Forging a medieval church hinge
Просмотров 6 тыс.9 месяцев назад
The original hinge is on a door at fiskerkapellet at Maihaugen. The chapel is from 1459, but the metalwork was most likely moved to this chapel from another church and is most likely older. It bears strong resemblance to the ornamental metalwork on several stavechurches like Nes Stavkirke from the first half of the 13th century
Forging a norwegian Carpenters axe (7" Laftebile)
Просмотров 9 тыс.11 месяцев назад
This axe is a copy of an old laftebile from Lom in central norway. The original is probably from around 1850-1920. The original showed clear marks of having an innlayed carbon steel bit aswell as a large forgeweld between blade and eye, so i went for the same kind of construction method
Forging nails
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.11 месяцев назад
Handforged nails from 6mm roundbar. The first nail is a common 4 faceted nail, the second type of nail is commonly found in scandinavia in the middle ages. The smaller head conserves iron wich was very costly at the time whilst still having a lot of holding strength.
Forging a medieval wood auger (Navar)
Просмотров 3,9 тыс.Год назад
Norwegian Blacksmith Ida Moi forging a Navar, a type of wood auger used in scandinavia since the middle ages
Thats awesome, id never seen the chain makers hammers in use. Need to get one of the 3 handle ones that can have up to a 140 lb head!
Well done! I note that you began the twist near the snail, whereas I have noticed that Sheffield artisans begin the twist near the shank.
Wow. Clean, crisp, elegant lines, thin and well patterned throughout. Absolutely beautiful blades.
Looked like one heat. Thats pretty incredible by my experience. I see atleast two things i can improve. Thanks
@@jasonsytsma9367 thanks! I normally forge nails up to 3" long in one heat after that I need two heats
No disrespect ment. I know it's a lot of work and skill. Your ax looked tipped forward and the handle also mot hung right...maybe it's the camera angle. Just my over view. Cool job thow....stay frosty...
if you are thinking of the angle between axe and handle, the tilt forward is intentional. Axes of this type (laftebile) are traditionally hung so that if you put the middle of the edge on a table, the end of the handle is between 5-10 cm above the table
A what axe?
a riggers axe is a type of axe used for framingwork, it is half axe half hammer
😍 magnifique
I used one for almost 15 years , best hammer I ever owned. 28 ounce . I miss being young enough to work anymore.
Great work, that looks amazing
thanks!
It’s always awesome to me when I see people working that well in a shop
Can you show more of the forge cart
I love seeing forge welding like this. It seems a bit of an avoided technique by many modern smiths outside of Damascus steel and axes. But it's such a foundational skill to have when other joinery isn't an option.
Magnifique 😍
Brilliant just brilliant💯👌💯🪓💯
Truly amazing work. I was surprised by how well your tongs held the pieces together so you could forge weld!
Замечательная работа
I think that is one of the most fiddliest items I have seen blacksmithed . Very well done, keep up the great work .
I wish I had this setup, very nice
He did it in one heat, HE DID IT IN ONE HEAT!
det er meget fint arbejde ! skønt at se roligt svejsearbejde. ros til jer!
Incredible work, inspiring!
Who needs a power hammer when you have a couple of mates😂
Yeah, I think I’ll just go to Lowe’s
Мех.молот выгоднее, чем четверых мордоворотов прокормить!
Größtprächtig und schön DANKE 🦾😘 u guys made THE nail to fuckin‘ nail it😂 i love u
Impressionnant 😂🤯
Без защиты, кузнец из него повар😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
My problem with asmon is he not only says wrong things confidently, but he fosters such a toxic vile community that jumps at his every word. It’s hard to engage in good fun conversation about a video game when there’s 1000 fanboys jumping down your throat parroting points they don’t even understand themselves, or just being straight up toxic.
Heya dude nice hammer, but can I have a question ? I just got an idea to forge my Old broken crescent wrench to a bowie, tho I have heard that chrome is pretty toxic especially when heated. Which kinda makes me think. Do you think it will be safe to use or should I discontinue the project? Thanks
The chrome that is inside the steel is bound inside the crystal structure of the steel so that will not be a problem if the wrench has a chrome finish you might want to grind that off or use a respirator until the finish layer has burnt away
very nice clean forging dude, what steel are you using for the face ?
thanks, I use C60 steel (0.6%C)
In a side question, what's the main metal used for the rest of the hammer?
Neat
Not a very smart boy.
Кует маленькую деталь, а показьівают молоток ср. внличиньі...? Вот что делает кузнечное мастерство неповторимьім...?
Thats amazing nice work
Haha 😂 that was beyond stupid simple, work smarter not harder!! Lol I’m gonna steal that technique, or repurpose? Whichever Lol 👍 thanks!!
Thanks for sharing.
7:16 good rhythm! Nice work. You don't see stuff like this made these days.
Great work! I will be your subscriber # 506 ! Good luck with your Chanel!! 😊
thats cool Ive only seen the newer version of that with a screw lead thread on the end but I want to have a go at makeing some of these now . Is there a way to work out the hole diameter it will make before you start? Thanks for sharing
yes there is a chart for it i will see if I can find it.
@@BlacksmithsHeritage cool thankyou
Nice piece of forge work.
What size steel bar do you use and what size hole is in your nailer?
the stock is 6mm round bar, the hole in the nail header is 3.5mm square
Outstanding work!! I must ask, is there a place I might be able to find these pants?
wow now that is real BS work, you are a real master of forge welding, so awesome to watch
Incredible!!⚒️💪👍
You and your helper work well together. Good timing.
Great looking Axe! Strong work.
thanks! that means a lot to me coming from you!
WOW thats amazing
I really like how that hardy tool doesn't move the slightest. calming.
yeah, makes forging easier as well. We wedged it in with a small woodshaving
That turned out just lovely. Nice work guys... 👍
that's some serious forge welding you did here. Great fuc***** job dude !! <3
