As a sailor, are you following the Vendee Globe race?
Not lately as I didn't had much time. I do not miss the GGR though 😁.
Regarding the schematic diagram of the receiver, the LED will burn out because it does not have a current limiting resistor.
What receiver ?
@@dxexplorer похоже имеется в виду схема приемника спутник появляющаяся в кадре на 3.33 ))))
@@piterstein9625 ahhhhh the schematic of the Sputnik receiver I had on paper in the first video. Yeeees but I updated that schematic 100 times by now 😅😅. And I think I spoke in the video that I made some mistakes in the schematic. I can't remember... once I make a video I never have time to watch it again 😅... and its been three years... my memory is no longer as it used to be when I was 20 😅. 73, YO6DXE
Good video, why is everyone migrating from jlcpcb to pcbway? What are the advantages offered by pcbway?
I don't know, or at least I didn't know that. What I like is the good quality of the PCB boards, 3D printing etc. and great customer support. I guess the best answer could be offered by someone who migrated from one to the other. 73, YO6DXE
Look for local companies. Support your country!
@romanescu_misha I would... if they would have a fair price. But the costs here are more than the PCB boards and the mailing costs together from PCBWay. So... there is a reason why I do not make them local. Plus that the quality is not the same. Maybe one day they wake up.
For the diode tuning does 1 connect between the 470 pf and 1nf capacitor ?
dxexplorer.com/sputnik-regenerative-receiver Have a look at the article as I put together there all info, updated schematic and all videos together so it would be easy for anyone to understand it and build it. I hope it helps. Is basically the same schematic as in this video, but cleaned up and improved. 73, YO6DXE P.S. Let me know if there is anything you don't understand and you need more help.
Not sure if ferrite cores are UV resistant.
I don't know that either. But since I like having all in enclosures I don't stress too much about that. Or if I would build the coax version and exclude the enclosure, most of the time I stay in the shade so again no stress 😅😅. 73, YO6DXE
Mpf 102 is hard to find in the region that I'm living in,but ordering them online can be gained, Specially, talking about FET mpf 102 transistor, will be very expensive now a days & There ain't guarantee to get original one because of China made duplicate clones are available in most of the online markets.
Yes is a little harder to find here in Romania as well. But we still have substitutes we can use ( equivalents ) so is not such a big stress.
Did you use Substitute one ? and the equivalent can be J112 if I'm not wrong.
Congrats for the 6.7k subscribers! Long live to the channel !
Thank you so much 😁. Today I will pick the winner. A bit later today as I just opened my eyes 😅. 73, YO6DXE
Since the ground plane on HTs is inside the radio and connected to the antenna connector, I’m wondering if performance would improve if you disconnect the internal ground plane when using an external antenna. I dare you to try! :)
Hehehe... I think the ones who act as a ground in an HT is us while holding it in the hand. Indeed the PCB board of the HT is connected to the ground of the antenna, so you can't really "disconnect it" 😁. 73, YO6DXE
@ on second thought, yes you are probably correct to say that the human body probably does act as a counterpoise when holding the radio in hand. Likewise, the argument could be made (against my original objection) that even with the internal connection in place, if there is a parallel path for the RF that presents an impedance that better matches what the system needs, then there wouldn’t be RF will take that path almost exclusively (according to Ohm’s law dealing with parallel resistances). So my initial objection would thereby be expelled. (Sticking foot in mouth)
Adorable happy doggie ❤❤❤❤
I am back at the scouts camp. Earlier I had a bit of running around with the dog 😁😁. 73, YO6DXE
For the little one I'm measuring with NanoVNA H4 and getting no resonance, curve is flat everywhere. What am I doing wrong? Because all other antennas I've measured have resonance, even the fake short antenna resonates on 433 MHz.
I also have to build a proper rig to get better measurements as even the ones I do are not 100% accurate because when you put the antenna on the radio it will perform differently than the way it does when we measure it. The best way for me was to make sure all connections are well made... and always keep the antenna up away from objects ( never on the table )... and it seems that if you hold your hand on the ground part of the SMA connector then you are closer to how it would be when on the radio ( so I was told ).
Bonjour, avez vous réussi a régler le step? Si oui comment avez vous fait car je suis moi même bloquée.
Not really. I emailed Retevis and this is what I received back: Engineer response:“The step value cannot be changed in channel mode. After setting the step value, you need to adjust the frequency under VFO. Short press # to switch between VFO and channel mode”
73, YO6DXE
What measurements do you get with both of those inline?
I can't remember honestly but I will test when I get back home next week.
Yes, I have set everything very private. It a nice radio. You doing great buddy! 💪🏻
Thanks so much buddy. This winter i try to do a simple multiband analog CW transmitter 😁. 73, YO6DXE
It is good to see the newer hams home brewing and doing such good looking projects. 73 de WB8FEQ

So nicely working. I like the wooden case of it. I am going to try to make one. 73 from F1SOC
I replaced the wooden one with a plastic one when I made the newer version, but now I want to get back to it and make a wooden box with aluminum front and back. Fingers crossed it turns out nice 😄. 73, YO6DXE
Excellent. Always surprised how a single transistor in the HF regenerative part of a receiver can be so efficient. As a teenager, I built a regenerative receiver for the aviation band (and the dipole antenna for this band). Used it for hours to listen to CDG airport in France.
I think I also have a schematic for an air band and I want to try one. It is indeed impressive how much a single transistor can do 😄. 73, YO6DXE
That recording at the end of your video was sublime! I will now start to collect the parts required for a VLF receiver. I'm not worried what style of potentiometer to use... I am happy to solder three wires to a potentiometer if need be. ZL3GIL
I wanted to change it more for kids that may want to try it and make their life easier 😅😅😄😄. I am playing with it as we speak as I am up in the mountains and I love what I hear. 73, YO6DXE
Nice giveaway and a really cool project. Congratulations on your growing channel!

