I tested that in the part two of the series.. a video or two back. It didn't perform as great as this time. Maybe the propagation was not the best also.
It looks lovely there. I am interested in the performance of the mini whip. Although I may have to go down the amplified small loop due to local noise.
its working great... i dont think original 2n5109 will change anything . whats more importent is that you are in a very good place😄 location is amazing very beautiful😍. ham radio and place like that is very refreshing
The location for me is more like heaven on earth. Sadly I must return home at the end of this week after three weeks spent here. But... I will return 😅😅😅
Seems to be working, be nice for the next video to do a comparison with the endfed on a coax switch to see how the signals compares to each other. Believe the first CW station was I8GMG calling CQ DX. Well done and great job! 73 Jason
I didn't had the chance to film as we were rushing to the city so I can edit and upload the video but I listened on the EFHW as well for a bit and the Mini Whip was nearly equal. I was not expecting that 😁😁😅😅. 73 and have a fantastic week Jason.
Indeed. I switched to the EFHW really quick after I stopped filming and it was nearly equal. I did not expect that at all considering that I am surrounded by mountains.
Great video, I'd move to see more, even a full QSO at some point. I use an ungrounded dipole on 10 M and and ungrounded EFHW on 20M in my balcony and I hear plenty of signals so it can work. I hope you were joking about the weather impacting HF receive though :) Looking forward to the next video. I'll be in Brasov at the end of Oct. visiting my aunt.
When we finish the radio room here, I have a feeling you will see a lot of QSO's from here 😁. About the rain and the conditions on propagation... ohhh no I was not joking at all. I think is because in here is like I am in a pot all shrouded by mountains or something, because when it rains even the phone signal is extremely bad. One network dissapears completely. The EFHW barely receives something as well. Not sure why but it is what it is. Maybe the radio waves are scared of the bears we have around here haha. I will be back in Brasov at the end of this week and stay home for a while so maybe we get to meet. We keep in touch. Have a fantastic rest of the week. I get back to work here so we finish the roof before I leave. 73, YO6DXE
Hi DX Explorer -thanks for your Video - if possible try to get a very good GND direct at the Feedpoint of the Antenne and the Signals will blow you away....- The Key of good operating is enough height, out of any QRM done by TV, PC, LED Lamps etc. and a very good GND maybe with not less than 4mm2 of Wire direct to a good Earth at the Bottom of the Mast! - Dont ground the Coax on the Way to your house a second Time! . Heard many rare DX Stations with my Mini Whip on a 10 Meters tall PVC Mast connected to GND Wire, vy 55, 73 Heinz DE0RST
Ohhhh thank you so much. I very much appreciate the advice. I will do it this way on the final instalation once we finish building the radio room. I will still have to hide it in the attic, but with a good ground I have a feeling it will work way better than now. Even though I am happy even the way it works now. I was not expecting it to work so well. Luckily here on top of the mountains there is not much interference from anything as besides the lights and the phone chargers there is nothing else here. 73, YO6DXE
Hi friend, yes this could improve receipton very much. If you want to compare sigs you can listen to WEB SDR Station operating with Mini Whip. If you listen to the WEB SDR Radio from University in Twente (Netherlands). (Google) They are operating with Mini Whip as you surely know? Another way to get more gain of the Transistor could be to connect two of them in Parallel. That should increase the Signal Strength also.... vy 55, Heinz, DE0RST
@heinzriedl6868 Ohhhhh the trick with the tranzistor i didn't know. Is it the JFET or the NPN ? I guess the JFET since the NPN is there just to lower the impedance. And yes if course I know about the SDR in Holland. Is the one I use for most of my tests as reference 😁😁.
Its the JFET which could be parallel connected. If you have no success with that please send me a note and I will send you J310 for experiments 😀 @@dxexplorer
@heinzriedl6868 Thank you so much. Ohh I will order the transistors when I get home. I found a store that has them in stock still. I really appreciate the help. Time to experiment a little more when I get home hahaha. 73, YO6DXE. Bed time here as in the morning, back on roofing work to finish here 😅😅😅
Thanks so much. Amazing place indeed in here. I found a website that sells both transistors before I left home, so I will order a few once I get home. 73 buddy.
I am also curious. On the JFET I think it won't be such a difference as J310 can be replaced easily with other similar ones, but the NPN I have a feeling it will perform better because the antenna should resonate better on lower frequencies as well. We will see )))
I hear them all the time especially on the 40m band. Maybe some of them but there are many still on air. I am also exited to get home and build the final version with the PCB boards I just received 😁😁. 73, YO6DXE
If you understand propagation and the fact that technically with the conditions I had I expected to hear nothing... indeed it was interesting results to me. The hiss was mostly on the 40m band... on 20m it was full of signals.
It's tiny and the performance is... Amazing! I really like the build, very compact with the bias T. Beautiful scenery too! 73 DE SV2TCB
I can't wait to get home as the package with the PCB boards arrived so I can build the final version.
Good result, nice compact board and good performance many congrats
I am building now the final version on a proper PCB board. I will post the video not this weekend, the one after. 73, YO6DXE
I would love to see the performance on your Camper van roof
I tested that in the part two of the series.. a video or two back. It didn't perform as great as this time. Maybe the propagation was not the best also.
Nice performance in a compact size
Perfect for this place as we must hide it in the attic to keep the place same as it was but still have a bit of radio fun 😅😅😅.
It looks lovely there.

I really have to try building a loop as well. I never tried one.

@4L1LAT only me and the bear here 😅😅😅

Are you staying there till JOTAJOTI?
I go home this Friday. I come back but not sure when. Maybe the end of the month.
Sounds good. Nice place though. 👍🏻
Have fun!
Also I might have a j310 I’ll look for it.

Ukrainian operators are off the air due to the war.
Thanks for the Mini Whip demo - I have one in a box but still haven't powered it up.
