Hello, I'm David Kile from Central Pa. I've had a love of the outdoors that started out as fishing farm ponds and catching crayfish for pets in neighborhood creeks. Now as an adult I fuel that same love of the outdoors in hunting, fishing, and anything outdoors. When I'm not actually in the outdoors I'm cooking wild game or doing DIY project to use for my next adventure in the outdoors.

Have you tried cleaning a pistol on it? Also is it ok for working on an AR?
So you have to have the hazemore seat for this to work?
You left silver skin on it lmao
I bought this and I love it and wow does it work.
Awesome, definitely doing it this year!
You definitely should. Tallow is very useful.
How do you like your scope?
Love the scope it is the model set up for the 450 bushmaster.
2:55 this is a dumb question, but on the hose connecting to the propane tank there’s like a metal pin. Are we supposed to take that off or keep it on? It’s thin like a paper clip. This is my first gas range and first time using propane tanks. I’m not sure if we’re supposed to take that off or keep it on
Thank you for the watch and I appreciate the question. I just leave mine on it’s not problem.
@@LemonRiverOutdoors thank you for letting me know and for the reassurance.
No problem
Oh brother. Leupold and Warne both recommend against using loctite on their scope rings and mounts. I'm a dealer for both and would highly suggest not using loctite on scope mounts but instead torque to proper in/lbs and check them after you break the rifle in (ie. After 20-40 rounds) after that you should be good for the life of the rifle. The rings are designed to be pushing against the thread of the screw and there shouldn't be any need for loctite. Not only that torque specs are the most important thing when it comes to scope mounting, so 20% can be the difference between a 12" group at 100 and a 1 MOA group at 100...don't believe me call Leupold and ask.
Thank you and I appreciate your comment. This is what works for me and has worked for me and I’ve never had trouble with accuracy. But a question have you ever had your torque wrench calibrated or even checked for tolerance. But if 20% difference in torque can cause 12” MOA I’d think you would have it calibrated yearly if what you say is true.
@@LemonRiverOutdoors I check and calibrate it every month because I'm doing between 15-50 scope mountings a month. Never had a client complain about having rings come loose, Leupold and Weaver both tell you to not use loctite on scope rings. Just get yourself a quality torque screwdriver and ditch the loctite. Trust me you'll be seeing an improvement on groups once you use proper torque specs on stuff.
Loved your video and presentation . Aplomb with information and very well executed . Well done sir .
Thank you for watching!
Dont loctite the ring screws tiny bit for base mount.
Learned this from a professional and I’ve been doing this set up for years have never had a problem. But you do you.
@@LemonRiverOutdoors loctite as mentioned below can cause your torque wrench to mis read the torque value, resulting im stripped ring screws and or broken rings, I will def keep doing me thanks!
Well I’ve never had that problem and I’ll keep doing it. If you have had that problem I’d suggest investing in better rings.
@@LemonRiverOutdoors I think you're missing the point... have a good night.
Loctite can change the torque value by about 20%. Depending on the ring manufacturer they may recommend a 28lbs of torque on the rings. That 5-6lbs of torque difference. I can deal with that % I may be off on torque for the insurance it will not come loose while out on a hunt. Also if you are that concerned with 20% different on torque value at that low end of lbs of torque please make sure you torque wrench is calibrated and certified each year.
You think this rod can handle Black Sea bass or Togs
Personal I don’t think so.
Could you use this to install a muzzle device?
It might be able to. As long as you are not putting a ton of pressure on it.
There is no skinning to it when it's done right
Good for you bro!
No fishy, no watchy. lol
Yea but you need to watch to if there is any fishing
I just received mine in the mail today; pretty decent. The only immediate complaint I have is that the middle support is hard to adjust from the horizontal position to the vertical position because of the length of the screw. There are barely any threads sticking up through the support for the knob to catch on. I was able to wedge a piece of wood slightly under the screw to lift it up so that the threads could catch the knob and be screwed down. Other than that, at least thus far, I haven't seen anything else worthy of complaint. I only paid a tad over $70 for mine, so for the price paid, it looks to be a good value. Nice video by the way!
That’s great glad you are enjoying it. Yes that screw can be a bugger to mess with. Like you said for the price point it is a great value.
Great review. I picked up the variety pack. Great action even when fished slow.
Thank you, it does have great action no matter what speed. Also, that variety pack is the way to go!
Zero seasoning imagine if he put garlic some type of salt it def would taste better.
Louisiana fish fry has plenty of seasoning in it. It actually has dried garlic and paprika in it.
The only part of the fish that doesn't taste like fish
Definitely doesn’t taste like fish and it so good!
How long does it need to sit in the oil?
Not very long just till they are golden brown.
No problem here. Was born and raised in South Louisiana. We Cajuns are hard to break.
Right on!
Great video. My high school buddies and i are planning a trip in 10 days. We are from Ohio and doing a 3 day, 2 night kayak trip. Was looking at doing Karthaus to Renovo, but after reading comments, maybe your trip is a better idea. About how many hours of paddling do you think you had total on this trip?
Thank you and appreciate you watching. Hours paddling is really all depends on how fast the water is flowing. I’ve seen plenty of people float there Karthaus to Renovo route too.
Attractive af
Thank you
One of the best things you can do for a new battery is to put it on the charger and top it off before putting it into service.
Yes sir, I keep all my batteries trickle chargers from a.co/d/5ZKWfvI
Gas block kept coming loose , used this and never had an issue ! Thanks !
That’s perfect!
What month of the of the year was this? Do you know what the water levels at Karthaus and Renovo were during the trip? Thanks!