Salut, nu cred ca e nevoie de modificari la potentiometru ca un pic de "surubareala" din partea constructorului nu prinde rau. Cel mult cateva idei de abordare si atat. In rest felicitari si succes in tot ce faci.
Multumesc mult. 73, YO6DXE
It's good to see that young people like to experiment with old techniques. I built a regenerative circuit with a 6C4 triode back in 1956 when I was a 16 year old boy. Today I'm a grandfather but I'm still involved with electronic experiments, especially with modern devices like the one you used. Congratulations on your commitment and dedication...
Ohhhh old is gold to me. Is funny that when I started about radios it was all on tubes. But later when I started building stuff I used transistors because it was hard to find the transformers. This winter I plan on doing some tubes projects too. Maybe I can find some low voltage ones. Is nice you are still playing around with circuits. Once you love it as a kid is hard to get away from it 😁. 73, YO6DXE
Yes, I have followed the evolution since I was young. In 1973 I built a triple conversion valve transceiver using a Colins mechanical filter, 250KHz and only two bands, 15 and 20m. The valve has its problems, but it also has its benefits, less noise and better fidelity, I miss these qualities. I recently bought a G90 from China that is truly amazing. All electronics have evolved to a state that already requires specialization, but there is still a lot that can be done in the area of experimentation. 73s and health my friend, py1bys from Rio de Janeiro.

❤❤ ty for the videos I’m researching a lot of info for vlf receivers and so far this is one of the easiest to buildup
Its more like ELF but we are about there 😁😁. I have a proper VLF receiver coming as well but is not so simple like this one.
Regens are such simple circuits on the surface. All the interactions are complex however! One can study them for years. 🌞
I very much agree on this. It took me two years to properly understand the one I called Sputnik and to get it to work the way I wanted. And I am sure I still have lots to learn 😁. 73, YO6DXE
Your videos are great and I always look forward to them. 👍

How many micro Henry's is your induction coil?
I can't remember to be honest. I think the one in the video was around 80uH. Basically you can use anything between 55 to 110uH. The only thing that will be diferent is the length of the wire after the coil. The advantage of having for example a coil that is 55uH instead of 110uH is that you may have a bit more bandwidth on the 80m band. But the end wire will be a little longer too... somewhere around 3m if I remember. I have to rebuild mine as well so probably I will do another video on this one with proper measurements now that I have all the gear to do that. 73, YO6DXE
@dxexplorer 66pacific has a induction coil micro Henry calculator
@QSasquatch Yes... or sometimes I use an app called Coil32. But of course once built it doesn't always turns out to be the calculated inductance, so I prefer to measure it now. But calculating is good even if it doesn't turn out perfect, but if there is nothing to measure it with... at least we have an idea on how close we may be around that value.
@@dxexplorer All we can do is get close
Yes 😅😅

Greetings from Romania. 73, YO6DXE
VLF very interesting information
I am new to this as well. 😁 73, YO6DXE
Thanking you most kindly from English England
Always a pleasure. Greetings from Transylvania.
Better make antenna connector to receiver's top and switch, 3,5mm headphone plug, indicator led in bottom. I think - need use antenna connector with low capacitance ( antenna's capacitance is about 20pF and any extra capacitance to ground make capacitive voltage divider and reduce input signal ).
So far testing it works amazing with the connector I used. At the end is just a simple receiver I am not really looking into high performance out of it... it's all just for the fun of it 😁. I thought about the switch and the LED on the bottom but then if I want to place it standing when storing it in a locker or some place.. those will bother. So that is why I place all on top. Easier access to all also.
@@dxexplorer Thanks, sure! Have you considered an ELF receiver as your next project? An ELF receiver can be built similarly to a VLF receiver (FET gate resistor 100 - 1000 megohms). After the FET, there is a 30Hz low-pass filter and DC - 30Hz amplifier stages. The obtained signal 0 - 30Hz is recorded on the phone or computer. The recording should be listened to with 60x ... 100x playback speed. Inaudible frequencies become audible. For example 30Hz x 100 = 3000Hz and 1Hz turns to 100Hz.
@ingussilins6330 I keep thinking about it yes of course. I was searching for schematics the other day 😁😁
cool

Good Luck Everyone! May the Morse be with you 73 M0KoE

I worry a lot about modern pots... Have had a few burn out on me even at low voltages... So I wonder how well made are the smaller plastic pots that you are thinking of changing this to? BTW Been with you since your early days of the original sputnik receiver Ciprian and would highly recommend your channel to anyone interested in QRP and self build... de G0KPZ and that's genuine feedback and not just for competition purposes...
5k is huge
It is indeed as I never thought I would get here since all the videos I make are pretty much me sharing whatever I do hoping that some people may be doing the same projects as I do and we kind of share info with each other. So is a surprize to me too but a pleasant one 😁. 73, YO6DXE

It could possibly be the PIC Code needs some tweaking! Good luck in finding the guy who programed the PIC! Also, did you check the value of each component?
Ohhh no it was something else. I had to modify the oscillator circuit and turn it into an RF preamp... not it works like a charm.
@@dxexplorer - Glad to hear it !
