It's called Gamesmanship. Ebdon was simply trying to break Ronnies rhythm and to get into his head. The sad thing he was happy to do it out in front of millions of people. This sort of style and mentality destroys the game as a spectators sport.

In fairness to Ebdon, Ronnie's 147 was the fastest 147 recorded and I don't think it will be beaten any time soon, if ever as it isn't something you can set out to do. Ebdon was playing at a more realistic speed, albeit he was being really slow at potting some of them
