way will function the same, so why not? For man-made tent materials the seam sealing tape comes with instructions for using an iron by gradually increasing the heat until you find the point at which the glue on the tape melts without melting the materials, but for sure that is a danger - I'll be testing it on some spare fabric first. You use brown paper between the iron and the tape to diffuse the heat too. Looking at my other nylon tent with a window in it, they didn't use bias tape, just sewed in the window covered by a single folded seam from the front, then used sealing tape wide enough to cover the two lines of sewing and run up onto the window. The nylon tent I'm repairing didn't have bias tape either, but I bought tape just in case....I think I will try it with no bias tape, single folded seams onto the outside of the window, then seam seal the inside (which maybe strengthens in the same way as bias tape?)....and test with water before going onto the next one. Haha, there is a lot to go wrong the first time, I will only really know next time I camp in the wind and rain, but let's fight throw-away culture!

      I agree completely and commend you for what you’re trying to do. I wish you all the success in the world. I hope it works out for you. I did add the bias tape for looks and only one of the 5 windows leaks a tiny bit in one corner. My hot tent, however, has the sides at a 45° ish angle which makes the water sit in the seams a bit, whereas on a normal tent, it will probably be more up and down and not so angled. Sending so much luck to you. Let me know how it works out ? Cheers

    I had a whole family once help carry my stuff from Ten Mile Lake to Dunlop. And their kids were very young. But I don't see any campers where I go now. I hope to leave for 5 nights in several days, and repeat that 5 times. In the meantime I have to stay tuned and learn a few tricks.

      There are several different areas in the Haliburton highlands water trails reservation system. You need to go under frost center for buckskin. Email me if you need any more help at camperchristina@outlook.com and I can send you the links. I’m not sure if they work here? @@wenren7895 not a problem at all. I’m glad you found it. If you Google access points for haliburton Highlands, Water Trails, there’s a page on their website somewhere that actually has GPS locations of the accesses. I highly recommend using that if you’re going to some of the less popular ones.

    Stove is too small for Canadian cold winters. If you are looking for a top-notch titanium portable wood stove, look at Boreal Outdoor Innovations products. They make high-end equipment and it's all made in Canada.

      The land in many parts of hhwt is shared. There are cottages on some of the lakes and all types of activities, motorized and non. I don’t know the exact rules but just what I’ve seen.

    • @CamperChristina

      Lol. Depends on the trip. This is a short easy trip, and a lot of foods don’t need refrigeration. People just refrigerate everything because they think they have to. I eat lots of freeze dried meals. I do challenging solo portaging trips, usually between 4 to 7 days where I eat lots of freeze dried food. Because I camp so much and also because I’m filming, I try to make different things to keep me happy by not eating the same food all the time, and to make interesting content. Cheers
