Bortkiewicz Op.15, No.9 in F Allegro di molto
Fantastic performance. This is my go-to piece whenever someone says, "I love classical music. It's so relaxing!"
One of my favourites
This version is better than the best version I've ever heard. It's very thoughtful and tells a story. The voicing is incomparable. All other renditions are are a rush to completion or a hot mess when compared to this one.
I don’t think there is anything else in the literature as perfectly raw and exciting as this and Horowitz OWNS it!
He skips a section but it makes total musical sense. It's very intentional. It creates a more coherent and dramatic ending.
Music of the ocean.....
Best performance of this etude
Man, I wish there were a better recording of this. Such a masterful and epic performance - to have heard it in person would've evoked such unforgettable euphoria.
I feel this is excessively aggressive.
This version is really a story!
Руки надо большие чтобы это играть,последние аккорды надо сильно пальцы расставлять,у Рахманинова большие руки были.Дети это не сыграют даже самые талантливые.
1:56 as much as i love yuja wang’s interpretation, this really is the best one. he makes it sound so menacing and otherworldly. chills
PERFECT! I have no other word for it🤷♀. Thanks for oploading🙏🏽
Always wondering, when I realize that Beethoven/Mozart/Bach and other great composers before Prokofiev have never heard this music. I guess that their professional ears would have loved it, even if total unfamiliar to this sound pattern.
You bet😃
I wish this recording was better, it sounds like he broke a string or two. Argerich is the better to my ear, and I think Yuja to my eye, watching her fingers dance around the keys in HD with her own interpretation was fantastic. Horowitz's version sounds more crazier than the two women's, but I still prefer Argerich.
3:25
It’s a music of God! So brilliant!
Holy crap
The cadence at 3:01 is so incredibly creative and unexpected. This is quintessential Prokofiev. Maybe we should just call him Pro. He was the best.
The piece comes alive under Horowitz.
I appreciate your passion!!👏👏👏
super beautiful piece
Op.17,No.1 00.00 Op.17,No.3 01.20 Op.22,No.1 03.33 Op.11,No.14 05.16 Op.11,No.24 06.20 Op.13,No.2 07.10 Op.13,No.4 08.08 Op.15,No.2 09.15 Op.16,No.1 10.10 Op.16,No.2 13.10 Op.11,No.8 14.20
2:33
This is the kind of composition that really requires hammering, this interpretation leaves a lasting impression. 03:15 is the part that distinguishes his abilities from the rest, in comparison
He played with such passion!👏🎹
always always an accentuation a sound effect to attrac people's attention , j prefer a pianist above of this playing this Toccata casually it's the top for me , not here !
Just incredible music...maybe Yuja needs dig this out.
ruclips.net/video/0CW6cxApOBg/видео.html What do you think of this performance of Prokofievs toccata by Alexander Malofeev, in comparison? It’s slightly different, but also amazing. Starting at 35.07 (as encore)
M W : nothing because Toccatas are technic 100-100 , what difference ? nothing except about personnal technic of pianist nothing more
I enjoyed this one even more than Argerich's. It has a more raw and less refined feeling, Horowitz really brings out the fear and anxiety in this piece.
The painting reminds me of Moebius' art style.
Is this the left hand or right hand version?
Why does he play so unclear everytime.. i cant get it
2020
I'm surprised no one has compared this performance to Devil's Staircase. T vs DS would be a great cage match. H definitely has demonic grotesque (great word) down pat. However, there are passages in this piece which are eerie and magical - dreamlike. Martha clearly is going for the ethereal and some of her phrasing and super pianissimos turn this into a completely different piece. The ultimate in this is Brittany Spears' _Toxic_ if you know what I'm talking about. There are unexplored musical realms that can only be entered through sublime intimacy - Pires explores in #1 Cminor Schubert Impromptu ruclips.net/video/QDVJkxGz_Tc/видео.html Most others play this as a military march.
DEMONIAC!!!!!!!
Richter is the best
Только ты смог раскрыть всю бездонную глубину этого этюда, брависсимо
WOW!!! THE POWER!!
2:34 - 2:42 Holy shit, those low A's and C's are so powerful.
That’s called “HOROWITZ POWER”!!!
1.43
Listened to the versions by Argerich and Yuja Wang, both top-skilled pianists, but this one still captured me immediately. Beside the extremely demanding skill, Horowitz managed to narrate it like a story. Amazing.
Mansa XX have you heard Alexander Malofeev? What do you think about him, compared to Horowitz?
I agree with you about the story. He actually manages to do that. Thanks for suggesting. As for Yujia Wang, I think she brings her personality competely across through this piece. So if you like that effervescent, explosive, eccentric, wild child, naugthy and a tinge of "madness" chanelled into one piece, she is the one to play that one.
@@mathildewesendonck7225 I wasn't familiar with him but I did some homework since you mentioned. I think he's also brilliant, probably more aggressive than Horowitz. He has a personality in his playing for sure, but he manages to contain it so he's no pressure to listen to. Two things I noticed from his playing are that, one, he slurs the "not so important" part so the emphasis stands out more, whereas Horowitz makes it all crystal clear; two, he tends to stagger rhythms of two hands a bit, for what reason I'm not sure (probably you do that naturally while playing something slow), which you don't see in Horowitz. I personally like Horowitz better and think he's the most romantic player of modern time, if you please. But I can see that Alexander Malofeev is developing his own genre.
@@mariannejones3695 : I agree, Mephisto wasn't a romantic and Yujia Wang's interpretation (Lucerna 2018) is simply diabolic.
Try horowitz 1930 recording, which is technically the best
Wow, I have never heard all the voices in this piece until hearing this. Also more imaginative and varied than versions by technique crazed modern day pianists who perform it, it almost sounds like a different piece.
I Beleive that Horowitz is part of one of the legend of pianist but in 2019 the reference for me is yuja wang
What a great performance! It actually manages that weird energy that I usually only get from old recordings and player reproductions of Scriabin playing! Way to go, Maria Lettberg!
Frederic Chiu, from the album "Prokofiev: Piano Music - Romeo & Juliet, Op.75, Cinderella, Op.95 & Op.97, Three Pieces, Op.96" Released by Harmonia Mundi.
I listened to many other interprestations and this is the one I prefer. What is remarquable here is that "Volodia" manages to keep the attention of the listener throughout the entire piece, with a huge dynamical range, sometimes with pressing, sometimes also by having some destructuring parts, sometimes exuberant, sometimes anxious… At 3:18 I have regularly goose bumps.
seems like this piece is better performed on untuned piano
I'm not sure if this piano was untuned. It could just be that this recording is old (I think this is from 1947).
He has so much control of the piece that no one else can match! Horowitz plays this so different than everyone else yet I much prefer this to other peoples! No one can match him!
Not only is this one of the fastest recordings ever of this beast, Horowitz makes more sense out of the music than any other artist I’ve heard. I’m astounded by Horowitz’s gifts every time I listen to him play