This was in last weekend in May before the holiday. I think it was 1.7 ft on this trip. I’m not sure if I would want to run it any lower. We have also run this trip as high as 6ft and that is a touch too high for us.
@@LemonRiverOutdoors Awesome thanks for the info! Also, have you done any fishing along this stretch? If so, how was it?
@@ericoberholzer5430 honestly we have never really fish that stretch of river. I have a fishing rod with me but barely fish on that trip. We see people fishing it as they float all the time. If you want a good trip to paddle and fish I’d suggest the Juniata river.
Could you replace the oil with more deer tallow?
You could experiment. You just need to keep the lye solution to fat solution the same.
Wth is a deer tallow
Rendered down fat from a deer.
It isn't a man cave item. Can it be used to sight in a scope? Or just for servicing a long gun?
You could definitely use it to bore sight a rifle or use it as a rest at gun range. But I’d rather use a lead sled for those task.
Candle wax also works good too
Yes it does
or u could buy a water jug from the gas station and fillit w gas and start a fire in .3 seconds for a hefty $5
You sure could.
I can't help but laugh at how difficult y'all make something as simple as starting a fire. Btw, I'd rather not grill a ribeye over slow-burning dryer pubes.
Not difficult at all to make.
Deer tallow is time consuming to make and expensive to buy. I used some petroleum jelly I found under the bed.
I make deer tallow for many projects so it’s not a burden at all.
would bacon grease work, instead of the deer tallow?
Bacon grease can work too. Also wax and crisco work too
Just get a brick of paraffin wax melt it and do the same thing
Definitely but this is just a way to use up parts of the deer that I’d throw out.
My wife absolutely hates the fact that she keeps finding those like tide pod boxes and bags randomly throughout the whole garage and my 3000 square-foot shop stuffed with dryer, lint and candles. She doesn’t understand my obsession with candles. She figured out what I was doing always I was making these starters I probably have like 200 of them every used scented candle I can find in the house Every piece of dryer lint every egg carton just the full synthetic or not synthetic recycled old school ones like you just used. Think I’m hoarding I’m some kind of lunatic when the zombies come down and show us what it’s all really about. I’ll be laughing my ass off lighting fires everywhere.
Right on!
WHAT A WASTE! Use that deer talow to make the BEST puff pastry. Use Vaseline instead for fire starter.
To us it’s not a waste at all. We also make soap, bird feed cakes and candles out of deer tallow.
I feel like this is inviting bears
The rendered fat really has no smell so I haven’t found this to happen.
@@LemonRiverOutdoors your point is moot you said really has no smell so if that's true it still stinks and it sure as heck will smell good to a bear.
@@dieselfrk13 a bear is going to smell you no matter so…
@@LemonRiverOutdoors I know I know keyboard warrior here. I'm not worried about the bear smelling me.
@@dieselfrk13 it’s a very good discussion. From experience I have used them in black bear areas in PA and had no interaction with bears.
Good review. Can the vise be adjusted to level a rifle/scope ?
Yes it can.
Cool. I just use a couple flaming hot cheetos
Those work great also!
Well you can't REALLY start any type of fire, can you? Surely not a Class D fire.
I don’t think this would start a class D fire. But a good BBQ pit or camp fire .
That seems like a waste of one of the best cooking-oils on the earth!! Better to use some poisonous seed oil for this.
We don’t care for the taste when cooking with deer tallow. But we still save the deer fat and render it down into usable tallow for projects like soap, candles, bird feed cakes and fire starters to name a few. We stick to beef and pork tallow for cooking.
Dryer lint and wd40 lights instantly, and stays lit for some time
Another great recipe
Or..you can just use your lighter...
Lighter is just the ignition source. Try to use a light to start char coal 😉 or some damp wood.
Waste of good grease. Id use paraffin or beeswax instead
Deer tallow doesn’t taste good. But yes you can substitute the tallow with paraffin or beeswax.
If you live in fly over country it's more common than you think to have a few jars 😮 . If it's made right it will catch a spark. I make something similar to start out fireplace or wood stove. If the wood is damp, or just fast and easy. But I wouldn't us my deer tallow. It has better uses.
We use deer tallow for a lot things around the house. And yes this is an excellent starter for damp wood.
Who just has deer tallow whatever that is just Jared up and laying around?
We render the fat from all the deer we harvest each year into tallow. It doesn’t taste good like bear, hog of beef tallow but is great for a bunch of different projects around the house.
I do
That’s um… that’s not a fire starter. That’s an accelerant. The fire starter shown in this video was a lighter.
Either way it definitely gets a good fire going.
@@LemonRiverOutdoors it definitely does. Good way to use more from a deer too.
@@Beard120 that’s my main reason for making them. I try to use up as much of the deer as I can with out getting to extreme.
You should try rubbing 2 pieces of wood together. That's how mountain men do it. That's how I do it.
Definitely could if needed.
Will they catch a spark from flint?
I’ll send you one to test it out.
Just curious if there is a guide to where the campsites are along the west branch? I was hoping to do a 2-3 day overnight canoe trip and found the Susquehanna Greenway West Branch maps, but I don't see campsites pinpointed on them.
To my knowledge there is no guide with campsites labeled on them. There are plenty of campsites threw out this stretch of river. We have been doing this trip for almost 10 years and discover a new site each year. You will see paths up the river bank to a nice site all over the place. It is a great trip enjoy your time on the water.
@@LemonRiverOutdoors Thanks! Have you ever gone from Shawville to Renovo? Just curious if the section from Keating to Renovo is worth the extra mileage.
We have not got all the way to Renovo. I’m not 100% sure on what that section of river is like. But the last few miles into Keating the river really slows down and if you have a head wind it can be a ruff paddle.
Thanks for the video!
